Ok: reading a book, polishing nails, watching tv, talking on the phone, listening to an mp3 player - all at the same time, and NONE of analytical processess are involved into any of these tasks. Plus they pretty much fail in every task while "multitasking" like this. Even the nail design/polishing (when they aren't concentrated completely on this, they fail). I'm talking of real women, u can check it out with YOUR women anyday.

On the other hand - counting 2-3 timers, analyzing/reconfiguring tactics every 3-5 seconds, predicting hits/enemy movement, thinking a few steps ahead and (in case of uberpro) mutiplying all these by 2 (at the very least) in order to predict your opponent's thoughts and actions - that's what I call 'multitasking with analytical process involved'. It applies to any area of human activities, not only competitive games.

Men and women are different, we have different set of skills and different goals to satisfy ourselves. Female quake or, let's say, cs looks as indescribably stupid as female boxing or soccer - it has no attractiveness by skill, only by tits and asses. And it's good.

Quick info says all upper and lower brackets games are bo3, but full rules says lower bracket is bo1.

Also, why is no tournament using bo7 :( especially with the double elimination system where one of the finalists already will be down by one.

I think the portion of competitive players is possibly much higher in QL. No players are there because the game isn't fun (or accessible) to newbies, not because the players don't play in tournaments.

it's different for sure. for me it puts the sensory overload that a quake match already is into higher gear, elevates good plays into fucking amazing plays and so on and if the game escalates well my mind gets really blown. I can't say I recommend it though, because if you're not well practiced (if you know what I mean) you can easily loose focus, fix yourself on some stupid shit and miss all the good stuff. depends on a person. and weed

CALLING OUT STREAMERS!

How many games will you stream? One game from each round, or will the players be set to wait so you'll be able to stream more games?

It makes sense you won't be able to stream them all, but would be nice if you selected two good match ups from each round for the first few rounds, and made them play after each other, so we get the most of this very AWESOME tournament. :)

And from 3rd round and forward, all games should be streamed imo. :P

cooke - any rules that players should submit demos? A huge demo pack with all povs would be very welcome!

And thanks for doing this, just what Quake needs, together with the awesome sunday cups.

Considering recent activity, the most probable scenario for top3 (in any order) is Evil-Pavel-Cooller. Along with demon-strenx-killsen ability to swing anywhere in top3. Cypher and Avek r just too random skillwise right now. They can hit high or drop out of frustration or ping flukes.

Agent buddy has just fucked up his 2nd prize - he could easily take it up there, considering his enormous chessmate playstyle improvement (for enlightenment go to 125fps recent vods, especially his yesternight 'enter the dragon' showdown vs killsen on silence).
Like QIIIA arbiter used to say, back in the days: "Gladiator's goal is to get the most frags or KILLS"- Agent does reach this exact goal anytime.

But even without Kolyan of Kaluga the playerlist looks as beautiful as a kg of pure cocaine (if rapha confirms commentating - it's 2 kg).

I had the unluckiest games in a while and I'm pissed. If I'm pissed that means I cared; yeah I cared, I prepared my mind and game for this cup for weeks now and I needed to say that.

I also fail to see where and how I have disrespected the admins or showed bad sportsmanship toward my opponents. Obviously that's just you talking out of your ass and beeing a troll.

Sorry, I'm having a really hard time connecting the dots here...

How can playing ztn 3 times, aero 3 times and dm6 once in a cup that you have supposedly been "preparing your mind and game for weeks" be considered a painful experience? Are these your weak maps? Did you think it wasn't necessary to practice them? Or no matter how much you practice on them you just can't seem to improve?

In order to achieve results, you need to be strong on all the maps, amirite?. If you are going into a cup fully aware that the mappool features maps you are weak on, how can you be surprised or even angry when you don't achieve good results? Surely this was more or less what you were expecting, when going into a cup with this mappool? Was it really such a surprise? How long have you been playing quake?

I think the problem is that cups don't mix up the mappools enough, so when an "unorthodox" mappool comes along (no t7 or hektits? ARMAGEDDON IS HERE) some people just feel lost. This is a bad habit, cups should mix up mappools more often, players should get used to all combinations of maps, and whining about mappools should be universally frowned upon, provided no maps that are universally regarded as bad maps are included.

In this case, no maps that are universally regarded as bad have been included in the mappool, so your mappool whine should be frowned upon.

However, in reality, whine of all shapes and sizes is accepted behaviour in this day and age. This is my problem, and fuck that.

If you feel I am still missing some critical point, please explain. And as far as I know, hektik is just as "hated" as dm6.

This is mostly about playstyles I guess.

Are these your weak maps? Did you think it wasn't necessary to practice them? Or no matter how much you practice on them you just can't seem to improve?

This is the closest to the right answer Id give, I think I played a very fair amount of ztn, and I have played a ton of every map that has ever been in official ql mappools, bar probably maps like battleforged. I never go into a map thinking I'm gonna lose, atleast not anymore. Might have done that before. But you can not ignore the fact that every player has its favourites, no matter how much you practise every other map.

I don't think I whine so much, I think this time I was really frustrated and I overreacted clearly, I just needed to let go of that frustration by writing my state of mind on the mappool. I may have said it in a rather agressive manner which I regret now.

Still think you overreacted on me aswell :)

Well mappools must change, and imo currently they aren't changing enough. ztn, t7, dm6, t9, aero, t4, silence, dismemb, dm13, tox, hektik, and some others I probably forgot should all be rotated into cup's mappools in equal proportions, and the mappools should change as frequently as possible. I would even go as far as having a different mappool for each Sunday FaceIt! It should have been like this since the beginning.

Having the mappools remain practically the same over the years has given way to people having really strong favourite maps (as opposed to just "favourite"). This is bad, it creates dependencies and in your case no t7 or hektits was your achilles heel. This mappool was an unfortunate scenario for you personally, but a step in the right direction for QL and maybe a wakeup call for mappool deciders and players alike :p

Yeah, I overreacted, but it was the last straw and I used you as a scapegoat. No hard feelings, it's just everyday I see whine whine whine whine whine and it's mostly of an unnecessary, thoughtless or disrespectful nature... and mappool whine really rustles my jimmies precisely because of how I believe mappools should work.

Basically, I think it's high time the QL community changed it's mentality towards mappools: They should change more often, all viable maps rotated in equal amounts, and frequently. A mappool without t7 should pass by unnoticed, not cause a shitstorm.

everchanging mappool is a place when random results are born.

personal opinion: everymappool should have ztn,dm13,t7 in... you can change fast maps as much as you want, its not like you need any skill on them, except constant 60pc rail

T7 is as overplayed as ztn/dm6/dm13/aero nowdays, I like if for a change that the map isn't in the map pool.

And as if etty, seven, matrox, baksteen or you loses on those old map because oldschool rest have a shitload more experience on them than you guys, oh please.

I said guard was good and was in shape and I even said I hope he keeps this up and keep winning. Guard said himself he was lucky (especially vs avek, Ive heard).

Luck is not a swearword no matter how you put it, it's a fact. And when you get an initial spawn like I got on dm6 vs matrox, it cant be anything but luck, or can it ? I'd like to hear your take on that. Might aswell flip a coin to decide who gets the lead + full control... As for me saying "0 skill required", I didnt mean matrox was unskilled, I meant he doesn't need this kind of ridiculous initial spawn to be a worthy opponent... I like matrox and I respect him a lot, I would never go personal against him and I know he knows that. I don't know who you are anyway and I don't expect you to know what kind of relationships I have with every player, but I'd like you to keep away from commentating anything if you have 0 grasp of the context.

Ok guys, now u will learn not to whine at FaceIT team about lags starting fucking up streams closer to every QL-competition finals - it's some shitty twitch config fault, maybe just a policy to let dota/lol brainless crowd flourish happily on the max bandwidth (they have >100 000 viewers everytime, which is $$$ for twitch), whereas QL gets a kick into stomach.

Guard use a proxy for fake ping and whine during 20 mn for play in PL server. With that he play first map with ping 45 and strenx 75. But listen other comment if you want. My argument is too typé "Français" :)

Killsen's epilepsy is totally unwatchable. My heart is always with those against killsen just because I hate seeing those farts of mouse movement killsen's pulling off constantly.

He's one of the top uberpros, no doubt, but trying to like his playstyle is like trying to like an ugly nervous kid who's constantly spitting in your face and jitterbugs alltimes...

No offense kills, u r still uberpro, we just have to have a QL update which completely disables your pov. Then maybe our hearts will go on loving you, bro.

This whole adoption of the RTS style "gg/quit" culture is one of the worst things that happened when QL came to be the main Quake title. It's bullshit.
If you are behind by 10-15 frags after 3 minutes, then at least have the decency to let your opponent rape you 40:0.

You're request would only be valid if any and all quitting, before the time limit hits, would be banned in all tournaments.

Rage quit (or just quit before time is up) = no price money. Simple.

Then again if the price money is not big they just wouldn't care.

And if there is no price money at all there is nothing you can do.
Nobody is gonna ban a name like Cypher from their tournament.

(With a no-name nobody really cares if they (rage)quit anyway.)

Also forcing people to continue playing when they want to quit will result in some interesting scenarios like players just standing there not moving waiting till time is up. You wanna watch that?

Quitting is quitting. I'm all for quitting, well actually I'm for not trying at all, but not in quake, if only for the sole purpose of pissing people off.

5 minutes is nothing, you can still try or just warm-up for the next map. Do some mad rushes and try to get frag movie material or whatnot, it might throw your opponent of a bit.

Though the new 10 minute time limit puts very strict limitations to what can and cannot be done. In Quake 3 a duel started after the 10th minute.

Really dissapointing finals, after alot of amazing games. Especialy enjoyed the guard vs pavel and pavel vs evil games.

I don't understand what cypher is thinking, some guy puts in a lot of money for a big online tournament, casters and admins work hard for good viewers experience, so the least u can do is play your best out of respect for everyone. Definitely not as big of a Cypher fan anymore.

ye alot of great games and the casting seems to be steady at a very high level aswell.. congrats.

It's really surprising to see this and then be faced with the reality that quake is such an unpopular game.. makes me wonder if Id software people are watching this effort from the community ? I hardly doubt.

The final was crap but for some reason cypher seems to be really upset when he plays evil which is not that hard to understand because evil tarded style (not in a bad way) clashes alot with his style.. much like cooller doesn't like to play cypher and almost always loses to him.

I missed all the games but what the fuck cypher? Is he struggling with puberty? Maybe it kicked in a couple months ago.

It's the final of a cup & one with the biggest online pot in a long time. Even if you play shit you should play until the end. Before czm raped cooller something like 52-6 on hub; cooller still played it until the end & that wasnt even a final.

During last games some spectator claimed in game chat that cypher isn't playing well because he is satisfied with 2nd place money or that he shared prize money with evil. It (with combination of other things) outraged him to quit.

I think, all spectator chat (except team chat) during tourney games must be prohibited because it may distract players.

I'll tell you guys what happened.

Cypher was setting up really good mind fuck plays and either had lag which fucked up the timing of the items and his moves or couldn't finish evil off after executing his plays.

First Rage.

2nd Rage is when evil was rushing him down and lging him. People just DO NOT do that versus cypher. It's unknown to him, strenx/tox/stermy/av3k tried that shit before and it shouldn't work on cypher because of his combat skills. However this evil fucker is russian + aimer, so its a totally different. Cypher can't hit him as hard as he can everyone else because evil has russian dodge, very nasty lg aim and av3k's smart rush tactics.

So that is fucking annoying.

3rd Rage is cypher himself. Usually his rockets are amazing, but in those games he got out rocketed A LOT. That is really the crux of the matter. 'Nigga stole my fuckin' signature move' is what cypher was thinking.

All that combined = Cypher rage! And I don't blame him, evils play style is fucking really annoying. (and effective)

What a great online tournament!

You guys put together a great show and the play along with the casting was outstanding!

I'm slowly becoming an Evil fan, he's a beast online!

Zoot, my hats off to you sir! To get Rapha to show up on his birthday and have the addition of Jahar was spectacular! Yes, ins was a pleasant surprise on the mic as well.

strenx was outplayed by gaurd, but I'm still hanging in there with you strenx! With that being said, you have to practice a bit more in order to keep up with the Russians and even some of the rising stars such as guard, demon, fraZe! Ofcourse cooller is cooller! Even at 60 percent you were outstanding! Av3k and cypher will be up for the task next go round. The 7 or so hours I spent watching this tournament, was well worth it!

his dodging is quite good though imho. i played him a few times in ctf and duel. he got very fast left-right mouse movements, can dodge nades well but overexposes himself too much at times.

I kinda disagree with the finals not being good. I'm a big MMA fan, and I love to see a submission.
Evil had Cypher so discombobulated with his play, that Cypher had to "TapOut". It's like a chess player tipping over his King.

many peoples have already noticed it, it's not a recent trend, but that's the kind of reactions you got from the hypocrytes, and so it's better to stay silents, right?

Anyway, Evil's abuse of wallhacking is pretty obvious even without watching the demos, it is noticeable in the final vods vs Cypher; he's not the only one using it, of course one could say that is impossible to find proofs of a wallack, but if you watch it you cannot be surprised by many prediction shots and "random" watches through walls... but, hey, we are talking of cheating in an official match? No way it can be accepted under the light of the sun... impossible! What a scandal it would be... only that is exactly what it is.

It's like boxe, or any other professional sport for what matter; almost every boxer uses some kind of PEDs, sometimes it is more obvious, sometimes less; but still blood tests are regularly passed by the 99% of the fighters, and the major part of peoples get upset whenever someone is accused of being on peds.... hypocrisy and hypocrisy, because it's so obvious that it requires an active use of will to "not notice" it; it's enough to not be naive.

But since too many peoples here knows more than what they likes to say, i would have avoided saying that ( i actually like evil, and i admire his common sense in lowering his sens; other pros should take example; and evil is definitely not the only one using whack);

Only that it is annoying to hear the great Cypher being accused and mocked for something that's not his fault.

Why do you think he can go the distance and score comebacks against Cooller, Rapha and Av3k, but he ragequits against inconsistent online stars? Give the man more credit, and notice that he never acted that way just some years ago, not even when he actually was just a kid.

Believe what you believe, or better, don't believe what you don't want to believe, but wallhacks are well used in those online cups, since the Zotac's ones at least;
and since i don't like to waste time with peoples desperates to defend their little word, i won't be bothered to endlessly reply on this argument.

Again, believe what you want, but the use of wallhacks is pretty obvious in a lot of matches.

A few things for your consideration:

1. Evil has been playing Q3/QL longer than any other currently active player, and he has been playing at the highest fucking level for more than any of us can be fucked to remember. He has roflstomped both Rapha and Cypher on LAN, but even without winning dreamhack he would still be ranked within World top3 as of 2013. Not to mention the countless ASUS and other LAN top3 results he has achieved over the years, competing with and ranking high amongst the greatest russian quake players.

This man has been playing Quake for almost half of his life. He knows Quake. I'll say it again in case it didn't sink in. Evil. Knows. Quake. He's played more duels than times you've masturbated. And that's a lot of duels. Ever wondered what the definition of OLD SCHOOL is? Evil is motherfucking old school. Evil is the definition of Old School, if he were in the army he would make Kilgore look like a fucking noob. You can't even begin to concieve the vast combat and situational awareness that this man possesses. Do you understand the implications of this has on individual combat scenarios?

2. You cannot judge a professional Quake player's skill or results judging by their performance against "inconsistent online stars". Everybody knows that professional Quake players practice new/different tactics during prac games, often resulting in loss or quit. Cooller is famous for this, as are many others. When he scores comebacks against against Cooller, Rapha and Av3k in competitions, he's playing to win. When he loses against online nobodies, he's practicing. He's a professional. PROFESSIONAL. Pros practice. Sure, QL doesn't give anyone enough income anymore to be able to consider it as a "profession", but semantics aside, Evil is a motherfucking pro, and he's had it in him for years.

3. Guess what? Evil is active. He beats inactive pros, what a surprise.

Except this is not true. This is just something fanboys made up to rationalize their 'heros' losing. If anything evil is less active right now than all of the pros in this tournament (except maybe strenx who isn't completely inactive either).
