In other games everything is totally normal! I'm puzzled.

Such a thing happened before, although not to such an extent. In the beta period I got to see slightly psychedelical elements on the maps for a while, however, that was easily fixable by vid_restart (sometimes it took a couple of times, though). But that was really long ago. And now all the textures and letters are like that, and it can't be fixed at all. :\

My card is ok with other games, though. Only QL is like this.

I can't access the menu very well, because it's impossible to see what's written on it.

Another thing that could be important (or not): the weapon model is totally ok, it looks like it should. The weapon effects like the shaft beam are ok, too.

Well, do a search for a pro's config like from skilleys config selection - http://www.esreality.com/download.php?file_id=78256

\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3

Delete/backup your config
Delete autoexec.cfg
Delete qzconfig.cfg
Delete repconfig.cfg
put your choice of pro's config into \id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3
and then start a paractise duel. exec pros config, vid_restart,

See if that does a change!!
If success.
writeconfig qzconfig

While it's similar indeed, r_mapoverbrightbits wouldn't affect the HUD elements. This looks more like a driver issue, or some data corruption (e.g.: rams)

Try running that and see if it comes up with any errors, it really does look like the gpu ram, have you tried Q3 or other id3 engine games to see if you get the same result?

Quake 3 has similarly "damaged" graphics, indeed! Although other games are ok, maybe it's an opengl problem? I wonder if that means that it's connected to drivers.

That didn't help, but I found out that q3 looks similar after launching it, so it must be something opengl-related. Other games that look ok use directx.

I never knew I'd miss ql that much, they say you understand what you had only after it's lost :)

Instal Latest drivers for your Graphics card.

Also ensure that the resolution you are using in Quakelive is somthing which you are able to get in windows mode. i.e. resolution plus display refresh rate and colorbits.
