bigger community = more visitors = more staff etc

i give them credit for sticking with their passion for sc for 8 years, create a great community and now being able to actually make money with it and give the site as much care as it needs. and it is benefiting the site and thus the community
they have done great work with the tournament overview etc... and im sure there is more to come
sure their big growth lately is based on the sc2 success but the fact that they are profiting from it so much is because of the good work they have done so far

while esr could also do so much better but its not going to happen anytime soon

i think esr has come a long way personally, when quake live user base increases (in the coming months) i think we'll see a much nicer ESR personally.. :D

Nothing is going to change really, both here on ESR and in Quakelive. QL will never have numbers which SC2 had even in the beta stage :P

I really blame the game itself. Quake is hard to learn and even harder to master. SC is easy to learn and hard to master, just like CS. Thats why those games have such numbers.

So, what's my point ? Well, people saying that TL > ESR, SC2 > QL etc are in fact bored by themselves. They are not even bored by quakelive or anything, they're just bored at life, mainly cuz of themselves. Tbh ESR is the shit, TL is way too serious business if you're not a dedicated nerd loving strategy games. Not saying that TL is shit, far from it, actually it's probably the best community website you could find if you play SC2. But still, if you're a quaker by heart, you just can't say that you don't enjoy zombie-land anymore (aka ESR). I mean, quake is the best fucking competitive fps ever made, John Carmack is a fucking genious, cooller is a fucking dick but so entertaining, awesome personnality, stermy is fucking beautiful & cool, rapha has the best profesionnal gamer profile ever, k1llsen is far from being "another random virgin math nerd with 0 face expression", i'd hit cypher cuz he's a sexy teenager with crazy aim, av3k scares the shit out of me he's a fucking bad boy beast, heartless aim is so fucking amazing, stunt.us is sooo annoying that it becomes funny... Was thinking about this when I suffered to some TL tournament thread. The threaded reply system is awesome overall.

I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons why the site is still enjoyable no matter how bad (funny) the trolls get, it's just much harder to clogg up a whole thread when all the reader has to do is ignore a specific comment branch (though it would be even MORE awesome if comment branches could be collapsed)

this is a main reason i'm hooked to this site
discussions are so tedious to follow on everything else

oh come on, i also love all this over here and esr still is the major quake hub and i am not going anywhere else, but that doesnt mean it could be better...
you cant deny that it would be an good thing if esr wouldnt crash at every major event and the other bugs were fixed, and how awesome would if be if esr could pull something of like the tsl? and covering events would be so much easier with a decent backend system that could also provide some cool possibilities

The crashes on esr haven't been too bad. I'd say that event coverage is one of esrs major strengths. Coverage of IEM was the best around. Front page, BAM, all kinds of updated links about the tourney in your face. Over at TL you had to dig to find any sort of current or relevant information.

TL is a cool site in need of a serious upgrade. With all their unique hits they should be able to afford to pay people to rearrange/overhaul. ESR is light years ahead in terms of forum/account system and event coverage.

Their community seems nice, maybe because of the axe wielding admins who may or may not be over the age of 19. You really need to watch your step on their forums even if you are being mature and reasonable. I almost got banned for referring to esr as a site they should look up to for upgrades. The admin told me not to spam my "stupid site nobody cares about".

hey, i dont wanna turn esr into tl nor am i saying that i prefer tl over esr. was just pointing out that tl is going somewhere but couldnt keep myself from adding that esr is not.

esr has similar problems when it comes to different kind of content, most things that arent major news get overlooked by most users

I think the cause of esr seemingly treading water is the fact that quake has a tiny community when you compare it to other games. No amount of self promoting tournaments will change the size of our community by a significant degree. I wish that millions of gamers would realize "Hey you know what? Halo is a terrible fps game when you compare it to Quake. I think I'll switch.", but it's not going to happen :(.

They really need to make schedules and streams more accessible for BW and SC2. As it is now, it's in the occasional news post and if you search for it you can find what BW matches are going on, but I'd just love a countdown timer and match list like ESR has for Starcraft :[
