I broke the mouse wheel on my newly bought Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical by smashing it fiercely on my desk while red veins passionately throbbed on my sweaty, wrinkled forehead (no comment). The wheel has "sunken in" the mouse, and doesn't register anything at all. I tried fixing it without opening the mouse, but to no avail.

Is there a way to open and close the WMO, to fix the wheel? Has anyone encountered the same problem?

You need to l2google m8!!!

Because here in The Netherlands, there are loads of different shops which sell them in packs of 3 for less than 20 euro.

remove the mousefeet and undo the screws to open it. should be easy to spot if the mouse if it's fucked or if it can be fixed.

Thanks for the tip, this helped. The axis of the wheel turned out to be broken, I will try to glue it together. Ah, the joys of a cheap mouse... you can safely tinker with it and not worry if you're going to destroy it even more :]

Ye I had to get a new mouse because the same thing happened to me :( It's always the mouse wheel that goes. I've had like 4 or 5 of them over the years. They are so hard to find in South Africa for some reason, so I bought a Razer Salmosa. It was about 35 euros, and is very similar in size, I am loving it :)

One at a time it's �10, but you can buy OEM packs of 5 for �40. (Although I found one place that's selling a 5 pack for �19!!)

go to office supply stores rather than computer stores - I can buy the OEM for about R150 iirc in stellies.

Already got a Razer Salmosa! Loving it too, was only R350. Although I'm not a big proponent of getting high DPI mice (skill is infinately more important), I am enjoy this! It also has 1000hz polling polling rate.

Ah, nice. My office recently replaced just about everyone's mice with wireless logitechs, so I got about 5-6 wmo's for free :D the feet are worn on most but they all seem to be working, so I'm sorted mouse-wise for the next few years :D

You probably snapped the actual plastic that its attached to in order to spin. Just go buy a new one, it's not like they're expensive.

As long as it's a clean brake, superglue (super gel easier/better) and clean surfaces (no finger fat) should hold it, (even for a bit of violence.. but not berserk :P =).

I agree. Got any tips? I play quite few games (Go mostly), and I have anger issues in each one.

Btw. I glued together the wheel axis, but the scroll wheel still does not work. Oh well...
