Like matchmaking and social features? I dont reckon we will see that with Warxon.

Project Nex, Reflex, UT4 and Reborn intend to have matchmaking and Nex is looking at loads of extra social stuff like built in irc and social servers where you can organise games (all under discussion, nothing has been confirmed yet I dont think).

No idea about the others but yeah. Shit like that + good gameplay would be awesome

the weapon models and sounds are literally ripped straight from xonotic, the overall look from warsow (plus it has a gunblade too, lol).

Reminds me of how q2world just had wsw sounds back when it was first being dev'd. I'm sure its just a temporary thing while they work on original ones but its funny to see.

btw. I think the best business model for these games is like this:

also World of Tanks, LoL etc. H&G seems to be a game which is just good, and nothing more. But it got daily about 10k players I think.

I prefer something like b2p, but I think its not possible for these games. Prefer stupid f2p instead of dead game.
There is a game called Insurgency 2 with b2p model and population is very low.

or look game called Unturned, looks like shi bot it got 50k people daily.

Something like dota or csgo would be great, but is it possible?

After making console focused games for so long I can't describe how nice it feels to get back into a keyboard and mouse state of mind. The possibilities for aiming and movement are boiling out of my head, imagine what happens when someone plays with mobility in a PC FPS when they're inspired by 16 bit platformers, strafe jumping, and Tribes Skiiing, not to mention the possibilities with weapons!

Just played it a bit with a friend. The beast/weapon system is kind of cool. It's at least fun to mess around with for a bit. the guns are all q3 guns except for the cloaking one, and the one map they have right now is heavily inspired by ztn.

just wanna say that this game is actually ridiculously fun to play, albeit very strange and confusing. from some things that I've seen the devs post on their forums it looks like they're being smart about the balancing (Every spawn is next to at least 3 weapons, so you shouldn't have an issue getting weapons and I guess if you do that's your own dumb fault for not learning how to route).

i think this has potential, srsly

That's a shame, surely you can just disable your antivirus when you go to play it, right?

My friend is also having a similar issue too where he loads up the game and he gets some error along the lines of "%1 is not Win32 app" or something like that. He is a risky guy and doesn't use an antivirus so I'm not sure what his issue is either.

Also currently I am 17:2. I played 7 matches in the past hour and they were just too easy. People currently playing right now need to step their game UP! The last game I played was the longest because the guy kept on +backing because I had all the weapons after taking them off of him (I got the 3 closest weapons on spawn and kept pushing him and taking out his weapons one by one, he always managed to escape with low hp and the two 25 healths beneath 25 armor were always taken by him). I think people need to realize that the only way to get weapons to fight with is to risk it and slowly apply damage with that crossbow and steal the gold and steel armor as well as taking the emperor potion. The crossbow is really fucking lethal, at the start of games you could just ignore weapons and kill somebody with it within the first minute.

I'm not in this type of quasi-magical-medieval game design but this actually looks absolutely hilarious, especially the furry werewolf throwing some kind of magic bolts. I really like this one, though it probably will be another fail project.

Thats on older episode by the way. This is the latest one:

Pretty handy for keeping up to date with UT4 if you dont care enough to follow the forums and stuff.

It is looking fairly similar to UT3 and UT99. Lots of people keep coming up with really cool movement mechanics but epic sort of just ignored them and stuck to the same thing they have always done, depsite it being horrible.

The combat isnt looking great either. Especially in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqJYG1QfV_c&a...mp;index=2 - everyone is just missing each other constantly and fights go on for like 5 seconds before someone actually hits their opponent for the first time. I dont think its because they are bad players.

Apart from that it looks ok though. Lots of weapon movement which is nice.

The game is playable, I think you have to go on the irc and ask for a build or something.

By best progress do you mean furthest in development?

Because chroma, Doom 4, Reflex, Rekt, Tesseract, Toxikk and Wickland are all further ahead than it and a bunch of other games are at a very similar point.

I do think it stands a huge chance of being successful though. Its not one of the ones I want to be successful the most but I'll take what I can get.

Its not supposed to be an insult being on that list, its just designed to give people a better idea about the games development scale (as best as I can deduce being on the outside)

I personally think the indie list looks better than the "AAA" list and am more excited for the games on there

Personally I really like the look of Project Nex. I'm not a huge cpm guy but I'm having tons of fun on the Reflex pre-alpha too so I hope the great gameplay carries that game despite their lack of name recognition or brand.

I think UT4, Reborn, Doom 4 and BlueStreak stand the best chance though. Name recognition and marketing gives them a huge advantage.

Telos is in Unity as well. Also legions overdrive. I'm not too sure about game engines but surely if the devs are good enough the game can be good.

I'm not sure we will get what we want out of Doom 4 but I think it stands a good chance of being a success. I'm worried it will be full of scripted animations in multiplayer.

Bluestreak, again, yeah we know nothing and dont know if it will be good, but it stands a good chance due to its exposure. If he makes a good or even reasonable game by most peoples standards it can be a success with how many people know about it

Reborn, I think 2GD gives lots of fucks. He seems determined to finish it and hes made progress. Slow progress but I like what I've seen so far.

Also penguin arena shooter = dream come true

if some indie project will be succesfull, imo there is no place for the others.

imo get the project to kickstarter/greenlight could be crucial.

imo 2GD has no time for it.

actually thats kind of an indicator that he does care. he has done so little in so much time because he had lots of working versions that he scrapped completely to start over.

that shows that he isnt lazy and is aiming to create the best possible game regardless of how much extra work that makes for him

scrapping months of hard work and starting from scratch is something you would only do if you really cared about the quality of the game

One could argue the clan arena modes in QL, Xon and Wsw are not arena shooters as well. This kind of looks like it could play like clan arena with various formats of team modes, but yeah it's a very opinion conflicting subject.

Looking at the spread of a weapon's firing pattern to see how random it should be versus tightly coiled and contained, how much movement should change that, and how much iron sights tightens things up. Yes, we're planning on having a *few* guns with iron sights via M2, the other weapons are planned to have alternate fires and other supplemental uses. Arena shooter purists sometimes shrug off iron sights and reloading as Call of Duty features, but as I like to say, everything in moderation. Some additions to the FPS genre are welcome and are here to stay. Reloading and some aiming can add a light layer of depth to the cadence of combat.

To ease new players into this competitive mindset, we are experimenting ideas where players need to feel that they are part of a team, a clan, or a club that is similar to a Kendo club, where the members involved belong under the same dojo, under the same “sensei”. When it comes to competing, the dojo will organize line-ups such that the students who fight each other are somewhat equal in skill, and overall, as a team, tries to win the competition as each member tries their best to score in their own individual 1 on 1 matches.

This “common” goal, or team-oriented achievement can make the game a much more social experience that can help bring in new players to enjoy 1 on 1 game type that they may otherwise not. This is a very interesting dynamic that isn’t incorporated in competitive FPS games, and it is much more interesting for our small team to explore than to simply add game modes from existing games. There are many things we can learn from traditional 1 on 1 sports, and the worst thing to do for our game is to look at the other FPS games out there, and become a copy cat by simply cloning modes that have been done to death before. At the end of the day, why would anyone play our team deathmatch or FFA modes when there are already games out there that do just that?

I'd say its a hell of a lot closer.

Vertical movement, rocket jumps, fast paced, map pickups, weapons with a clearly defined purpose (eg. not just 6 different machine guns, shotguns and pistols). But the fact that its class based makes a big difference.

It still has classes, loadouts and only lets you carry 2 guns at a time while only being fast when playing one of the 9 classes. It has some really arena fps elements and lots of stuff that is the opposite.

If it was a new game coming out it would get an honourable mention but probably not be in the list. Just like things like Project Z which is an upcoming tribes style game. Very close, but not quite

What if you add those honorable mentions anyway, just to have everything without discussions.

As you said, TF2 wouldn't have been on the list, even though it ended up being the most important PC "non realistic" fps of the past 15 years. Also it wouldn't have included urban terror (imagine all the crying lol).

About dirtybomb in particular, from videos it seems to be right in the middle. When it's released we'll see if it deserves to still be on the honorable mentions or not, or move upwards.

I also think he said classes wont meet each other in duel. Light v light, mid v mid and heavy v heavy seems to be his thinking.

Also the classes wouldnt be like tf2 where you can only carry 2 guns and 8 of the 9 classes are slow. All the reborn classes would be fast and you would have access to every weapon like regular quake

Adding classes doesnt instantly make it not an arena shooter for me, it depends how its done

here is his quote on how it should work:

The first shot is instant and does some damage, but after a short delay a second shot happens along the same trajectory as the first and does more damage (the inspiration was lightning/thunder).

The idea is that it's less effective on moving targets (harder to land both shots), gives the victim a bit of time to react, and introduces an interesting mechanic of optionally leading the target to hit them with the more damaging part of the shot (which is more risky than simply pointing directly at them and hitting them with the weaker shot).

just bought it for 3 EUR, early access.

It's not FPS but TPS but its quite interesting and imo some arena shooters could borrow some ideas for 'casuals', this craft weapon thingy is kinda cool, also these gamemodes vs AI in coop are quite fun and even challenging. Also how weapons are changing during combat is cool.

also a game got many different weapons, armors etc.

'Are you a fan of old-school twitch shooters like Unreal Tournament and Tribes? What about team focused MOBAs like DotA and League of Legends? Would you like to play a game that combines elements of both genres while adding crafting, customization, giant robots and a bold new art style to the mix? '

yea, and I like how the game is looking even that for today standards its ugly.

But hard to say that it is an arena shooter :P

"There are a lot of poor, bad reviews out there from people who didn't put very much time into the game to actually try it out, so i wanted to make this review for those who don't want to miss out on a great game for it's price now and a potentially even better game down the road.

I played this game for 7 hours yesterday 9/12/2014 after purchasing it for 5 dollars.
I have 20 years of gaming experience, playing from the OG Hexxen and Doom up to the new Unreals and Far crys and everything in between. So take some of my comments on tactics or ways to play, coming from bringing old game knowledge into a new game with old gameplay style.

TL:DR If you don't like fast paced, twitch based combat, with no bullet drop, no lead time, and point and click weapons ALA unreal, or OG CS. you'll hate this game, because it will punish you for being a bad player. if you like those things and have always been good at them, enjoy your 23/0 score (hint: BH+SSG+Grenade = gg). The game is not completely finished! but has really tight controls and movement, feels like a solid game, and has lots of potential! Support these guys, they have created a really great hybrid. Thanks alot devs :)


First off this game is SOOOO much fun! IF! you like twitch based shooters and MOBA esque gameplay smooshed together with a fun simplistic blocky style to it that keeps your attention focused on the action. <---- If that turns you off, DON'T BUY IT!

You don't need to aim ahead, there is no bullet drop, quick scoping is a thing, and if your a high speed mofo, who used to love playing insta gib on unreal, playing snipers in this game will be cake, and will net you ALOT of profit.

MAJOR DISCLAIMER: This game is JUST barely out of early access, it's basically a beta right now. Meaning, there are alot of coming soon, and not implemented yet, for different upgrades and such on weapons and armors and what not. It literally says the build is like 0.5#### right now.

that being said IMHO it is totally worth 5 dollars, hell i would pay ten (provided i have the information i have now after playing it).

Gameplay and Asethetics: The graphics are simple, yet convey quite well what's going on, with the glow of weapons giving off an idea of your opponents weapon levels, and armor being able to usually distinguish what someone is wearing, if your willing to get that close. The ability to mix and match armor sets, as well as choose your own loadouts is very satisfying, as you get to compliment your weapon build with your armor build, getting things like +20% or +15% damage. You get to earn resources and craft your gear from blue prints. The progression is very satisfying.

Titan Mode: It starts, you have enough resource to craft one piece of armor, of three that you can wear. Helmet, Chestpiece, Leggings. You have your two weapons, and a extra item, grenade or mini gun turret.
So you immiedieatly go out to find your opponents and shoot/stab them to death. Did i mention their is melee!? So much fun.
Your titans have also spawned and are marching to meet in the middle of the map, you want to go put as much damage on your opponents titan as possible as an early pressure can really hurt them if they are not paying attention. Usually though, if both teams are somewhat competent or decent, or just paying attention. Both titans die quite quickly, then it goes into creep farming phase. In this phase, you want to kill the wee little creeps for crystals (which add +1 to your titans strength) and give you resources to upgrade your armors! (+20% health? yes pelase! 15% MOAR damage?! yes please!). Keep an eye out for the GOLDEN CREEP! when it dies and drops it's ONE golden resource the team to secure this immiedieatly gets +10 strength to their titan. When the timer ends for this phase, then it's back to tians smashing eachother and your (or hopefully the enemy teams) walls and eventually base. That is the game currently.

Current Game Balance IMHO: The overall balance is solid, with only a few weapons seeming kind of meh, and everything else feeling strong to use. The two main starter weapons are easily the strongest in the game sans snipers. but that depends on your skill level. Melee is strong, but low skill entry low ceiling, easy to kite. "
