How can you even tell that Source 2.0 is bad compared to CryEngine 3.5 or 4 when the only thing you see is a remake of an old gen map?

Brilliant.

We are talking about Valve, Valve probably makes more money than Epic Games and CryTech and they definitely are there to remain the top dog on PC. Most triple AAA game studios right now are creating their own next gen engine, so the probabilities are pretty high that Source 2.0 will be just as great as CryEngine 3.5 or 4 or whatever. And at this point, graphics are getting stagnant, so th difference between each next gen engine is going to be very small.

And thank you for caring, I'm having a lot of fun developing DG. I hope you have just as much fun these days...

valve makes monies from steam, and gives little to no shit about engine race.

thats why crytek is #1 for last 5 years? maybe more, i dont remember when first crysis went out.

and yea, im having fun.

And you don't think that Valve would greatly benefit from a Game Engine specifically designed for Steam+Steamboxes when they got pretty much the whole Indie Games market? And with the Steam Wrokshop you don't think it would make a lot of sense for them to release a more stable, up to date and accessible version of the Source Engine to their huge community?

CryEngine might look great but it always ran like crap. And as I said, the difference between the next gen AAA games will be very small, so who cares about CryEngine anymore?

specifically designed for steambox? you mean like almost any existing engine? steambox is pc on linux with predefined parts, i dont see why ANY game that would get optimized for working on pc wouldnt run and look awesome.

i'd say everyone whos engine is not as good as cryE cares about it.

I said specifically designed for Steamboxe/ Steam. Like the filmmaker tools, Steam Workshops/ mods, Online features, etc. Not every game engine or game is well designed for Steam or the Steambox.

If PC gaming takes over console gaming as I believe it will, if Source Engine 2 is affordable, it could well become the game engine of the future.

Steamboxes = powered by Linux & Steam.

Source Engine can take full advantage of low level hardware access of Steamboxes + all Steam functionalities exclusive to future Source 2 games just like the exclusive Filmmaking tool right now available on Steam.

Yeah, on another planet of clairvoyants apparently.

so, you say only valve softwere will get performance boost when used on pc with predefined parts and linux as OS?

hard to belive.

But Source is multiplatform, easy moddable, free for f2p mods, has tons of tutorials for anyone willing to make something in it and so on.

Also - Source is FAST.

Okay, one thing is equal. Also - game engines are not only about graphical possibilities when it comes to "judging them".

That Static pic shows some impressive static light imo. Drop there some HQ content and you got something really nice. Imagine QL with such great light.
