Add:

bind mwheelup "+moveup" //to have it on scroll up

or

bind mwheeldown "+moveup" // for scroll down

to your cfg. I don't know what you would have to do with " ;wait", but I've never tried to bind jump to my mousewheel either. =)

If you're trying to bind jump to the scroll wheel button, you bind it to mouse3.

hmm... if it is, I remember reading that they fixed the stair code so there wouldn't have to be a stairjump script... yakumo's cfg had that script in it, and had it commented out b/c of the update.

Yeah that's what i've tried, but it doesn't work, something to do with that the mousewheel isnt a button, meaning it needs special command :| thanks anyway

hmm... never heard of that before. I figured it was a button just like any other key, as far as binding purposes go *shrug*

why do you want to jump with mwheel then? i can't think of a good reason to do this in quake.

Used to it from cs, + i dont really have any disadvantage with it i feel, can still do all RJ's and wha tnot

i know, people who come over from cs use it but in my opinion it's not a good idea in quake. i'd change to some other setup if i were you cos it will definitely help you in the long run.

Well IMHO right click to jump is the best(Except in WoW, but I never tried to change it). I think scrolling could be fine for jumping if you're using right click to shoot. As left click+scroll is hard to hit at the same time(Unless you're left handed).

i had the same problem cause i used to bhop with my scroll and ive got rather weird cfg (im using arrows :D), i had problems with rocket jumps so i just made 2 binds for jump, one on the wheel for all jumpyshit, and the another one on average button for rj, its working great ;p

in quake games you can hold jump a little early and it will jump when you hit the ground. with mwheel you risk it not being a perfect timed jump because it never actually held +jump, you're just spamming it

Binding jump to mwheel is a bad idea (unless it got some kind of special perpose and you got normal jump on another key).

As oreozz said in the Quake series keeping your jump key pressed while being in the air will result in a jump instantly when hitting the ground. This makes continuesly jumps very easy since you are able to hold the jump key all the time while jumping and only releasing it for a split second while being in the air.

Since you can't hold the mwheel pressed you will have to spam the key which will result in a slightly delayed jump.

Besides that Quake is a lot faster than CS so I am certain that jumping on mwheel is a pain in the ass compared to either space or mouse2.

For your own sake: throw your CS habbits away.

Try to remove as many actions as possible from the mouse, just hurts your aim... I can remember noctis' brother freak having "+attack" bound to the space or shift bar :)

Mouse 2 - zoom (all who think that that is stupid and lame are retarded and have never seen rail pros, because it's way easier to aim. There's no "all who don't use teh zoom are proz cuz it lookz kool" thing)
Mouse wheep up - jump (because it's way faster than keyboard buttons even if you are using flat keys)
R - rj script (I can still use space + mouse 1, but why do it when quake was made to be 100% customizable, u should do all kinds of scripts and tweaks in it. There's nothing lame or newbie on rj scripts. Most importantly it's close to WASD).

But everyone has their likings. A friend of mine moves with the arrows, jumps with ctrl, alt or shit (don't remember) and switches with numpad.. I mean very strange stuff.

In your mouse settings you can re-bind mwheelup to another key & then assign that new key as your jump button. Have to do the same to get mouse4 to work on my mx510.

Im using mwheelup and space to jump.. works fine
