yeah he's playing really good and considering quake live is moving more into the spotlight there might actually be some decent prizes in future events

could be pretty interesting to see if he can dominate quake live like he did with quake 4 - i doubt it but it adds even more competition along with a well known name :)

Well, he's dominating everyone damagewise - ie, he even outdamage strenx, stermy and cooler even when he loses (lost by a diff of 8 frags against cooller, yet outdamaged him also)...

So, seems that his aim is second to noone, all he needs is more practice and timings... IF he can do that, noone will stop him...

Not the sharpest pencil in the box, eh?

When one of the players forfeits/quits is EXACTLY when you can see the exact damage you and your opponent dealt and taken (althought that damage includes self damage from rj's, for example, althought it is allways very low, say, 200 in 3000 total).

If both players finnish the match, ou are only able to see the damage dealt by one of them.

stop sucking toxjq dick fanboyz, he played quake 3 duels in his time and did not do that anything great other than raging cooller on dm6 for one lan match, since quakelive is derivative of quake 3 I can not really put my hopes up.

On second thought its a big problem for people who finish 5th-8th every tourney, one more big name and big aim to deal with.

cooller fanboyism is not entirely due to number of tourneys he has won, its mostly because of the following things:

1. He co-invented the control based gameplay, first person to show that total item timing lockdown is enough to beat anyone even with people of highly superior aim.

2. Using the lg and pg to its full potential, it used to be a battle of rockets and rails and rest used as finishers, he had a big part to play in shaping quake3/live as its played now.

3. Showing nerves of steel in situations thats clearly not favoring him, holding strong when chips are down and playing it to the end, there are many examples: ones that come to mind right away are dm6 vs zero4 in eswc 2003 and a tourney4 match against hz.cherya probably eswc2004 or 05 not sure. In recent times only rapha has shown this trait, current top pro-gaymers I see, especially cypher and av3k totally lack this sometimes, they reach the give up point pretty soon often.

4. Out-thinking people. I need not say more.

5. His corrupted russian english quotes.

6. Showing good fashion sense :P

7. Consistency in placing top 3 (this point is dedicated to spartie :P)

in before the obligatory tl;dr reply, sorry for jamerio sized post but could not resist it.

Not gonna argue with you if he was the main "inventor" of those things - anyway, I have no clue, I only started following Quake at competitive level since September 2009.

But at least at the moment:

1- Rapha has better control than cooller;

2- Strnx, stermy, z4muz, cypher etc have better lg; Cypher has way better plasma;

3- Dahang and rapha seem better in that aspect also, in the last months;

4- Rapha

1-He didn't invent shit, Fatal1ty and ZeRo4 were doing this way before his time.

2-Wtf are you talking about? Makaveli was the first LG god. PG -- who gives a sh*t.

3-What professional doesn't have nerves of steel.. How do you think they got to where they are?

4-What professional hasn't out-thought people..

5-You mean the stupid ass shit that only someone who is too lazy to learn a language properly would say?

6-If by fashion you mean fagshit, then yes he shows good fagshit sense.

7-Keyword: Top 3, meaning he can't win squat anymore.

And in response: toxic is 10x the professional cooller ever was. He overcame far worse odds to win in 2006 with a venue full of people screaming for him to lose when the chips were down. He showed total respect after winning even to all the people who wanted him to lose, cooller could do well to learn from this example.

5. no comments, his english has deffo improved over years.

6. zzz

7. losing 1 final / 1 semifinal in entire tournament is still pretty fucking good compared to winning something and then losing in group stages in next tourney.

Thresh didn't do what cooller did at all.

The point about cooller isn't "timing" items or "controlling" the red armour or some simple concept like that it's about the difference between playing against the map and playing against the player (e.g. cypher [map] vs av3k [player] or cooller [map] vs zero4 [player]).

In fact, ZeRo4 "complained" about this in an interview once and he always went on about how he had copied things from Thresh that other players still weren't doing etc.

Also I'll stick this in here too:

The point about cooller and the LG isn't to do with having good aim or whatnot it's about the strategy used with it.

Cooller's shaft based game was new and so successful that pretty much the entire quake scene eventually adopted it. You rarely see players who primarily use other weapons for combat these days (cypher with rockets for example).

The combination of playing the map + shaft orientated play changed Q3, prior to that you had the Rail/Rocket based players dominating (ZeRo4) and the focus was always on playing the player.

Toxic is the best example of how to be a professional duel player, the guy took Q4 seriously and was clearly fully prepared for every event.

cooller had the edge over him still at first but as soon as cooller stopped bothering and just went to the occasional tournament Toxic won every time.

Did he even lose a LAN post-ESWC 2006?

It was actually because his config didn't suit the changes made in 1.4. It was the first tournament to adopt it where toxjq played against av3k who fortunately had the correct style for the gameplay already. After this, tox changed his style to suit 1.4 and won every following tournament.

No, his fov and sensitivity were too low because he was used to the slower movement and easier predictablity. Having longer silent slides meant he needed a higher fov cos sound wasnt as useful anymore. He raised his sens to cater more for a rocket-based style, as rail and shaft had been weakened. It also helped for looking around faster etc.

I think the interesting part is that in all his games against Strenx (even the ones he's lost), the stats say that he's delivered more damage and often out aimed him

I'd also been keeping tabs on matches he was playing and they're progressively getting more frequent.

What was also interesting is that in some matches he was out lg-ing strenx, and even playing matches that ended 2-1 on ZTN in overtime against Cooller

That shit has to be good

i honestly think if toxic comes back to dueling seriously, he would be THE player to beat in qlive. his game is so balanced, and his aim so ruthless you can't help but favor him in almost any matchup. i'd love to see how he would fare against the best NA players.

toxjq is the legendary aim. like cooller is the legendary brain

Would love to see him comeback, he has already fucked up strenx while being rusted with his lg alone, but toxjq has THE FUCKING RAILGUN SON, strenx can't compare to his aim with all guns.

I'd totally think tox could dominate in quakelive,

TOX vs rapha/cypher/av3k/cooller games would be god to spectate

Tox rail is even more awsome then his shaft :P I will never forget those 2v2s with fox when he hits like 60- 80% rail after 200 shots in game after game after game against top opponents at that time.

Tox,Fox and Gopher are the greatest since quake 3 came out.Who cares about dueling...only girls do it :PPP

godly choice

stelam was actually more devastating than tox in the beginning, tox was called the "stelam of the north" for some time in germany, but he made a name for himself anyways as we all know :P

My favourite quake player to watch; awesome movement, awesome aim, solid (nothing crazy) strats, such a balanced game overall. If he would be as serious about quake live as he was about quake 4, no question he would dominate.

I remember playing him once in QL ( I got raped of course); just felt like he had an aura of invincibility around him; never, ever been lg rushed like that since. I've also played fox, and even though I got raped, he still felt beatable/human.

If he is doing professional horse race gambling atm, then he should have some time to commit to ql hopefully :)

Why do you think tox1c took q4 seriously?

think about it and you will know why. wasn't because he was some sort of god.

If that is true; then I presume we are talking about the swedish toxjq, and not the polish tox1c.

Toxjq took q4 seriously because he had just begun to take q3 duel seriously, around 2005 ish; and through various interviews, he just really liked the game. So imo, he took q4 seriously due to a natural progression, and for the love of the game.

And I never said he was a god. Why am I doing this?

He played DKT at Dreamhack Winter (2009) but lost. He showed what he's made of when in WSVG 2006, Fatal1ty came back 2-0 from loser's bracket with everyone cheering for Fat and an occasional single cheer for Tox. Tox then went on to win the next 2 maps and if you've seen that video, Fat was clueless about how to come back in the map - A true dueler and a perfect example of map lockdown.

I really hope he makes a comeback. It would change a lot of things for the top 5 in QL.

Best part of those videos for sure. Along with 2GD yelling "MAKE HIM GO MINUS!!!"

Even funnier when he's obviously just stopped caring as much, takes one death and the people in the background are like yelling "YEAH NOT SO QUIET NOW TOXIC!!!"
