Remember that it only shows how many players are playing at any one time. WoW has roughly 1,000,000 players online at all times, but they quote over 10,000,000 subscribers total. This won't be the case across all games, but it's certainly going to be higher than what you see at any immediate point.

soon everyone will play WoW and WoW clones ...
a game where you actually have to build up real skill is too frustrating ... just like the school degrees ... in germany nowadays everyone gets abitur, because nowadays you are lost without it on the jobmarket, so schools have to lower the requirements in order to make everyone get it ... even people that can't read and calculate get the abitur nowadays ... that is what the world is coming to ... can't do anything about it ... anyway 50 years from now we are ruled by artificial intelligence ... then you don't need to do anything anymore, because AI is better than you ... no academics, nothing is needed anymore... and sportmuscles can probably bought in some shop, so you also don't even need to train ... brave new world
