Jesus... making sure that something this stupid doesn't happen again in the future for starters. They also received plenty of criticism from the very day the tournament was announced but i guess when the criticism doesn't go through zoot it never happened.

Probably a good idea to remind them in a public forum 90 seconds after losing the CTF final then, just in case they forget whatever was mentioned previously and had no time to take criticisms later.

That was when it was the most fresh on my mind since i had just lost a bunch of money on my whole quakecon trip (something a caster probably doesn't have to worry about) so obviously it was an emotionally charged comment. Posting it at a later time would have made fuck all of a difference in terms of how it's going to be perceived by someone as professional as you tho.

I guess you shouldn't participate then if you are concerned about losing the money you spend going to events. Do you need a big sign next time that warns players they aren't guaranteed prize money when entering a competition?

It's lovely that you are implying that I have a professional attitude, but what does it have to do with me? In the interview I discussed the obvious lack of integrity of top level quakers, something that is visible throughout the entire scene. You are not disproving my point at all.

I can understand being emotionally affected when endeavours fail, but complaining about the agreed on terms is lack of integrity.

its not like those were negotiated terms. they were imposed by one guy who wouldnt listen to anyone else. If youre forced to agree to something you dont like you still retain right to criticize it

It's not like the terms of going to school for example are negotiated, yet you still accept them when you start your education.

Now there is a fine line here between complaining and constructively trying to change these terms. Blaming a failed exam on too many pages to read does not make sense, since you knew the terms from the beginning of the course. On the other hand, trying to change the curriculum for next semester or during a semester due to a perception of a unrealistic magnitude of a course is an act of integrity - however you wont always get what you want.

In your gun-to-your-head analogy you assume away the differentiating factor, which is that of self-ownership. The assaultee has the right to decline the assaulter's conditions and go on living. You don't have a right to have a Quakecon tournament set up out of someone else's resources just the way you want.
If, then, you agree to take part in it, you accept the tournament's conditions.

So no, nobody was forced. The default scenario here (similar to going on living without a gun pointed at you) is not participating. Noctis picked a preferable option to the default scenario, although not ideal by his declared preference.

A more accurate analogy would be the following: you're walking along the street and a guy comes up to you and says "ey wanna buy this classic 6000 DPI Razer mouse for 20$? You buy it and then complain you should have been able to buy it for 10$." There's obviously something fishy about that sort of behaviour.

Despite that, noctis is totaly correct, chiefly because of this argument

The analogy is perfect as there are two options: live or die (go to lan, dont go to lan). you could always buy another mouse in your scenario, but he hasnt got a different lan to go to. if you take away the option to buy another mouse in your analogy then it becomes totally different as it would be complaining about of someone abusing his position to extort you (monopoly).

Seems i have to set it up in a QCON example for you to understand.

If a players motivation for attending QCON is earning a profit, then you should not blame the agreed on rules afterwards if you fail to do so. Assuming rationality you would only agree if your expected profit is positive based on the given restriction (price distribution etc.), thus failing to earn the expected profit can only be blamed on your ability to estimate the likelihood of succes, since you otherwise would decline to attend.

I don't know what Noctis said after this final, I don't know his motivation for attend, and I really don't care. Thats a discussion for the involved.

You are correct in the regard that the players cant complain that they were treated unfairly or fooled in any way. However I don't think that the statements made by noctis and others implied anything like that, they simply critisized the format at hand. You could only call them out for a lack of integrity if the statements were deliberately written in a misleading fashion implying that the prize disribution was not known beforehand. If anything you can critisize the players for not showing enough appreciation to the tournament organizers.

Basically thats why I don't accuse either noctis nor zoot of lack of integrity. My comment was directed towards anonymous!

Integrity means staying true to oneself and doing the right thing, no matter how it makes you look. Keeping your mouth shut because of some stupid notion of professionalism ("integrity", if you want to call it that) or being grateful to the people that pissed you off in the first place even tho you're pissed off as hell and want to rant publicly is the exact opposite of that.

I subscribe to both zlive and fazz, as I am sure many people do, for me those are pretty much the only 2 quakecentric channels with premium content.

There are a couple of russian streams that are worth checking out too, but I don't speak Russian :(.

I dont understand why everyone is mad at Zoot, all he did is giving his opinion and i really appreciate his honesty, he agreed to do the interview and was happy and very excited about it, he answered those questions quickly and was helping me out with everything.

I talk to him twice per year and i have to say that he is one of the rare ppl which take the time to answer you and was glad to help me out and do some research with me aswel.

Plz respect those that keep the Quake scene alive, most ppl dont care but he was one of the few whom stepped up and kept the Quake scene alive and even made a whole studio just to cast the weekly and daily Quake matches.

A huge thx to him for this interview and for all the time he took to stream and cast for the Quake fans.

P.S : Zoot is taking a break from casting for at least 4 - 6 months
