I watched like 4 mins of full 3 rounds on dm6 of toxic doing a quick win vs cooler, and it was over. This is so bad to spectate. I tried to watch sacrifice, I dare to say this will be never watchable. The empty seats at the arena are surely justified.

Sacrifice is watchable, and enjoyable actually. Duel is okay too even though I prefer the old format, there are still some tense moments and good action.

At ESWC Paris, the seats were full when there was a Quake match on the main stage, that was around 1500 people watching. Of course, they were mostly there because of the things that would come after Quake (like the demo of COD - WWII) but they stayed through all the matches and were actually cheering and so on. So, the empty seats doesn't mean much if we don't know where the Quake stage is in DH, how advertised the game is, etc.

Well it's my opinion that it's enjoyable to play, full of action, and the spectating could indeed be better but it's not as horrible as people often say so. Also, i'm generally the negative guy around, I hate everything. It's just that people beat me here.

Sacrifice is actually funny. I used not to give it any chance after having seen it on stage, but if you play it you'll have fun.

Surely it's 10 times better than playing DM and TDM.

In that case I'm with you. I found only a match (DreamHack Denver finals?) to be really enjoyable to watch.

Turned off Sacrifice of course, I think the spectating itself can be salvaged but I can't understand why nothing has been done since August. Everything is exactly the same:

1. Constant death cam!

2. 10 FPS during fights...

3. Impossible to tell who you're spectating (or which team they're on). After a while you notice there are two indicators (team on top lights up a bit and name/color in bottom left changes) but you need to go away from the action and make an effort to parse that.

4. No switch to quad/soul carrier, all the time you feel separated from the action, watching someone camping for armor, then suddenly it turns out the soul is now in a different place.

5. Visual effects overload (to the point when you don't see the actual game, only the effects), that's not a problem with just Sacrifice, but obviously is greatly amplified compared to duel, where there's much much less "action" to be followed in the first place.

The mode itself is shit by design (inifity of respawn time, maps with unbalanced sides, super spammy nature of having to sit on the point for a while) but spectating itself can be fixed no problem. But it's the post-Zenimax id Software.


Don't be discouraged by the empty seats because it was Friday and us Quakers have jobs, things should be better tomorrow in the final rounds. And maybe it's better that not many people witness how shit the game is at this moment (two Anarkis meet at full speed, whole fight is one hitting a flick rocket and another missing by a millimeter, who thinks this game has results based on skill?)

I mean sacrifice is a good mode, but it needs to revamp spectating, its not like duel when its more about those piksel shots and flick shots, sacrifice should have more free float/3rd person, better room cams (sarnath -eye room directly above camera is aweful, no sense of perspective/depth there); becaus its about team play, so you are focusing on the gameplay as in:
- are players grouping for an attack
- are they picking/timing heavy items,
- even soul runs so you see where is carrier in relation of the enemys/carrierr defenders
- and quad runs and are enemys hiding or chasing quad and so on...
- but yes first view is still important

Maybe sacrifice needs more free float action and a dedicated person who knows what he is doing:

1. freefloat
2. first person view / quad run / soul run
3. room cams
4. layerd map smart control

something in the way of starcraft where they have a dedicated person to folow players as in you can click on a map.

so we would need somekind of a layered/semi-transparent map, which would need control to manipulate it: zoom in, zoom out, with smart rotation contorol, click on map switch camera ...

stuff like that.

i think k1llsen made a crucial mistake when he abandoned the pretty effective strategy with long distance machinegun vs clutch.

a few words

- chat predictions are a fun feature

-chat playing q1 was fun as hell and a perfect way to abridge the waiting times. Id suggest a better level that is challenging but not infeasible

-waiting times of 8-9 minutes are role model quality, looking at you 20min qcon followed by talk followed by 10min more

-Welcome to QC Cypher and Rapha, Im glad you finally made it into the game

-Makavelli more like Clappavelli

-Noctis, how I want to cheer for the superb player with pretty eye lashes but how can you if he just kills himself every time the game gets tough

-a purple default QC railgun and poisonous green RL, no wonder cooller lost

-the superzoom on player flags on main stage especially on left monitor is excusable the first time but keeping it for the whole tourney?

-Gelane use shast a lot

-production also got the brackets wrong after spart1e astro game + no results on BYOC until after the tournament while wiki.liquid had the results in real time

-now something serious, the first 10+ seconds of the game are always missing due to replays. Some casters mention bad spawns good spawns and what they mean. Id like to actually see the spawn situation. Worse, sometimes you miss the first fights of the game. Im not against replays but put them where they make sense

-I also think that the duel matches are too long. We only get to see very few matches while some of them last very long. We saw about 1 match by every player which isnt ideal.

-Big respect to Spart1e who worked his ass off to get out of BYOC and reached a good result

-my tears and sympathy to K1llsen who has every reason to walk out with his head high. Best matchup of the whole tournament probably

-ketchup...always ketchup. Let me put it short and crisp: what he contributes to play by play casting can be replaced by any reasonably experienced caster. What he contributes to in-depth analysis is drastically reducing the quality and credibility of the casting team. If you want to know what I mean watch Dahang vs K1llsen and see the contrast to ZSX.

-Speaking of that, ZSX was the casting star of this tournament imo. His analysis was superb, far exceeding the limited scope of ket.. He explained complex and fast processes in real time while making them understandable to an amateur audience. I appreciated plays more because ZSX exposed deeper layers.

-Zoot Jehar and DDK souvereign as usual although lacking a bit of the randomness and kapow we like them for. You could say they were too professional.

-with all the fancy production with studios and a ton of casters etc I wonder if they forgot what made lowbudget QL events great: Where are player interviews? Where are pro players shoutcasting a match or two for fun? I suspect its because of the length of games now that dont allow for anything but a tight schedule and ...perhaps too many casters?



I nod my head to a relatively clean event with some great matchups and good entertainment value.

The k1llsen - DaHang matchup was absolutely amazing and really showcases the potential of QC as an esport. I love the dynamic that champions bring to Quake. It was nice to see DaHang with his Clutch annihilate Vo0, then see k1llsen having the answer with his Nyx. Absolute nail-biter and couldn't been more closer. The way they adjusted their gameplay from round to round to counter each other, then it's a 1-1 tie, 2-2 rounds, and sudden death to decide all... and the last frag is fucking mutual? If that was a movie, I would have called that screenplay unbelievable.

That being said, this game needs a ton of work. I hate the fact that we see the same 4 champions over and over, and every once in a while, someone pulls out a Clutch. Champions need to be a lot more balanced, so that we could literally see any of them picked. Would make things lot more interesting.

Actually, it was almost half a second, DaHang had time to also hit a dead-on rail on the dead body after that nail hit, before receiving the last rocket. It was a lost fight, k1llsen must have miscalculated the stacks/chances of falling to nails. Real pity, I cheered for him too.

I think it shouldn't be istant or it should need not just one click to destroy a weak character.
