Needs to be leagues for all levels.
Can't just focus on the best 8 players in NA though.

ability to move up
small prizes like sub tokens for lower tier leagues
maybe one large prize for end of the year finals (mice, maybe even gfx card)
save cash prizes for high tiers.

Focusing on the "pro" players.. the smallest aspect of the actual community is the wrong way to go imo.
The majority are shit fuckers... so make shit fucker tourneys.
Theres room for everyone, but the focus has always been the top tier.

Back in September 2014 the first N.A. DuelCup as held. A two day event with over 60 sign ups and 20 no shows for the group stage, and 7 no shows for the 16 player bracket on day two. Now of course things were simply shifted around, and the players who barely didn't make the bracket the first time around were called upon. It was a hit, and it was also complete chaos (for me) due to a lack of experience. Luckily Jehar was there casting the whole thing or I might have lost even more hair.

Why bring up the past? Every month someone suggests an amateur league/event, and I would like you all to keep doing so! It is something I want to do, however there are several reasons why I have not. Time, money, help, and of course supply and demand. We all want more time and money; enough said moving on. I have just recently (literally a few hours ago) confirmed a co-caster for future duelcup.com events. Having a permanent co-caster will allow me to do so much more. As a one man operation I face a lot of obstacles, and the community has been amazing in supporting both myself and the event. Jehar, Inspectre, and ZorakWar each helped stream one the first three cups when I could not. The cups have received over $300 in total donations. People are watching the content. They are watching the streams, vods, the random casts, and it is fantastic! So the demand is growing, but the supply (of players) is not and my interaction with the community tells me a lot about when I can move forward with this project.

With all of that being said it has been my plan for quite some time to run weekly events for N.A. that encompass multiple game types for multiple skill levels. In fact I would love to run as you say....

This is unrealistic at this point in time, even for a "larger more active" community like EU. . Based upon player feedback I have had plans since december to start a league in April. Early sign ups and unscheduled duel dates make me very uncertain of its success rate. So This was not to pick your post apart in critique but rather to echo what I have already said before, and that is that I need feedback! I know what I like. If I was putting all of my time and money into what I wanted to see this would be a classic TDM League. Luckily I have a small sliver of my sanity left and realize that the community drives this and the community will ultimately shape the North American Duel Cup.


ps: first weekly (not duel) event will be announced next Sunday

Well.. i don't think you really need money to run leagues.
The devs should donate subs for prizes and be more active in this respect.
Most of it doesn't really even need to be streamed. Just semi/finals.
Just some volunteer admins to run cups/referee.

Just a place for competition to happen at all levels.
Obviously easier said than done lol.

But in all seriousness I care and I went head first into this streaming-admin-organizer-role completely blind. It has been (mostly) enjoyable so far though. If I am the only one who cares that is fine. Besides... where else would these efforts go? I can't just go pretend to like a game and cast/stream it. Besides I don't know who would even care if I did take up a different game! Despite what people tell me I don't even think I'm very good at this (lol) but I'm having fun.

I play other games, but every game I play (and enjoy) currently has a small community just like quake. I could go put all my efforts into King of Fightters XIII for example! Or maybe stream myself playing Diablo 2. If we want to get "massive" then how about my Ultima Online free shard experiences on uosecondage.com

I'm not trying to be a hipster or anything. I just don't enjoy what is currently popular. If I was forced to leave all of my niche games behind and choose something from the "popular list" I would probably play Dota2. I'm not entirely opposed to the MoBA model, but again not for me!

Very strange map list... not sure why Dismemberment is back in the mix of things, but I'll see if I can make it to this one.

First off because it had to get in at least once! However, the real reason is quakecon. Since the NA DuelCup will be mirroring the Quakecon map pool (99.9999% sure anyway) I wanted to get all the "odd maps" in before the list was released.

ps: no showing up during grand finals saying "i forgot" this time :)

Seems impossible to mirror the Qcon map pool 99.9999%...if it's a pool of 7 maps, you could only have either 100% (all maps the same), 85.7143% (6/7 maps the same), 71.4286% (5/7 maps the same), and so on. Or am I taking things too literally?

Also, I like your logic for throwing in some "odd" maps while you still can!

P.s. do you know if Twitch still registers a viewer when I'm watching the stream through livestreamer/VLC?

Paypal was showing all my payouts as pending and I had to call paypal support to get it all cleared up. The CTF payments and the duelcup payments had a total of $310 pending ...

CTF payment I used what I had left in the account ($50) so when that one reverses I will still owe $15 to WE? (psygib's team)

The duelcup payments are still f***ed looks like....

Normally I would simply contact all of the winners individually but this is a huge **** up that I feel needs to be addressed pubically. This should have been able to be sorted on the 22nd. However for those of you who are used to seeing me every day you may have noticed I have been MIA.... This is because I have spent the better part of 3 going on 4 days sick as a dog. I'll spare you the details....

Point is: I have never not paid anyone out and I don't want people to think that is the case. The fact that some people have started thinking this is absurd. I would never try to ruin everything we've built up over the last 6 months for some chicken scratch.

TLDR: I haven't forgot.
