Are there any numbers on how many people are (still) playing Shootmania?

The game was beta when you saw it, and now it's a final product, and being tweaked everyday!


You only depend on your skill (for example, 1 vs 3 when attacking on elite mode). Either you kill, or be killed! What other game gives you the chance to play alone against 3 other guys with equal chances to win? You can have many moments of glory!


Sadly, nowadays youngsters just want easy games and no challenge whatsoever. Its easy to say that your teammate failed. You can't do that in ShootMania, if you fail an attack, YOU did it. Same goes if you win, YOU did it.


You can't beat the feeling of a kill with a rail or a rocket, you must agree with that at least :P

Shootmania nowadays is the same crap it was in alpha, I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Ok, old post and old thread, but gonna throw my 2 cents in here anyway...

Actually, many aspects of Shootmania has gotten worse since alpha/early beta, and it all boils down to Nadeo trying to dumb down and simplify everything along with slowing down the gameplay.

They have a shit philosophy about wanting to keep 100% the same settings all over SM, including different modes. And by doing this they end up with a lot of mediocre mods instead of a few select good ones.

It doesn't help that Nadeo doesn't seem to understand their own gamemodes so they add stuff with no regard to how it's gonna affect balance of modes (Elite especially).

And let's not start with the fact that grass slows you down and makes players silent (further than 5 meters away) which for Elite is incompatible seeing as you have to hide and rely on sound on defence. Attack is even worse on grass maps since defenders can come sneaking up from behind for real surprise.

And then there are all the shit bugs regarding the movement and physics in the game. And it's not even on top of their priority-list fixing that along with the netcode.

I've been a huge supporter of Shootmania for almost a full year because I see a potential there. Sadly Nadeo is trying to take away anything that is mechanically challenging in the game. B2 microjumps and walljumps were skillbased as fuck, so that had to be nerfed. Why? God knows why.

And the entire idea behind the tri-laser system is just as much about nerfing good aim. Good aim is still rewarded, just not as much as it would be with a pixelperfect laser.

The entire project is a fail from start to finish. A great idea, lousy execution. And whenever you criticize bad choices they make Hylis just sniffs at you and say they want to move forward with people who want the game to succeed.

The end result being Nadeo only listening to asskissers who tell them they're doing a great job and praising them.

Fuck Nadeo and fuck Hylis. Absolutely clueless about a competitive esport title needs. I mean, the game has less active players now than what it had during open beta. That alone says a lot about the amounts of fail, yet they refuse to acknowledge this fact because, in their own words, "We plan to have more players in 5 years than today".

Not a difficult feat considering SM has like 300 players online at the same time during peak hours. And that is spread out over ALL the modes.

Not to mention the extra randomness they keep adding to the game these days because "It looks so cool when it happens".

I play online since 1998 or similar ... i dont come here to insult anyone, just saying my opinion in a forum dedicated to shootmania that you created.
I believe this game is based on what I said in another post, it is just my opinion and I wish you would give an opportunity to the game. True, equal to Quake 1 does not exist or will exist, but I believe that this game also has its value and its potential, you canīt deny that...

have you tried the alternatives, those new games that came out recently, err what are they called again, quake3 or that quake live-dlc?

i mean, yea right now shootmania is the most hardcore game there is, but you could give those alternatives a try. they are decent, ive heard

I played Quake 3 and QuakeLive for 1 year, but was not the same feeling, the maps not convince me as the old DM6, or the dm3 Quake1. I stopped playing fps and start rpg and other stuff, I was waiting for another fps that would bring me back some old school feelings. This can keep me in addiction for extended periods of time with some old school feelings, especially the elite mode.

Im not saying that quake 3 or 4 is worst or better, just saying this is a game that price/fun/skill is at the moment great.

Who knows later on ill try again quakeworld ;).

i knew a guy who was called "ruler". i remember somewhere in 2005 he beat me on ospdm12 while i was high as fuck on the weed i robbed of him while playing. afterwards i stole his bike and left the LAN. recently i found out he was arrested for 4 years for smuggling about 150kg of weed. true drunken story.
