Having a separate app for each website is annoying and cumbersome. A m.esreality.com would be great though. And yes I still volunteer as a tester (as I got asked a while ago).

As I said before, a small but respectable community donation drive to re-design ESR or make a mobile theme will get people interested in doing it. I'm sure that for a few hundred bucks one of the many web programmers that visit ESR would be willing to put in the hours to do it with a little more incentive.

I'm sure many people on ESR would chip in 5 bucks or so, it wouldn't take much.

C++ has lots of features that i wont use, and the ones i would use I can implement in C... most of the libraries and features are things i don't care for, like automatic memory management, OOP, and a lot of data structures I can just implement myself. at that point I just don't have a need for it.

The latency problem between the phone > wifi router > playstation might ruin some fast paced games, the guy in the video says there is about 1/4 of a second, so 250ms latency kind of puts me off it a bit.

When I think of using a controller I think of the oldschool platformer games like megaman x where it's quite fast and twitchy, or fighting games like street fighter etc.

Whatever you want to do. I mean, if you have no relevant experience, it would mean some learning, but I can give you some tutorial links. If you have experience, than you should have a good guess what you want to work on.

I think the best way to deal with it, is to rewrite, I'm dealing with in in maintenance mode :) But, it's a bigger job than having a mobile viewer for example, and that's a useful task. It really does depend on what the developer is interested in.

esr is a community driven site. it's odd in an age of "startups".

esr is also a huge collection of spaghetti code, which is an overwhelming undertaking for any developer.

there is an existing database, which has some quirks that cause strange cascading corruption problems.

an app created to interface with this site would need to be created with all the quirks and flows and things in mind. it would require lots of preparation, study, research, etc.

it's not a task for any individual with a little free time to kill.

The DB schema is basically perfect, the corruption is because of just one racy aspect of MySQL and spaghetti code relying on this everywhere. The DB and site can remain with a rewrite, but all ESR features are actually plentiful, and functional, so that would be quite a bit of work to catch up for no immediate benefit.

There is interest in a read-only app, or with a subset of functionality, just to comment, it should be quite easy.

word press sucks like drupal, null nuke reinvented the internet and made it all posh and run at lightspeed

there was a time when either was mentioned in every job advert, now its just web developer

got null nuke, you start off uninstalling all modules, then open the main file and module config files, and making your own directory tree and using the null as a cross platform, cross server framework that builds everything as it goes along and migrating involves, just copying the files to another server or OS and doing nothing else

null nuke is a very clean and lite cms it's pretty easy to manage with a simple structure, I do like it don't get me wrong but it'd be a real pain in the ass to get is responsive, I've dabbled and the vulnerabilities are a bit scary lol. You would really need to re-do a lot of what null nuke is.

Wordpress is free if you install it on your own hosting, you'll have to buy a one off premium theme that'll support this, however if any of the devs have a basic knowledge of php etc this whole site structure can be implemented easily.
