they've started dm13, sparta had taken the lead (strenx drop'd to lava), and after this (~30sec), when sparta had everything (like 200/200), strenx call'd the timeout cause of "sound fuck'd up", and after this reconnect'd to "solve them".

Did they give sparta any advantage or just straight restart?

well, firstly they play'd second map (t7, sparta won), and after a long pause they admins decided to restart dm13, but only if strenx will rush lava to get "-1".
after the game (strenx won it easily), sparta said that he didnt get same control as he got at the first time, and the same things.

Did strenx just disconnect? I can see how spartazord would feel hard done by if they replayed dm13 after the second map, having already given him default win for first.
I should watch VOD I guess to find out what exactly went on.

I totally agree in principle, but since ESL has rules for disconnects in the first place it means they consider technical problems a valid excuse for replaying a game. I don't see a great difference between a router problem and a non-working sound, mouse or keyboard. Such problems have already happened in ESL lan's, with no forfeit, i'm pretty sure? The only way to avoid players cheating is putting the responsibility of technical glitches entirely on the players that suffer from them. It wouldn't have been difficult for strenx to simply unplug his cable and fake a 999. These rules are way to easy to exploit.

Then again it was apparent from strenx's pregame chat that he knew he was having sound problems, which is all the more reason to force him to go on or forfeit the game.

I still don't understand how you think that getting ONE frag before strenx's sound messed up makes it so that you deserve the WIN. Especially after you lost the same map with almost full control and a 1-frag lead. Doesn't sound like you deserve a win to me. The point is mental strength. The admin decision threw Spartazord totally off of his zone. One can argue that he ended up playing much worse than he would have. The opposite can be said about Strenx, who was down one map with a fucked-up start of the second, but got blessed by the admin decision.

Then ofc you can see being emotional as a weakness of Spartazord, but that is quite understandable given the situation. The point is, the admin decision is very questionable.

Personally, I can see many reasons to be willing to qualify for an event with zero chances of winning. For a new player, just to arrive there is a huge accomplishment. Then there is the learning component, both in game and lan experience.

I agree to those who say that beating stronger players should be done the proper way, and not by receiving defwins, but that debate is rather about the admin choice than what the players want.

I rarely go to esreality, but I have to explain (it's normal I think ):
First of all, I didn't really know about the disconnect, it started at 0:20 and the only way to get sound back ( in my mind ) was to reconnect. I mean, even if I called an admin, it would be the same then I would have to reconnect. I've tried snd_restart but it doesn't work.
However, I understand spartaz0r, I would be angry as well, but unfortunately, I'm not the admin and I don't decide myself. At start, I tried to be fair and asked to give him 5 frags difference. But they didn't accept. I couldn't do better.

But the ESL rules are clear. You can't do your own desidions without admin permision. In general, strenx reconnected becose of bad start (who can prove sound problems?... I know I know...). If he didn't waited admins, he was need to get SPARTAZORD permision to do that. Spartie got punished by it in LAN tourney.
Rules are rules. Admins making troubles for future shit. Now we gonna see same shit (I am gonna use it ofcors) and noone gonna make bad desidion, becose we saw first example. You piss your enemy a lot and getting a better momentum after such RR.
And spartazord is weaker player , we all know, so this win could motivate that kid and for strenx , it's just nothing.

today i m definetely more calm and i m gonna try explain what happened .
He joined my server (after a shitload of windows restart like 4 in 5 mins ) and we started to play dm13 .
Before we called the vote for the map he already started to whine about audio that wasnt working etc (made a lot of reconnect) .
He finally fixed it NOT reconnecting ( even tho after he told me "i fixed it", he reconnected anyway he gotta love restarting things ).

So, we started playing dm13 and i was feeling really confident, managed to kill him first min and took control of everything but then he called timeout coz he somehow got audio problems again ( i m gonna assume from now that he REALLY got audio problems coz doesnt change the fact that i m the guy losing by this situation. ) . As most of u prolly know i m pretty new in the competitive scene . I play ql from almost 2 years but i have a good connection only from some months . I actually didnt know what to do and I tried to help him fix it without reconnecting . The told me that only reconnect would have fixed it . I was totally against that but he told me it was the only thing that could have done . then he told me "i give u 5 frags lead if i reconnect ", i didnt know what to say just wrote "k" and he reconnected . After that i wanted to speak with an admin to make this official (i got the demo so i thought would have been a good enough proof ) .

The situation with admins was REALLY messy . Xou was busy with fazz's game and noone was replying me . Xou after reading my version said that was clearly def win but wanted to speak with other admins. I waited almost 20 mins without knowing what to do with everyone( not admins) telling me " u get def win no way he quits midgame after he s losing etc " . I thought of other situations where this happened and figured out that has always been like this . I had to leave a lot of zotacs with my old connection that lagged . As trance proposed i asked if we were able to play second map meanwhile since they were looking a bit slow on the deciding . They agreed and i won t7 convincely .
After that strenx told me to join irc again and admins somehow totally changed their mind telling me that i should have played match again but with an advantage : he got to rush lava before playing . I was TOTALLY against that and complained a lot but there werent a lot of choices so very sadly i accepted hoping in a fair match that would have been just like the continue of the old one . This definetely wasnt and realizing this while playing made my prestation unexistent , i didnt think to the game a single time but just whined and thought about how unfair that was .
I really started to whine and lose my calm for this reasons :
1)This situation makes legit for everyone to just reconnect from a game where he s losing making a deal that wont be respected and getting a better situation just for that .
2) he takes ya before killing himself . This is totally against what sady said. She said u FIRST kill urself in lava than play the game normally . That didnt happen .
3) had to just rj to steal( which means an armor/hp lose) at lg ya since he was already respawning and could have easily taken ra if he spawned near it if i lost more time . Prolly he wouldnt have done that but i never practised a situation like this so i didnt want to dont even get control . This choice was definetely influenced by my rage and me not focusing on the game .
3) We had our first fight at 0 : 24 fighting for ya that he took before dieing .. this totally changed the game since that item shouldnt have spawned at 27 .
4)I started to realize that i didnt have even nearly the same stack or control that i had in first game.
5) i was thinking about playing defensive making him attack and eventually get more predictable but realized that he had 1 minute more than he should have got . Not saying that running away was an option but what if i lost the last minute for a frag??

All this conditions feeded my anger making me just raging badly ( never raged as that in my life for a game ) and not being able to play at all . i couldnt time one item or where he was i just thought i should have already won why am i doing this?? why am i now the guy that is in the worse situation while i shouldnt .

If u consider it all togheter , we were 1-0 maps for me with 1 map where he quitted mid game which i was pretty sure i would have got defwin . I felt like i had it ,my aim was feeling great ( 40 lg on t7 ) my mind game was solid, everything was going really well .
I lost confidence and everything and game went totally on the wrong direction not for my own mistake or anything but because he reconnected mid game . Why should i get punished for that? I m the guy in the losing situatuon on this story while i should be the one on the upper hand . The mach surely wouldnt have been the same if he didnt reconnect and i really cant understand why i should be the one suffering from it .

Some might say that it influenced strenx aswell and made him play bad in t7 but HE was the one doing a MISTAKE or having the problem NOT ME . ( assuming he did a mistake readyupping reconnecting and not just wanting to restart match coz was in a really bad situation).
This situation might lead to people just reconnecting in matches , something never seen and never heard in quake community afaik .
I know this is partially my bad . I shouldnt have got so much distracted by all what happened and i should have quitted right after he took ya . This surely will be a nice lesson for me to not get in the same situation for the future games .

Lastly i d like to say sorry to everyone for my rage that was definetely exaggerated .

have a + for a calm and detailed explanation of things from your side. You were unlucky this time, but keep your mind clear and move on. Admins will most likely learn something from this episode and next time things will go smoother (hopefully).

he is a cool guy after all but its like a 100 time he won something partly cos of beeing an asshole

[+]. Gl with the rest of the group, all things considered taking a map from strenx could well be the thing that puts you through, the group is wide open for sure.

Unfortunately, the rules and justice dont always walk the same path.

In this situation, we can probably agree that rules go your way but is it really fair ? Its not like ppl use this "trick" often, in fact, we didnt find the "exact" same configuration in the past. You too even admited that this is very likely that strenx wasnt lying about his sound problem. Admitting that he really had this problem, what would be "fair" to you ?

I'd also like to point out something relevent to me. YOU were the underdog in this match. Its very likely that strenx would beat you on a rematch. I understand you take this seriously and want to improve and beat top players like strenx but we both now this is not the way to do it. Whinning to get a defaut win beacause of the "rules" isnt classy, its lame. You want to beat strenx, do it the right way, the beautiful way, the way people gonna respect you.

And even tho I'm french I'm not a strenx fan, neither is maybe 90% of french quake community, and you know why ? Because strenx didnt won our respect by behaving like a stupid teenager, wasnt respecting anyone and surprisly had no respect in return. He even started quake in the most blatant form of disrespect for other players : cheating. (He seems to have matured more since this period but its gonna be a long time before he can erase this image from our memory)

I dont want to get a def win , i won my map convincely isnt like looking for a def win for no show or anything related . As it might look lame taking a win this way i find even more lame how he took the win ( nothing against him , situations led to that )

I have to ask you though. You're saying he quitted midgame? It was 34sec into the first map. How do you get that to "midgame"?

Second, I remember playing you in a zotac cup where I was winning on t9 vs you and you just disconnected. You then came back complaining about your connection. You said lets replay with me having my lead which was a few frags and us only playing the remaining time.

I agreed (just as you agreed to strenx) - where is the difference here.

You're complaining about having to drop from zotacs because of your bad connection/people forced you to leave or they didnt agree to replay - right?

BUT what im getting at here is that I agreed to replay - just as you did vs strenx. So why do you want people to be fair against or with you when you cant show good sportsmanship yourself?

Sady clearly said: "replay the game with strenx -1 and if spartazord agrees" and you agreed.

i agreed to the rule which was :
rush lava right after u spawn not take armor then rush lava.
didnt talk about sportmanship aswell never said its strenx fault he can reconnect midgame then dont follow rules etc ... not my problem as far as the right decision is taken on what he did . i m not angry with him .

What I am wondering is why noone is questioning Strenx seeming lack of integrity in the situation that occured.

1. Strenx and Spartazord agreed to the reconnect under the condition of "5-0". It's an agreement,
2. As soon as Strenx reconnects, he starts talking about which rules are applicable, suddenly forgetting about the agreement.
(Of course, here Spartazord seemed to push for a defwin)
3. Strenx, feeling that this may be a defloss, suddenly suggests "3-0 for Spartazord", trying to modify what he, they, had agreed to,
4. At the start of Lost World, Strenx takes the upper YA, does machine gun damage to Spartazord, kills himself, and then even checks if the mega is still there for him.
I don't think that this is what the admins proposed.

I think the original agreement is more than ok and generous by Strenx. But as soon as he had reconnected, he showed that his word isn't worth too much,

In the end, though, it is all Spartazords fault for playing on after he got mg:d and heard the ya pickup. Dude, you should have stopped right there.

The best player not always winning is part of competitions. It's not only about winning with beautiful play, it's also about being lucky sometimes and getting new opportunities & experiences. That's what makes it unpredictable and fun.

Being consistent is also part of being a really good player. So make fair rules, apply them and don't think about who would normally win - that's not the issue here.

Gotta agree with the other guy. Please, grow up, and grow a pair. If you can't handle your rage because strenx had a computer problem, or you are so inconfident in your abilities, then you would have been out of the tournament sooner or later.

I'm sick of the entitlement that sparaz0rd thinks he deserves because he got extremely lucky the first match (he would have needed all the luck he can get to get out of the group stage).

He got beat on two maps, he won one map. He lost the match. If sparta boy is any good then he will beat spartie and win the group. If he doesn't, then he clearly didn't deserve to move on anyways.

And the rage made him play worse? Deal with it. A champion wouldn't whine and sulk, a real champion would have beat strenx on the second dm13 and on aerowalk. A loser would just whine on esreality, irc, and in the in-game chat.

I still don't see what you're complaining about, Spartazord, or why you feel entitled to a default win. You agreed to replay the match with a 1-frag lead over strenx. *Note that when the first match was paused for sound issues, you only had 100/150* The new match starts and you quickly get about 200/150 and it's your own choice that you didn't pick up a shaft, so stop whining about not having shaft. So to go from a 1-frag lead with 100/150 to a 1-frag lead with ~200/150 is a pretty sweet deal, and you sure didn't seem to have a problem until you were down 7-0 (apparently if you guys had played like originally planned and done the 5-0 lead for you, it wouldn't have mattered anyway with him winning by that much), then everything was "totally f*cked up" and you act like you deserve a default win after losing a match where you were handed a 1-frag lead and complete control of the map. I think you got more than your fair share of control given where you were at in the original match on dm13, and it's your own fault for not picking up shaft, and it's also your own fault for agreeing to the terms if you were uncomfortable with them (which you obviously were not until you were losing). You are acting like him taking that YA before he jumped into lava is what made you lose the match, and it obviously wasn't. I really do sympathize with your situation, but there's a rule that allows for him to reconnect with that type of issue (I agree with you, that may be a bad rule) and the things you're complaining about likely wouldn't have changed the outcome. It was definitely a messy situation, but you came off realllllly whiny and raged. Beat spartie and prove everyone wrong!!! :) I really am pulling for you even if it's hard to believe given this post.

the point is...admin imposed a rule ( him rushing lava right after spawn and not hitting me with mg + taking a ye ) that wasnt respect and this to all what happened and u get my aim . Match wouldnt surely end the same without me totally whining and not focusing to the game . Do u actually think that u go from being almost calm ( i was already pretty raged ) to TOTALLY whine in one second ( 7th frag ) ? There isnt a rule for this situation aswell ( even admins admitted it coz u cant say it was a technical problem ... isnt like lag or anything related , its him saying his audio didnt work which might be both false or true and having to reconnect for some weird reason )
i cant consider my situation any better in the rematch aswell... u cant consider me with 100 150 since i was at mega with it spawning the exact second he called the timeout .

Yeah, I definitely would be pretty upset at the situation too man. I don't blame you for raging. I hate that it happened to ya. You were looking great up till that rematch on dm13. Stay focused and beat the rest of the group! :)

Oh, and I didn't know there wasn't a rule specifying that he could reconnect for audio problems. Bad luck for you, even though I'm sure it's not strenx's fault either. Just a messed up situation in general.

The disappointing thing for me would be Strenx lack of integrity and sportsmanship.

1. Strenx had promised a 5-0 lead to Spartazord, even if admins make another decision, it is simply weak and bad character to not fulfill that promise. If the kid would have a straight back he would have given away the 5 frags regardless of the admindecision as he had promised.

2. Strenx tops this by not directly killing himself in the lava as forced by the admins, but instead starting off machinegunning Spartazord at the spawn and deliberately taking one yellow armor before actually jumping into the lava, thus completely changing the dynamics of the map.
Apparently Strenx is not only not a man of his word, but also not very sportive.

Put both points together and it is just pretty nasty by Strenx.
Spartazord should have demanded a restart the second Strenx machinegunned him and took that yellow armor.
