Much as I like ins and DDK, please don't let them cast anymore CTF...

TDM, Duel and even CA they cast really well, but when it comes to CTF, they haven't a clue... They need to understand the tactics on each map and know who the main players are on each team and set up binds to switch to them quickly throughout the match. During the level 6 cup they spent 10 minutes on a base defender circling items before they thought maybe they should try to switch pov and see what might be happening at the other end of the map, and another 10 minutes discussing their surprise that the quad could get picked up by another player after killing the quad carrier, which apparently "...is so different from TDM!"

Making a list of the players and "\bind 1 follow 1" etc could be gold in TDM too. At least if ID made freaking avaible both teams overlais for spects.

I feel like most of the action goes unnoticed there too and i feel like that's the main issue holding it back in the viewers count.
Lack of overlay with everyone's armor and position kills the spects options. It would be awesome and easy to jump from one player to another depending on their stack or their position.

That brings something to my mind: Bind followkiller 1 and 0 somewhere mby?
Sometimes TDM is just too messy and i'd show what a guy does off the spawn instead. But other times you want to stick around a certain area because of the items, so just bind it mby?
It would be cool during Duels too, more cam time for the chased is fine, to show how he gets back. And mby watching a great +b while being outstaked or holding a lead could be cool too.

I've not heard them cast CTF but I suspect there's a lot of truth to your comment :(

CTF structure is full of duel and tdm elements. Period. And then you add the ctf elements to the others and you have new mod called ctf.

People should really play the modes they like and stop this trash talk about duel/tdm vs ctf.

Being a fulltime ca-professional now, I approve of this post. Such a no-brain gametype.

Keep your eyes on the prize. With such dilligent practice you should soon be able to win a 2v2 faceit cup.

Using your logic, it's more complex than TDM where you simply have to kill the other team's players more than they kill you :)


I personally wouldn't say there is much difference in skill-ceiling between the 2 game modes.

imho tdm is kinda deeper, because of the limited resources that teams have to share that's why I like it much more. in ctf there's plenty of weapons, powerups (depending on the map of course) and shiet. obviously focus is being put on a different objective in both modes, but I find the challenge presented by tdm more compelling both to play and watch. but that's just me. not like it matters anyway. whatever floats your boat.

I agree whatever you like best, then just go with it. But it made me think about what are the different challenges and interesting aspects of each mode and I came up with the following:

1) Duel: What makes this so complex even though there are less players than in team games is precisely because there are only 2 players. This means your opponent's full concentration is entirely focused on you and only you. Every action they take is to kill you and steal your resources - your resources not your team's but yours, Any mistake you make, you pay for. In team games your opponents can be distracted and focused on your team mates, and if you make a mistake sometimes a team mate can save the situation. In duel you can apply complex tactics or imaginative ones because you can implement it exactly regardless of whether it is successful or not because you don't have to coordinate an entire team to implement the selected tactic. In team games the tactics are simpler, but more complex to implement because they need to be implemented as a team.

2) TDM: Implementing tactics as a team is complicated even if the tactics themselves are not very complex. The challenges are all about the team play, limited resources and sharing these in the most effective way possible to maintain a better stacked, better armed team than the opposition in order to frag more and die less, to be able to control specific zones in the map, and be in a better position to prepare for the power ups.

3) CTF: Has the same challenge of implementing team tactics as TDM, but less on the resource management side, although this is still very important - e.g. stealing the opponents base power ups, ensuring your own base defender is stacked, sharing weapons and bringing key weapons like the LG and rail to your base defender. But there are more weapons about so this is generally not as crucial as it is in TDM. You can't really change this because if you reduced the weapon availability in CTF maps then the match would be over so quickly once one team went through a prolonged period of running around with MGs. In TDM a team can come back from that situation. And reducing the weapon availability goes against what is really exciting about CTF which is being able to break through a well organised and armed defense and escape back to your base through fantastic movement and imaginative tactics. And the contest between one or more skilled attackers and a skilled base defender is also quite deep at times. The role of the power ups and winning the power ups is very similar to TDM. But if there was one thing that reduced the technical challenge a little of CTF is that team damage is not enabled. I think it should be enabled by default. Most of the time it doesn't make a big difference, but I have tried it on servers occasionally and it reduces the amount of spam, and can lead to interesting situations where attempting to protect a flag runner can end up in a team kill...

@3: Cool thing about not having teamdamage that you can help the flagcarrier over mid with LG or any other weapon, should be used more/ or even practised more (however its very hard to have a teammate with you when you wanna cross mid.. :-)

to be honest, having the game be decided on the number of flag captures instead of frags leads to a lot more randomness, also what koz said about the ridiculous ammount of resources you have on each map is a big turndown for me. I just don't enjoy the gametype too much, and as you said talking about this is just pointless since everyone has their biased opinion and most likely won't care to listen to anyone else (myself included :-D).

I feel like I can't play duel serious anymore.... whenever I try to play at my max I feel like I'm playing against settings and not vs the players.

There are many small points that make me feel like that ingame... but it's subtle :(

This cup just like the tdm cup shouldn't have been scheduled on Saturday in the start of the holiday season as well. It is most likely the worst day to play a tournament on. The problem really is that Faceit doesn't have the resources to run two cups along side eachother, or two streams with two pairs of casters. We can't really complain about what we're being offered even though it might end up in not having as many players for each team cup as they potentially could.

i really do not comprehend this either, why the fuck do you have to have your invite only 12 people CA cup on thursdays and tdm/ctf team cups on saturdays when we begged to have them on thursdays for more signups and simply less grievance for the players?

it is simply so badly thought out and falls so short of what could have been, especially after the dust has settled after the tdm cup. oh well, everything else faceit has done so far is good but come on, the only thing i really wanted to do was play the tdm cups and get a great turnout and it turned to crap 8(

the point is they went in on level 6 cup raped teams that potentially could have gotten further with the level of opposition and now they're playing in highest level cup which proves that they didn't belong there last week in the first place. which I think isn't ok.

Well, there's plenty of that going on in Faceit since they got a mean average over all game types, people can throw\lose games in one gametype and lower their level and get in on playing tournaments below their level.

Well done to ins and DDK for upping their game considerably today even without knowing a lot about CTF. As suggested, they set up some binds to the top players and seem to have familiarised themselves with some of the CTF tactics. Well done guys, not on a par with Ischju, Zoot or Greased Scotsman CTF coverage but not bad \o/ - thanx.

Best moment for me was pyton's cap on ironworks vs PP. And the farmlife bit ofcourse.

I would have liked to see more than 3 maps (though i didnt watch the first games). Maybe force a certain mapschedule if there is a next. I bet there would be more close games on infinity for instance.

Also, well done ins and ddk. Btw, if you want to get that specfc and specpu bind to work, you have to put it in a config file, for example:

Specfc.cfg and only write "spec fc" in it. Then bind /exec Specfc.cfg to a button...works. Its the only reliable way to make that damn bind work.
