It's every Quake player's dream to play in the MLG... after all, the MLG is the MLB of baseball.

MLG can eat a cock for all I care. They should be acquiring us, not the other way around. Maybe they should add more lame console games, that will certainly gain them favor among kids and other naive jackasses.

For all players. Paid Cash Tournaments will only be for U.S. because of gambling laws in the US.

Neither partygaming nor bwin are american companies though, partygaming is from Gibraltar and bwin from Austria. Wouldn't be a big problem to offer the service in Europe anyways as the EU is quite liberal when it comes to gambling laws, except for Germany of course :P

Biggest problem for MLG here would be the "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act" from 2006 which was built on some outdated laws that were in place to prevent illegal sports betting via telephone. Problem is that the responsibility to check if the money was earned legally lies with the bank, so a lot depends on whether or not the bank is willing to play ball.

I don't quite know exactly how the situation for companies from the US is though as most online gambling sites aren't located in the US for the reasons given, even the ones accepting US Players (Pokerstars - Isle of Man, Full Tilt Poker - Aruba etc.)

I just don't think it's worth the hassle for gamebattles to do that kind of thing, especially not for buy-in videogame tournaments which have time after time been proven not to be successful. Don't know if console kids are dumb enough for that kind of thing though.

This is great news for north american quake. MLG may be console centric but they are easily the most well established esports organization in the United States right now (Especially after CPL/WSVG died a painful death).

I'm looking forward to success in this leading into actual events at MLG tournaments which would help end the massive quake lan drought in NA.

Hate on MLG all you want, but they proved that they cant stay alive. which is a good thing. They may be console centric in the passed, but with starcraft 2, they are actually giving the champion player $50k. which is more than what a halo player can get ($25k per person).

and i suggest making a combined pro-pool with Blood Run and Furious Heights, and not mixing it with maps, that are long gone from tournaments.

I think E-sports needs to have some legitimacy skill wise in order to move forward on a path similar to competitive poker or other mentally challenging sports. The MLG doesn't represent that legitimacy. Its fine to host games for the sake of profit if your ultimate goal is to support the sport of competitive gaming, but not if your goal is purely profit. Not all of us are born athletes, and E-sports represent a modern day competitive outlet for us and we respect it as such. But whats the sense in moving it forward if we kill the legitimacy ?

Good luck Gamebattles.com... I'd join and play but I just can't make myself like 1v1 :) Team Nx shall be present for any TDM activity of course.

Also I'm usually for playing the lesser known / played maps but t6 isn't even appropriate for 1v1ing in todays QL gameplay... its a 2v2 map. I agree with the outcry for -t6 +t9, especially since the snobby Quake type doesn't need much incentive to thumb their nose at something...

Also, pros will never join this (and imo thats a good thing, at least until divisions can be built) for a multitude of reasons... so I'd stop holding your breathe on that :)

I'm pretty sure they have a system where a person who is 33-0 cannot see a persons match on matchfinder who is 0-0 or 0-33.

In response to the European ladder suggestion, I've spoken with GB staff, and they suggested an option in the match finder/challenge for NA or Euro. How do Europeans feel about that option?

Or there's still the option for a separate European ladder all together.

My own personal opinion is if a separate ladder was made, will it alienate the community? If not, then I say lets go for it.

imo eu should get separate ladder since we cant challange across atlantic :)
also, it wouldnt have anything with alienating the community, since euros dont play on american servers anyway, also bringing this sort of ladder for europeans would add some additional competition features, which is quite obvious, crossing fingers for that.

If enough people want a TDM ladder, GB would be willing to do it.

There's no future for any of these organizations. The millisecond pro-gaming becomes profitable enough, the companies who own the games will stop allowing third-parties to use their games for such purposes. At that stage, the owners will take over the entire pro-gaming aspect of their games. I just wish they'd do it now. The fastest way between two points is a straight line. The sooner game companies start running the pro-gaming portion themselves, the better off we will all be.

In the case of MLG, I have a special dislike. Let's just say... they use a console controller as their 'pro-gaming' logo and leave it at that. The fact they stole the name 'MLG' from Major League Baseball only compounds their other crimes. So, MLG, have fun disappearing into the anals of history... and no, that isn't a typo.

This pro-gaming stuff must already be profitable, otherwise these organizations wouldn't be doing it. Why then doesn't id run their own show? If they were committed to making pro-gaming work, they would be more successful than third-parties because they control the game itself.

In other sports, no one owns the sports. That enables the organizers to make whatever rules they want. In esports, the organizers have to rely on whatever the game companies choose. If the organizers are the game companies, the formula is complete. They can design the game, and the competitions, to an optimal state.

just to remind everyone, there was exactly the same thing coming up in UT3 when everyone thought UT3 would pick up and be the 'next best duel game' and the GAMEBATTLES LADDER is exactly what it sounds like: A LADDER.

The competition on this ladder is pretty intense. My record sucks, but of all the players I've competed against in matches, everyone is really good!
