The approach of having different movement systems is interesting, hopefully it will appeal to more people because of that and be easier to get into.

I like how the "newbie movement" is more advanced than standard movement in the new UT :). It looks good to me, easy to learn but still fun to play around with.
Movement is the biggest turnoff in the new UT, feels slow and lacking in options imo. Hopefully there will be mutators to spice up the movement in that game since the devs seem intent on keeping the current limited movement.

so why wouldn't the movement system with high air control and strafe jumping just dominate? You lose out a bit in mobility (compared to dash style movement) in engagements but not so much that it takes away from your ability to traverse a map and control.

Maybe he intends to balance them a little further in things other than the movement. So high mobility classes have less health or something.

I dont think the other classes will have sprint. It sounds like thats just for the "noob" class and the other 2 classes have strafe jumping. Maybe not though, I'm a little confused I think

I like the idea of him implementing an easy class. That being said it certainly doesnt look like a class I would ever enjoy playing based soley on the movement, but the twitch chat seemed to like it so I hope newer players will flock to it

When new players start quake they are faced with learning how to strafe jump which puts lots of people off. A "noob" class will give new players something to use and have fun with and then after theyve played reborn for a month or so and are really enjoying it they will naturally progress to learning how to use the strafejumping classes

I just think he needs to give each class a purpose. So the noob class needs to be useful (maybe as a sort of defender class or something) so that it serves a good gameplay purpose other than simply being a set of training wheels for new players

Even in high level play all the classes should be viable

And then if he pulls that off he will need to make all the classes be fun enough to use that hardcore quakers will sometimes have an incentive to use the noob class (eg. if a ctf team needs a defender) and enjoy it

Is it really easier for new players to use double tap for dodge than using a dash key like in warsow though? They added a dash key to the new UT as a complement to double tap and I get the impression that it's easier for new players to dash.
I remember first learning to move with double tap dodge took a while to get comfortable with, not as long as strafejumping though.

Is spamming dodge supposed to be the fastest way to move around with "newb movement" when not using sprint, like you move in UT? Or is running faster and dodge just for combat movement (and dodging off walls?).

So he said the main gamemode will be 2v2, but this means the wingman mode and not the typical 2v2 mode.

On the plus side I love 2v2 so I'm really happy about this, but I am very interested to hear more about how the wingman stuff works.

When he first talked about it, it sounded like the wingman would be like a sidekick, like the little flying thing in zelda or like crash bandicoots little floating mask, which I dont like the sound of, purely because it would be shit for the person playing as the wingman

I like the idea of both players being equally as important or significant, but both with different uses. So neither is the "wingman" but instead they are a team of gangster motherfucking robots who blow up their enemies and burn their robot villages together.

Some robot ability ideas:

- one robot is faster and squishier
- one robot is slower and tankier

The slow robot:

- see indicators of when items respawn (have to communicate to teammate)
- drop 3 block high and 2 block wide walls to block corridors or incoming attacks
- hit enemies with trackers to give him (and only him) wallhack vision of the one he hits for 10s
- have a powerful defensive melee attack

The fast robot:

- have air control
- have double jump
- have a higher rate of fire

So the slow robots purpose is as a defender and to provide intel to the faster player who is suppsed to deal damage, chase and steal items

This way both classes are fun to play but have very different gameplay focuses and things that promote teamplay

All I want is Q3 movement with a better way to go round corners, as close to perfect as you're going to get IMO.

I think eggbot is a pretty happy accident. That should be the default/only model:

A: Hitbox. It fills it out almost completely.

B: Your artist already noted that all that space leaves a very wide space for players to differentiate their model with colors and 'face' etchings or graphics, and it having a very pronounced effect.

C: It makes it very simple for someone to create their very own graphic unique to them and set it as the custom face texture.

D: It's simplicity is iconic. I know you and your artist are very proud of the initial bot concept. It's very good. But just glancing at it, it doesn't have an immediately identifiable attribute that stands out. Someone glances at Reborn, they immediately know it's Reborn with the eggbot model.

I know eggbot might be a problem in consideration of some of the skeletal damage you have kinda mentioned if 90 percent of the model is the 'egg'. It might also be the antithesis to your 'core' concept where you can visibly look at a model's core and understand what it is.

Again, what I would say, is sometimes great ideas are born out of fortuitous accidents and simply goofing around. Sometimes something that seems like a really good concept, is infact very unweildy. With how fast characters will be moving, and how complex the original bot concept is...you really think people will be able to get any visual feedback from trying to discern which core takes up 10 percent of the model they glimpsed?

Go all in on eggbot.

I would love to see Ooze animation demoreel. I would hate to see clunky and bad animation in this game, I'm kinda sensitive when it comes to animation in games but i know most you doesn't care.
The animation in Q3 works but i wonder what the effect would be if the animation was as fluid and nice as the movement is, I think it would look awesome.
