The 25s have a pretty flat frequency response, they're good monitors in that respect, quite neutral. If you want more color then I guess you could go for something else, not sure if these technics are as sturdy and serviceable as the senns though.
Hopefully we can see some good infoin this thread, I'm interested in the 25s and its competition.

In that review your HD25's excelled so I wouldn't change them. I was seriously thinking about bying them when I was shopping for headphones, but money is no issue for me so I went for the Pioneer HDJ-1000 based solely on that review.

Thanks for the replys. Still lacking info on the DJ1200's - a couple of friends have seconded what I heard from a DJ friend about the Technics DJ1200 over HD25's - "match the sound but exceed on power and volume and frequency response.

The 1200's are rubbish and break all to easily. If you want to upgrade a bit, get HD 25-1 II. You want to upgrade to bass monsters, get Beyer dynamic dt770 80ohm version only. All the these h/phones except the technics are use in pro broadcast environments, that should tell you something. I have all of them, and the DT770's are the ones i use. The only people i know (i deal with a lot of dj's) with the technics got them for either the "name" or were sold them as part of a "dj setup".

i loved everything about the dt770/80 except for the bass and crappy pleather headband.

Get a better pre amp. It helps tighten up the bottom end.

LOL bass is the only thing I like on my 770.

I found these "in ear" headphones as well whilst searching that seem pretty impressive - Etymotic Research ER-4P's. I know these are something else, being "in ear" but the reviews of them are nuts! :) - so's the price as well :D for something so small.
Would be nice to be able to try before you by but I know thats not always possible.

The 80ohm version are easier for the amp to drive. In ear headphones are just that, in ear and are therefore small. We can't change the laws of physics. And as far as sound goes, if you want big sound you need a big box. I find in ear headphones fine if you can jam the fuckers right into your ears. This way it creates an air lock and your ear drum has to move in sympathy with the sound. But i find it good bang for the buck but fatigues really quickly. The thing is, what you have is fine (it's what you get on British airways first class) and more expensive big brother versions with the split headband are better allround but not by a massive amount. Bayerdynamics dt100's (old skool) and dt770's are used a hell of allot in pro situations the world over and for good reason. Also the 770's offer very good sound isolation, something that's good for broadcast and gaming situations, but as a recreational user people would really be getting them because they are the bassheads favorite. If you want audiophile then just get the sennheiser hd650 (or hd600 if you can find them) and a decent headphone amp, and be happy. I suppose it would be an idea to ask what music you listen to?

I'm into most types of music but mainly I love electronic music/club music (techno, minimal, progressive, deep house etc) The good stuff not the chavy crap :) Love the sound of the Funktion 1's and Martin Audio speakers in the clubs. Crisp clear trebles and thunderously punchy bass :) If I could be anywhere in the world listening to any setup it would be in DC10 in ibiza :) Only people who've been there know what I'm talking about :)

Ah we seem to have run into a problem. You see think F1 is junk. I did some demo stuff at the F1 farm down south and had them scratching there heads. The reason was there was bass notes missing from the music i took to demo. F1 is loud but doesn't go very low. I find the top end like razor blades on my ears. So i feel that you may find something like the dt770's have much more extension than you are used to. The top end is there but not forceful and so i find it doesn't fatigue. But they are the closest thing to a club in your head.

Nexo alpha is what i call a system, but it's also more expensive than most.

Well it's all a very personal thing. I have just been listening to both 25's and the 770's, and guess what? They both have pro's and cons! The thing is i feel the 25's are probably more accurate but the 770's are way more fun. I put them on and they have a relaxed sound and loads of bottom end. Dubstep sounds very nice as it's bass heavy music. The mid band in particular is where they differ. The 770's have sound that is not unlike the "disco smile" approach to studio mixing, this is where the graphic equalizer sliders would make a smile shape resulting in a slightly lower mid band. The 25's are almost the opposite "come down frown"? They sound more lively and forward but lack overall presence.....Before i disappear up my own arse, i will say this. The HD25's are going back on the shelf, as i have been listening to the 770's while writing this!

Buy online and send them back if you don't like them. Oh (just in case you wear glasses), one thing a friend told me was that 25's were the only headphones he could wear for long periods of time without having to remove his glasses. All others caused pain due to pressure on the arms of the glasses.

And don't listen to mp3's if you can help it ; )

I see you have the audigy 1 which is getting pretty old. If it was me, then i would probably skip getting new headphones and upgrade the soundcard instead. I remember my upgrade a few years ago from Sb Live! to audigy, and it was crazy how different the music sounded, even though i "only" had the sennheiser HD500. Currently i would pick the Asus Xonard D2X, above both creatives x-fi and auzentechs cards. I have always liked RMAA, so...

What are the op amps like on those cards? because that's what matters most for headphone use. I know the only X-FI card to go for is the top one. But i do agree, a massive amount can be gained from decent amplification. One thing i have come believe is that the dt770's do like to be run properly to stop the bass becoming "mushy".
