hmm if i'll ever get a nextgen console it'll be mostly for online gaming anyway (not fps ofc) like most sane people there. so what's the problem?

i think the problem is that it's an external dependency but it is also a dependency on backwards communication of an exclusive kind. so not only is the 'internet' itself is much, much, much, less dependable than your electricity provider, you depend on this particular company to continue to communicate to the device, and the device has to identify you.

i also only play multiplayer games, but this requirement is absolutely not a requirement for a single player game, so pretending it is, is some kind of a regression, selfishly taking something away from you, as a user.

yes, sure it's very unrealistic move but also very ballsy one, trying force their futuristic vision on everyone (probably not only microsoft's, many companies trying to do that, even goverments). but atm that's straight from science fiction, most people still not trust internet :)

The real threat is not being to play second-hand games.

That's debatable. Second-hand games provide no income whatsoever to developers (nor publishers). I can see two points in favor of second-hand limitations :

- Without second-hand, there would likely be an increase in first-hand sales and thus more money for game companies. Hopefully, they may be able to do better games with that.

- Without the second-hand market to mess things up, the demand would become much more elastic. That could theoretically lead to a decrease in first-hand games' prices.

Of course there are many arguments against it as well. Just wanted to show it's not necessarily completely evil.

Ownership gives the owner plenty more rights than when just having a license or renting. More than a current issue this is a mid-term threat, with gaming having policies similar to microsoft products and worse.
