Someone on IRC told me that 2GD said he had set up his own studio and was going to do casts from home, apparently starting this monday with some starcraft 2 during that cast. It's not particularly believable, but the VOD isn't up as you say so I can't check lol.

I'd say that 2gd is a huge factor for the success of ql in the public, obvious! nobody is able to explain ql as good as he can. besides that 2dg spreads so much love and therefor helps the community a bit to get along with each other.

if he leaves, it's a very big loss for the community. he was sent by god, he has to stay with us. =) if he leaves interest in ql won't grow too good. the less interest, the less tournaments the less prizemoney and the less fun for us. :(

Its not as if the dialouge needs to be advanced anyway and English is known by most Germans, so for the greater good, you would be better off speaking in English unless you only want the event to be a success in Germany.

don't know about what "event" you're talking , but he is mainly covering every wednesday the german eps league. he is also covering their enc nations event, run by the esl. i guess, thats the deal with the esl, nothing more or less. dunno why you really care about the first.

It depends on the coverage really.

If all you're doing is a video feed of the game and commentary then yeah, you can get away with one or two casters, but if you go into interviews etc, you lose a big part of the audience and I thnk you need need the events to be more like that to make it all more popular.

Don't mind Nazi's, just a reference to someone who is trying to dislodge the conversation for his own contempt of me. The fact that it was a German made it more appropriate.

Botton line is if you're trying to sell anything it needs to be accessible, so its not about national pride and all that bullshit.

There is some speculation here that he left because he wanted to do more casting or whatever, being able to speak german wouldn't have hurt in his situation.

Well, one of them has several paid employees, a studio, organizes multi-game tournaments around the world and has thousands of viewers on a daily basis. The other one irregularly services a few dozens people per week from some basement in Moscow. So no - you can't really compare them.

You say you get the point of premium subscription and at the same time you're amazed that the free-stream isn't 720p. It's like saying you get the concept of priced TV stations and yet you're shocked when they scramble the signal after you don't pay.

The quality of the stream should be higher than it is now and that's all.
ESL wants to make money off viewers and that's fine. It doesn't mean I have to be satisfied with the "free" stuff they provide and can't state my opinion about it.

I'm not that keen on the free stream either and yes i would prefer a better free stream but im just looking at this from ESLtv POV and i would rather pay for a better stream and be giving money to ESL to help them keep going because ESL have done loads for the community and they are the most stable tournament organizers we have ever had plus they are doing whats best for e-sports and not trying to get all the money they can.

They give away free membership things for premium in the ESL streams fairly frequently. At the rate they do that, they might have good luck just giving away week free trials for the premium streams.

That's the thing. I dunno what the premium stream is like (and those 'comparison' videos make no odds to me because I'm viewing it on an already shitty stream anyway) so there aint any way I'm gonna delve in and pay to try it if the free stream I'm viewing doesn't have me jumping for joy.

Personally I feel the premium quality could be a little better but it's still enough of a difference to the free stream. Plus, as long as they are doing quake shows and events I feel morally obliged to support that effort - every quake fan who doesn't want to be a negative bitch should be able to spare 3€ a month if you ask me.
That being said, I'm afraid they suffered a big loss in entertainment value by losing 2GD and we'll have to see how things develop in the near future.
A word from 2GD himself or some ESL official on this matter woudn't hurt though - on the last show Joe didn't lose a single word about the thing.

I really think ESL is in a lot of trouble. I've heard ESL talk about that they want to become a FIFA like organization for eSport, well, that isn't going to happen unless they make ESL more international. Fix the web portal, it's a weird mix of bad English and German, hire more English casters and stream more for the international scene. If they don't do this MLG will steal the non German speaking audience from them, fast.

I guess hiring English casters is ´not that easy, if you want to have them at the ESL studio, as they would have to move to Germany. Which in turn means paying them enough to make it feasible and also not too many casters might be willing to make that move, anyway.
Alternatively, they could consider opening a studio in the UK, which might just be the better solution in the long run but isn't unproblematic to do.

So, I guess finding casters with good knowledge and English, that already live in Germany might be the best solution, but they might be very hard to find.

ESL need to:

1.Get More English speaking shows at the same time every week
(eg: Mon:Cs1.6,SC2 Tues,QL Wednesday and WoW thurs)
2.Get all big gaming site to say ESLtv is live now
3.Have IRC next to stream

Also at live events have pre-recorder videos explaining the game.

4.stop choking the quality because it's fucking bullshit.

TBH i would be happy to pay just if the stream was more scheduled

Also i know this wont go down well with Advertisers but to get more people into pc gaming you could show them you don't need the latest gaming PC that costs £1500 because most of the main games in IEM are like 10 years old.

Well i would say that's one of the main thing's people don't play games on their pc is because they think you have to have a really expensive PC that's going to cost an arm and a leg, so they just go for the console instead. Eww to the CS1.6 because that would mean the better games that are usually just advertised on HLTV (where you can connect to the HLTV server much like GTV) would be scheduled to ESL stream. They've done that a few times before, where they take the more anticipated games and stick it on the stream and don't allow people to connect to the HLTV which sucks so bad. You inevitably have to put up with some manic depressive shoutcaster with Joe trying to lighten the mood (but failing). And all that's not even mentioning the shitty quality, terrible camera angles and preference to German-team's games.

SC2 is pointless because even livestream has better quality then the ESL free stream so who the hell would bother watching the ESL stream over day9 vods?! Even though Day9 used to like spectating some Quake action during tournaments I'm not sure he'd be interested in casting it.

But if he does I'm pretty sure that in 2 weeks of massgaming he'll be able to go take a pee during a cast and come back saying that one of the guys delayed ra by 17 seconds given the mh/pillars bubble timing clash on dm6.
