i imagine quake has one the highest age averages in the gaming communitiy. lack of newcomers coupled with possibly the longest running multiplayer game series being the main reasons. once you're hooked it's for life.
most ppl here should still be old enough to have experienced playing outside, not like todays kids. No white kids outside playing where i live, only immigrant children, the "rich" white middle class(i see those 1st graders 7-10y carry mobile smartphones) is just walking home from school looking at their phones(srsly) and prob. going home to sit in front of the computer/tv/console.
I missed playing computer as a kid, my friends had computers and snes' eventually playstation when that came out, but i didn't have any of those which i'm grateful of today, or maybe not, as it caputered me even harder when i finally got the means to get video games myself.
Its just sad to see nowadays kids spend their time infront of console/pc/tv instead of tree climbing, playing tag and all other games/stupid things we did :-)
im between demographics here. im 23, but about to be 24, and 24 falls in the 24-30 range (iirc per the poll) however, ive been playing quake since 2011, so i dont think this thread accurately represents me. im actually 8.
my theory is you are a 50 year old guy who wants to stay in touch with his secret son, a professional quaker and that`s why you created a fake identity.
Well, it's true that sometimes it's painful to read your "jokes". Also hard to avoid, because they're all around. And no, no ignore list. That just lowers the site's "entertainment" value.
considering the age of quake 3, esr etc most players should be 20-30, now if we consider qw and q2 we are in a range thats 30-40 or something. It depends on where ppl started.
I got a
baby's brain and an old man's heart
Took eighteen years to get this far
Don't always know what I'm talkin' about
Feels like I'm livin in the middle of doubt
Cause I'm
Eighteen
I get confused every day
Eighteen
I just don't know what to say
Eighteen
I gotta get away
I have no intention to stop gaming at all, probably will always be a gamer and looking forward to my kids playing (excuse to buy the latest stuff) My dads 62 now and he still plays quite a bit on his pc/mac and xbox360.
This was done a while back in QL forums..Two of the oldest that posted where,,Swampy@58,,and [email protected] who posted were in the mid 20's..So there are a few of us out there.
Yes regarding this poll the most part of people would be able to buy pro or atleast premium. Anyway this just shows ESR stats. I personally know some players which are 10-12 yo.
Those would be other results. I see most of ESR complaining about premium, but I guess they just don't want to pay for a worldwide service that distributes patches and updates centrally as well as hosts servers. I could understand they want private servers, but there has to be a consensus with centralized updates and keeping servers updated.
It's what kinda killed a mod that I loved to play for Quake 2 called DDay. Mappers were creating and releasing maps to test. Several devs were trying out new game DLL's and before you knew it every server was different and you couldn't connect because they were running an outdated version of a map they weren't supposed to be putting on their servers in the first place. It tends to be a mess. Even now where I consider my DDay folder to be fairly complete I'm still missing textures and bump into "this map version differs" errors when connecting to a server, and there's only 5 left.
28 here, started multiplayer with q2 <3 in '97 I think, and moved to q3 (q3test) in '99 - '00. Before q2 it was DukeNukem, Doom II and a bit of Q1 sp. So I've been playing quake for more than half of my life :)), but I was never that good to break through.
I'm 33 - was very active in the UK QW scene in the late 90s until 99 when I went to university. after 4 years at uni I was too busy with girls, cars and mountain bikes to give much of a shit about quake. got back into it with QL a few years ago but only play a bit. Still follow the tourneys etc though.
There's a lot of teens playing Quake Live. Barely any know of ESR's existence and the ones that do stay away for obvious reasons. Posting the poll on ESR is going to give you the most biased results possible.
Besides, the T rating was not to open the game to teens (who would have played anyways, clicking "yes I'm over 18" isn't hard). It's to make the title more sport-like and to allow TV broadcasting (yes, there was a program on Eurosport with a QL episode) and perhaps most of all, advertising. QL initially was supposed to live on ads alone.
But where the fuck does that 22 decimal -> 22 hexadecimal come from? Because there as to be a link... you certainly didn't type "10110" for no reason, right?
Played Q3 from 99-2003
Took a break: working abroad, M.Sc in IT
Started playing QL carelessly during the beta - keeping it that way until something better comes along ;)
I'm 37 and I wish I had found out about Quake (online) 10 years before I did.
Played the single player adventures many times back then, but never got triggered to play online.
Should've made a savegame in my life back then... Now I cannot start anew...
Would've also saved me a lot of money drinking beer 'n stuff...
Ah well, had a good time doing that, too
