I'd like to see a new trend in streaming QL videos: games in full details, everything set to max and no picmip whatsoever. I don't get why are we all watching tweaked cfg all the time when it's only important for the player to have a clean view, not for specs. Quake looks fucking awesome and that's why you don't see picmip in any fragmovies. So why not do the same with streams?

I don't recall streams with graphics set to high/max, like ever. People outside of Quake doesn't ever realize how beautiful this game can look (it still looks superb as an esport game imo.).

there were attempts to bring streams with picmip 0 back then. it looked horrible even with hq (lq was like someone vomitting on your screen)
low gfx streaming aint because they think quake looks better that way - its because full detail makes your eyes bleed even with "high" bitrates

so why they are streaming every other game in full details?

every other game doesnt involve 125 fps/fast mouse movements/constantly changing positions

for the very same reason people in those other games hardly care about 120hz monitors, 125fps, 500-1000hz polling rates and whatnot.

but i guess all streams have more than 400kbit nowadays so maybe someone should make a new comparison at a higher bitrate. but i prefer the current settings anyway

i think last week one of the lvl^ streamers tried picmip 0 and was pretty smooth hope he uses it when he streams

Rather something like "we got used to it after all this years and we like it" Last game released onid tech 3 (besides ql) was jedi knight:ja in 2003 as far as I remember and there are good reasons for it. With picmip 0 it looks clean and professional, help viewers concentrate on important things in game. It has it's unique style and wont get old like "photo-realistic" engines. They aren't photo-realistic actually, they have their own main-stream aesthetics which is evolving very quickly making old games look... old.

Only first cod (2003 like jk:ja) is based on idtech3 and imo it looks better than quake.

source is based on goldsource ( hl ) which is based on....idtech1 + a few stuff from idtech2.
The mouse system is still the same at the very least :D

as for cod, just check the net cvars in blackops that were supposed to fix every problem when the game was release, that's virtually q3 101.

in a recent episode about idsoftware, on machinima iirc, they said that even the newest COD games use an engine that is based on the original COD, and that one was based on idtech 3.

I got used to picmip 50% because it felt better and 50% because the art direction of q3 is terrible. Stop living in the 90's ffs.

I meant ppl who like picmip 0 look of quake (for me it looks ok, but as I said my opinion i biased) I didn't say that most playable (for me it's 5) picmip looks good, it was about lego quake vs texturized quake.
