I tried to use Timelimit 10 in some Q4 tourneys back then ... but ppl didn`t get used to it in Q4. So I want to give it another shot in this tourney ... Now with QL influence it might be interresting ... and jop I voted 10 in that poll :-))

Anyway, 10 is used in QW and Q2 as well, so I hope that ppl will be playing on servers, where you can vote time limit change :-P

As Q3/QL and Q4 have *quite* a similar gameplay i can't see why anyone would want to hold on to Q4.

Well, QW has superior gameplay, infrastructure and features compared to any FPS game and thus doesn't give the impression of a turd.

I can read, i surf the web, i watch streams of big tournaments (that no longer happen in Q4).

I accept your videostream argument, however i would've appreciated it if you just played the game for a couple of games that is not only a quicker way to test the game but also the better one (considering you've bought the game already for the SP)

My reasoning goes like this:

Q4 at first seemed like a pain to get into. You needed to download every single tiny part of every map on the servers to even get into a game. You needed to do this in order to play a game that leaves as much freedom to express yourself as a player as Q3 (at best, i shall add!). It has a similar gameplay as Q3, which might be OK for 1on1 but insufficient for all other gametypes, and a GFX engine which requires a nuclear powerplant in order to run at decent FPS.

In addition to this you have a "community" of about 17 players, virtually no websites (apart from ESR), no GTV (which is in no way close to on par with QTV), no MVD demos, close to zero possibilities to mod the game to your liking and no tournaments at all (hey, why are you all cheering at this thread in the first place?).

I could go on, but if you actually tried Quakeworld, you would know why i cheerish that game above any other one. Perhaps i shall add that no matter what it looks like among these comments i respect your choice of game no matter what game you settle for - especially if you settle for one that has a minority crowd. It's not without some really hard and stubborn work that QW has got to where it is today, just because of people like you (and me). :)

Well, i play QW from time to time.. i find it myself a very good game (esp. considering its release date).. i just hated your way to prove your point.

Yeah, agree Q4tv is not as good as GTV but there hasn't been a decent GTV for QW for a long while until ezQuake did it. MVD is possible in Q4 too.

Sounds like a comment made in 05, but seriously, the engine doesn't allow for big mistakes in the mapping directory, thats true.. (something that QWers don't understand, with its auto-vis compile :P) but that is not the engine's fault.

I love QuakeWorld. I'm not going to call any names, because based on your explanation I can see why you came to the conclusion that you did.
But seriously, comparing Q4 "out of the box" is about as useful as comparing Quake 1 "out of the box". Surely as a Quakeworld player you understand how drastically different it is when you've installed nQuake vs just installing off of the Q1 cd.
Q4, patched to 1.4.2 and using Q4max .82 is pretty comparable, concerning advances in competitive features and ease of use.

So, from having read all what you just said, I have to repeat myself.. tard..

whats your feeling about cpm then? it should meet most of your qw requirements unless u desperately want unbalanced weapon.

It still doesn't have the QW physics and 4on4 gameplay.

Yes, i have played quite a bit of CPMA and was a big fan of it in its early days when the likes of Hoony & Co were still around. I have played it on and off the past years, but i always come back to the superior game. The same goes for vanilla Q3, which i also played very much when it was first released, but realised there was a better alternative available too.

At first my preference was CPMA, but as the years passed it has became less and less appealing to me. I like the fact that it gives the player freedom with the movement scheme and so on, but the gametypes are just...ugh. For 1on1 i prefer vQ3/QW and 4on4 QW. CPMA is something weird inbetween.

Next Tourney will be in Tic Tac Toe or Commander Keen :)

I just started playing Quake 4 again. It was just for one night, though, as nobody plays that anymore.

The only active server was the good old Jolt FFA. I also noticed a single duel game but couldn't joint because I had to download some files which the server wasn't kind enough to offer me so... fuck that.

The network code is comparable to QL heh. That's sad

Compareable to QL? Get a clue first please.. with q4max the netcode is perfectly fine with q4base its worse because it spikes all the time but if your ping is low enough, its still playable.
There are a few active servers for duel, where you dont even need to wait longer than 5 min (usually) for an opponent.
