why is id sitting on their hands with this? need hubster's permission?
and i think the map could benefit from cutting the rail, though i'm sure many here would disagree...

edit: I want to see new good maps as well, but aerowalk is worth keeping (over some others.)
after some looking around, it's in: qw q2 q3 cpm q4 ut2k4 ut3 d3.

I know people complain about only playing old maps, but so is t4; and aerowalk has been in every quake game with the exception of q4, so I think it's deserving of some respect...it's just an excellent map.

5 maps per tournament is ideal. so to add hub (in tournaments), 1 must be removed. so its either dm6 dm13 or ztn.

All old out - to get new ones played.
If you include one old, it's better to include all, else players will play the one-few old maps that are there.

Including all and enforcing new ones (when they're available) by leagues/tourneys is the most civilized choice here, IMO.

I would agree with you. I do think it would be great to see hub3 in a QL version, but I'm sure not everyone would agree. I do believe that he needs to build the map and try talking with the QL admins about it. It's pretty much the same deal as ZTN.

Well, without the rail the speed of the map increases at least in terms of player movement, which to me could make the map even more exciting and returns it to its roots.

When you have not map control railgun is the most important weapon. I think without it, games could be one-sided most of times mainly because everyone now has amazing lg aim.

The pace of hub is just mind blowing to me.

I'm not sure about the legal ramifacations, but I don't think Hubster can claim ownership for a map that he remade (aerowalk). Would id have to track down both hub and the creater of aerowalk?

I give id a lot of credit for doing a great job with quakelive, but they really slacked off in the maps department. Just pay ztn to make a bunch of new maps!

Doesn't matter if it's a remake, he still owns that specific map. If I made ZTN into Quake 4, sure it's the ZTN layout, but I'd still have the rights to that map.

At the same time, we wouldn't be able to re-make Hub into QL and keep everything the same, it would have to be different enough where Hubster couldn't accuse plagiarism. So, we can't do that.

Doesn't matter. If ID wants aerowalk they must contact Preacher, not Hub. If they want Hubster's remake they must contact Preacher and then Hub. Preacher is map's author and nothing can be legally done without his permision. And I tell you, getting Preacher's permision is not easy.

jaltourney2 + Aerowalk would be awesome. What's the big deal with adding more maps to the map pool? It would get boring seeing the same maps over and over. I think a mix of classics + new maps would be nice. I personally like tourney 9 and think it shouldn't be replaced.

I'd rather play hub 30 times, even if it's old and "overplayed" than new shit map just because it's new. We do not need new maps, we need NEW QUALITY MAPS.

Not like "oh this map is so new, let's force people to play it!".

I can't blame you, not a lot of people like challenging themselves to learn a new map, and the prospect of a level playing field with newer players doesn't help either. If a map doesn't live up to the communities expectations it gets dropped after a short period of time, SEE CA2.

He's not knocking the new map, he's saying he'd rather have this old map if his choice is ONLY the old map or a new one. Here's a revolutionary idea: allow the old map AND get the new map. If it's shit then nobody will play it. If competitions are held on it then people will at least play it.

If people don't play it cos they prefer the old map then tough shit, don't really see why you want to force people to play a map they don't want to play. Maybe fuck off?

That's actually backwards though.

You put in Hub, you'll only enable those scared veterans to continue playing their old school maps over and over again. Where as you don't give them as many classic maps and they're forced to play on the newer ones from time to time.

How many hundreds of maps are out there for vq3/cpm in general? Who knows. But it's clear that people don't feel comfortable playing on new maps unless they're forced to.

My opinion is that they should have never added ZTN... they should throw ought dm6. And we should be having community contests to add new maps. NEW MAPS.

This should be a revival of Q3... not a resurrection.

Many months ago, there was a thread all about trying the maps on lvl out. There were quite a few good ones, ones that might need minor modification, and ones that had good aspects in some parts.

In the end, the results were generally ignored. If there does end up being a map contest, I expect it to have the same impact. =/

I don't think it would be the same. It's very different when id is controlling user generated content, because they only add selected maps. It's not like we would be bombarded with 100 shit maps, we'de probably only get to play the 3 best which id choose to include in QL.

Also, there would be no issues with maps availability on servers. Getting server admins to play along in q3 was difficult.

Hubaerowalk and hubtourney1 would be great additions to QL. I'm Also in favour of new maps.

I find it shocking how slowly id software are moving things. Where are the new maps and premium accounts and such?? This was announced as the first big feature to be implemented after the feburary release of QL 8 months ago.

true and whats even funnier is the community which wont shit a bit about that to ID... I mean, wtf these dudes are doing? I know that for example it would be easy to make better statistics system / graphs etc in few hours of work, but they just wont do it? same goes for maps, private servers and everything... I dont get why people still respect ID so much.. ID was once a great developer, but now they are just after money as anyone else. Only great thing in ID is carmack, after he will retire ID will be totally full of shit.

You obviously don't get it. Look at almost anything that has stood the test of time. Just look at any game/sport/competition.

You'll see that almost nothing changes in board/field/map w/e wise. So, just saying.

Even cs has had the same maps for a long time that have stuck.

to expand on this. changing maps makes the game much more interesting for the competition and the spectators. the way starcraft is played changes due to the different maps used. it also raises the amount of skill needed to stay at the very top. beeing able to learn new maps and develop new ways of playing them keeps the game interesting for everyone.

and the old maps never goes away, they are played every now and then. maybe not in the biggest leagues but there are apperances in smaller events. plus the non-pro community gets to play their old classics as well as the same maps as the pro players.

keep the old school & classic maps aka dm6, ztn & hub, add t7 & make a community
mapping contest so that we can add 1 or 2 more GOOD maps to the mappool.

Then it would be 3 old & classic maps + 2 or 3 new GOOD ones. Perfect balance.

(and maybe make some items change @ dm6 etc)

I think hub should be added anyways, even though it wouldnt make in tourneys..

I have never played hub, but it looks fun and i cant think any reason why it shouldnt be added.
