I bought ie3 from ebay for 5 euros (new) and it doesn't have wheel problem(bug), like wmo or old ie3 had. dunno wtf :D

There's a mouse program (I forget the name, I'm in class atm) which you move your mouse 10cm, and it measures your DPI.

I think you did it wrong. For the DPI measuring tool, move the mouse 10cm (or 4 inches) while holding down the button. Get a ruler and measure it. The number after should be 400, or possibly 450 (give or take 5 or 10)

Additionally, look at the DPI measurement before you release the button, because the program will snap to the next DPI in two hundredth when the button is released.

Well, like I said the last time there was a big argument over it, I bought a 3.0 recently (with new serial number) and it was 400dpi.

One of my posts explained how when you buy a 'new' one, means it's not brand new from the factory. There are 450dpi 3.0s.

first one is bulk, comes without box and drivers. second one is retail, with box and drivers. both same mouse. stermy uses the old 3.0 with the old sensor but better build quality. cooller uses a wheel mouse optical 1.1a

The difference as far as I can see from those two links is one is OEM and one is retail. As in, one comes without boxes etc and one comes as you'd find in the shop.

The old IE3.0 has the same technical data sheet as the new one, it says "400 points per inch" in it.

I think we can savely assume if noone has found a difference by now there is none.

Ok actually there is a slight difference, the color (old: silver, new: black or grey) and the feet (new: teflon, old: plastic).

I cannot be sure unless I bought the new one, which I won't. So I have to ask google, and google said only idiots with no facts to back it up claim 450, all others with a clue claim 400.

OK they printed 450 DPI on the package. That could very well be a theoretical number, of the raw sensor for example, and what the mouse actually is capable of in the end is 400 DPI. What matters for us gamers? The actual value.


If you have both, it is not hard to compare. But I did not find a single post that claimed to have tested both head to head and found they were different, so...

Do you have an older model to compare with? It could be the case that whatever method you use for measurement would show the same values for the old and new model, so I think a head to head comparison would be best.

You were right, the enotus mousetest shows IE3.0 (the old one) is ~450 dpi. I'm the idiot for assuming the old model has 400 dpi.

Some other mice I measured just now had the exact dpi they said they have, so no reason to doubt the program.

MS Comfort Optical Mouse 1000 was exactly 500 dpi
A4Tech X718 was exact to the single dpi. I tried 174 dpi and it was 173 :O
But the salmosa had only 750/1750 dpi (50 less) :/

Oh fuck, the Salmosa is 750? No wonder my sensitivity was fucked when I went to the Salmosa. I just assumed the 3.0 was 450 dpi, and not the Salmosa at 750 dpi.

Well, even though it was a wrong assumption, in a sense I was still right. There are 450dpi ones out there. I'm not saying ALL are. Just some. I think the rule of thumb is that if you get one directly brand new from Microsoft with the GotFrag review on the box, it SHOULD be 450dpi.

My IE3.0 is from 2003, so I think all IE3.0 and WMO are 450 dpi, except for the ancient crappy 2000 fps versions (WMO and IMO).

I use the salmosa without razer drivers so that could make a difference I guess. -> no it doesn't.

edit: Ok I remembered, Sujoy tested the WMO in his Mousescore and found that the WMO has 400 dpi. He also tested the IE3.0 (the new model!) which had identical graphs so he concluded they share the same hardware.

So the enotus mousetest prog probably gives false results, maybe that's the reason it jumps to hundereth at the end of the dpi test.

im pretty sure the salmosa is 800 dpi as I went from 1600 dpi 6/11 windows on a diamondback to 800 dpi 8/11 in windows with the salmosa and the sensitivity was exactly the same.

Yes, my best guess is that the enotus test is inaccurate. That's too bad, I was hoping for a tool to spare all gamers the need for extensive hardware mouse tests like Sujoy's.
