U serious? If you want to play magic, get yourself the REAL TCG and not some online-client. Magic is ment to be played with friends at a table not trough the internetz.

We used to buy them for the cool artwork and played by our own rules baked as monkeys. Good times!

almost everyone i encountered at shop where everyone bought cards and traded played by some flawed rules, that itself wouldnt be a problem but usually they did not believe that they were wrong cause all of their friends played by the same flawed rules

If you're going to use an online client, why not use Apprentice? While it's not the most pretty to look at, it is wonderfully functional, with the ability to handle any custom rules/mechanics that you could possibly need.

i just picked the first one i heard about to play with rl mates. i'll give that one a go too though :)

The only down side to it is that it is almost entirely manual, so if you intend to use it with someone who has never played before, you're pretty much going to have to explain everything. There is also no card art (in order to keep it legal), so some people don't like it. On the plus side, the manual control allows you to take full advantage of unglued/unhinged mechanics. =P

I haven't used the software in almost 10 years, so I don't know if there have been any major changes.

Whenever I see the new stuff they add I just think it looks like they are desperately trying too hard to add new crazy shit to the game every new set.

i remember back in 2003 when mirrodin was released with the new layout, a lot of players in our group quit magic :(

Just got back into Magic a few days ago, what a coincidence. No online client can give you the joy of the real card game but MWS is better client with larger playerbase. Also the official Magic Online free trial is great way to learn the game because all actions are automatic and you can't fuck up anything.
