Useless info for most people, but extremely useful information to have about a player when going against him if you actually put any effort in dodge (which nobody really does). So yea, maybe we should've left that part out!

I went over this with demon, if you're not able to shift your hands to dance on keys or lean in to close keys then you're doing it wrong.

Exactly, but I still went on to explain that your dodging isn't exactly limited by your close keybinds because you can just lean into the close keys to your strafe keys when strafing in either direction.
You can also ( if you're a fucking ninja) shift your fingers to a different position on the movement keys and free up other fingers.

I'm pretty sure that in that show I said at least once "Either X can't move to a certain direction or he'll have to do it in a very uncomfortable way", which gives the other player an advantage anyway :D

I don't exactly remember whose config it was, but I was a little amazed that both zoot and ins were BAFFLED by the guy's monster high sens! Like, "This is impossible to play with!!1" but none of them even thought about lowering their DPI from 1150 to 450.

Would be better if they adjusted all the sens and accel to their own dpi. It's actually pretty funny to see how changing to someone's sens will make your mouse movement so similar to the player in question. Dahang and Av3k were quite recognizable if i recall correctly.

The whole dodge thing is pure BS. The amount of situations you can abuse with this knowledge is stupidly low if it even exist in the first place.
I think rapha bound the movement key to wqse so that he can push a and d with his second phalanx. I changed d to e myself because I though it was a great idea.

I love how Quake allows you to adjust every single piece of the game so that you can make it to your own taste and invent new tools to improve your gameplay.
The lego quake on RL is probably to give squares on the floor as aiming indicators.

This is one of the best things about id's old design philosophy. The players know what they want best so give them the tools to make it.

That's naive. Id didn't make scalable picmip so players could choose what's best for them. It's because in 2000 the pcs were less powerful than the average smartphone of today.
When quake came out, few people could hit stable 125 fps. With the most expensive pcs of the time.
640x480 was a common screen resolution at that time.
You needed to lower everything to achieve decent framerate.

cg_gibs 0? People set it because the meat gibs bouncing around sucked up a lot of resources.

If a game developer, proud of his hard-worked, last generation, advanced engine could lock everything set up to the absolute maximum, he would.

The developers are never happy when you run their games in plastic mess resoutions and setups.
Also keep in mind that some commonly used cvars were locked. Because they weren't considered useful or something anybody should mess around.
Some cvars gives you a "cheats are not allowed in the server" message in the console, in vanilla q3.

I remember even seeing a Fatality video on youtube, where he tried some setting and the "cheat are not.." came up on his screen. Of course it was just some inoffensive setup that wasn't allowed in the mod he was playing in.
Someone got all upset and curious about those "cheats" Fatality was trying to use on a tournament, in the video comments. Funny stuff.

As usual, it was a community idea to unlock most cvars and even adds more in the OSP and CPMA mods.

Even strafejumping was considered a bug and a cheat at the beginning of quake.
