Happens quite a lot here (especially with knowing the exact time), I think its a combination of routine, luck and being consciously aware of things when you think you are "sleeping".

I reckon we only use a fraction of our brains for the most part, but sometimes are able to tap into a greater part of it by luck and because it seems so much more advanced that what we normally do with it, we don't really believe it when it happens, and cos it happens so rarely, we can never draw a conclusion from it.

When you're in a semi conscious state (just before you wake up in the morning-or afternoon if you're an E-bum), you are probably closer to tapping into that potenial. Almost like you're hyponotised, too tired to wake up, but not enough to be in a deep sleep and that is when you're really vulnerable to this sort of stuff.

That's also the state of mind hyponotists try to put you in, so I think its defintely related.

I won tons of FFA's within 5minutes. But that doesn't mean I'm better than anyone else who finishes 1st in a different ffa within 6mins.

He played the same map, you're probably referring to dm6 with two quad runs, in which case 5-6 mins is easy.

This was an uncommon map, with no quad while at about 50-60% of my ability from when i stopped playing 5-6 years ago.

Cooller took two minutes longer and this was a few weeks before he won INTEL EUROPE, so he was in amazing shape.

This is nearing world record time for this map.

The map doesn't make frags it's done by you and your opponents. A different set of opponents cannot be compared to another set of opponents (in ffa).

Also I'm just refering to any map which has weapons and enough opponents. I don't usualy take quad in ffa because I like a bit of a challange.

You're right. It can't be coincidence. You must have supernatural abilities surpassing any theoretically applied explanation by science studies today. In fact, you must belong in a type 3+ civilization, and my question is as such: What the fuck are you doing on our planet, or in our dimension even, you motherfucker?!


.. So anyway, your brain works fast during sleep, both REM and non-REM. Faster than your immediate consciousness. Your mind is more likely to be affected when you are woken up from REM / deep sleep, in such a way that you may feel like your dream predicted the future, when in fact you heard the sound and thus your brain in an instant 'made up' a dream of said situations made to fit.

This is why scientific research speculate, that, when a person is dying, during the 7 or so minutes it takes for the brain to completely, irreversibly shut down, you will experience a dream long enough to fit what could seem like a whole lifetime.

I too have had the same dreams. I also have had many episodes of deja vu where I could've sworn I had 'experienced' something before it actually happened. A deja vu experience is the same as the dream experience; your brain works faster than your immediate consciousn self, and as a result you feel as if you predicted/experienced a future event.
For instance, have you ever thought that you knew the future BEFORE you had the feeling of knowing it?

I had a deja vu/dream experience back in the day. I was sure I had been playing the Daikatana demo, but when the demo actually came out, I was stumped because I was so sure I had been playing it.

I've had many other experiences like this, but none of them top the one I had about dreaming that Michael Jackson had died, and when I woke up, sure enough, the TV was on and the news reported that Michael Jackson had died.

Don't put too much thought into it. It is coincidence and.. Well, science.

If anything, try and instead use your cognitive 'abilities' by interrupting your REM sleep, which is about 4 hours into your sleep, but most effectively you could do it maybe 1 hour before you normally wake up. Get up, walk around a bit, ask yourself if you are dreaming, and how you can know if you are dreaming or not. When you've been walking around and asking yourself these questions out loud, lie down again, set the alarm to start when you normally have to wake up. From this point on, you should fall asleep while telling yourself - in your mind - that you can control your dreams, and you know how you can tell if you are dreaming or not. How can you tell if you are dreaming? Good of you to ask. If you 'wake up' and feel as if you may be dreaming; turn on or off the lights. If the light doesn't turn on or turn off, you're probably dreaming. Try making yourself fly. If you're not positive if it's just you failing to master electrical finesse, then try and look at your alarm clock. Is it showing numbers or is it just 'blotted' out? If it's blotted out weirdly, flashing or whatever, you're dreaming. Finally; try looking in a mirror. If you see yourself, thats just fine, you may or may not be dreaming, but if what behind you is blurred, or even weirdly colored or whatever your mind can make happen, you're dreaming. If you DON'T see yourself in the mirror, well, then you're dreaming too.

When you've established that you're dreaming, start manipulating stuff. For instance, start your computer, join a QL server that I am on and own me as I did you. Make yourself fly. Drink rum and coke with Lady Gaga in a fishing boat, while making sweet love to an ashtray made of beef, or whatever.

This is called lucid dreaming. Dreams that are controlled by you, consciously. It is a very effective way of getting to know yourself, experiencing things you may never experience, and generally to make you realize that science is in fact awesome for revealing these states of sleep to be the most effective ones in regards to manipulating your own mind.

It's actually quite easy to trick the brain into believing one event occurred before the other, when the opposite is true.

I have experienced the phenomenon you are describing countless times. My favorite was when I was in high school and sleeping in class, and in the dream someone threw a television at me, the moment it hit me I was instantly awaken. The teacher had slammed a book down next to my head to wake me up.

I'm sure a term exists for this phenomenon, but I do not know it.

this isn't dreaming.. pretty sure it's hearing or seeing things before your brain can catch up with what's happening so there's some time seperation and considering you just woke up your brain is just booting =)

it's like when you hear windows start upsound before you are actually in windows.. maybe my computer sees into the future :|

thats because your brain's in dream mode and any outside signal gets incorpoarted into your dream before your brain can acually wake up and go into conscious mode.

but what's more impressive is how I wake up at 7:59:50 to turn off my alarm before it starts ringing at 8:00. if I had that timing in quake I'd beat rapha any day.

Same. The ability to wake up just before the alarm goes off continues to amaze me.

This has happened to me a few times. I remember dreaming that something was about to open my room door and then my mother ended up opening it and I woke up. After analysis I realized I probably subconsciously heard her footsteps coming up to the door and the dream seemed to revolve around that. (In the dream itself whatever was going on I had anticipated the door opening about 20 seconds before it actually happened)

The other time was a sad story. In my dream I was talking to my grandfather on the phone and then he just went silent. Oddly enough in the dream I knew exactly what it meant, that he passed. Next thing I knew I woke up to my father coming in my room and I immediately knew he was in fact gone. I supposed I could have subconsciously heard the phone ring and the conversation on it that took place while I was asleep and incorporated it into the dream but I mean really.... who knows. It seemed like I dreamed it way before it actually happened.

I took some special pills to sleep, the team of sleepers watching the whole process really closely, and then when I think I finally slept, I was leaving in Wales, with sheep all around, then all the sheep started to grow to have gigantic size and then the sheep started to curb around me, rising up and encircling me like I was inside a sphere made by sheep
then I woke up, I looked around and I was like "fuck, no bafta for me today!"
