ESL is continuing its support of UT4 with Duel ladders which are now open and ready for you to sign up! As seen before with open cups, ESL keeps the North American and European scene active by letting players from both continents duel in two separate ladders. The normal challenge mode has been enabled which lets players challenge each other, besides that a matchmaker is available where you can enter or accept a match at any time. A 1 month ESL Premium subscription award awaits the most active players in each ladder.
It's free and 4.9gb just give it a try some time if you want.
The movement's still not a patch on Quake, or the weapons, the same as the earlier games really, so if you liked them you'll be happy. The graphics are getting better, but it still feels like an early Quake 2 mod to me to be honest.
I'm not against a bit of "fanboyism" to quake etc , (I very very like it myself) and I can live with your lack of objectivity depicted by the non presence of "I think the movement is better in quake" or " I think the weapons are better in quake" instead we got "it is". It's some purely subjective comments. But I mean, REALLY, did you just say the Unreal Engine 4 feels like a Quake 2 mod gfx wise? Like really?
*Feel* isn't based on texture/filtering/shader quality.
And the only reason I said anything about how I felt about the game is because the person I was replying to, EmSixTeen is a friend and fellow Quake player :)
You were talking precisely about gfx, first of all. Second of all you brought to "competition" in this domain, quake 2 and the UE4. Feeling or not, you can't possibly be serious at all comparing both because one is way above the other (note that, I dont care much at all about gfx as i play on low for everything). I'm talking here about pure objectivity.
Where it's also clear you're trying to "save the appearance" is showed is the following
*Feel* isn't based on texture/filtering/shader quality.
So you're precisely talking about gfx even saying "it's getting better", then about this particular aspect of the game, you're saying it's not based on texture/filtering/shader quality. You got low poly barely textured map, and even finished map like outpost, lea, chill to compare both etc . So if you're comparing ut4 'on purpose' with not textured maps to quake2 mod gfx wise it's as unrelevant as it can be (still can't be serious) and about finished maps, you could be... hum... Lets stay polite =) .
Just admit you went full 'over the top' (to not be insulting again) with the comparison of gfx ue4/quake2mod and lets call it a day.
It's not garbage. I haven't played it for a while but the last time I played it was pretty good. I understand what Lwf is trying to say. I also know that Yakumo didn't mean to say that UT4 is a bad game, especially since the game is in pre-Alpha stage and he didn't state if he even tried it himself. That wouldn't make sense.
What Lwf is trying to say, in my opinion, is that most users here are Quake players and love the game, which is understandable. But on the other hand comparing every game to Quake and not liking it because it's not Quake is wrong. Also, Quake is not the best game ever made, I mean, even the community says so, dozens of threads on that matter on this site alone.
Will UT4 be an awesome game? Time will tell. Will Quake players like it? No, they won't. But they don't like anything that is not Quake anyway.
Seeing how ESL is supporting the game at such an early stage is promising for the competitive side of this game.
