athe best advice i think is to go on your favourite map, and move around. aiming the angles must be comfortable or feel similar to before.
also make sure your shaft works, very important!

is your m_cpi supposed to match your mouse dpi/cpi? never really messed with that value

If you wish to use it, then yes. Otherwise it defeats the purpose.

By providing the game with what dpi your mouse is set to, it enables it to change the units it uses into something less abstract, assuming you use m_yaw 0.022 anyways.

Sensitivity becomes degrees/cm (360/this number to get cm/360). Velocity becomes cm/second.

Also if you change to a mouse with a different dpi, you can just change m_cpi, and accel/sens will be automatically adjusted to compensate.

Personally I'm so used to the regular system that I find it unnecessary. Plus there are cases in which the dpi the mouse should be set to, is not accurate, which could throw off your numbers when calculating from m_cpi 0 to m_cpi = your mouse dpi.

Measure your old sensitivity with a ruler and check how many cm/360. Adjust accordingly to new fov. How hard is that?

Sensitivity doesnt change when you change fov, it's just your perception. If you feel uncomfortable just lower it as much as you want

well, you shouldn't have to change since player movement speed hasn't, only what you see, but sensitivity have to travel same distance as before. If you change if will be harder, and you have to adjust to new fov AND sens. no point.

Fov is not 2d, dont think of it that way.

While I don't think it's really worth correcting the sens (I would just get used to it), you would just change sens to 21.0408. If you use accel let me know as there's a separate calculation for that.

Don't bother. Seeing as there is no data on how fast you move your arm the sensitivity (dependent on on m_yaw and m_pitch) is misleading and not worth much discussion. Just find a new comfortable value. A more interesting conversation is if you prefer your settings to compliment your movement or your aim. Considering how important movement is in Quake I think the former is a better choice.

There is some truth to that. I used 120 FOV in Q3A. There is no way I could go back to that now.

at 4:3 resolution setting cg_fov 90 will give horizontal fov 90.
at 16:9 resolution setting cg_fov 90 will give horizontal fov ~106.
this horizontal fov 106 is not very different from popular fov 110 in q3 times where resolution was 4:3.

what you forget is that vertical fov stays the same and that's actually more important for the feeling :}

How far away is the screen from your face? Definitely makes a difference. I suggest playing at 90 FOV for 30 minutes and then 110 FOV for 30 minutes. The mean is 100 and works well for most people. What I like about 90 FOV is that it is 1/4 360 degrees. That has no significance of course... unless you are a neat-freak. People prefer integers because they are more comfortable but it's beyond placebo in gaming.
