Who is Tommy Cooper?
Sorry but I thought it was pretty stupid to define "comedy" as a comedian. Comedy exists in many different forms and arts.

Secondly, I'm half English/Welsh and god knows how man people you classify as English are too. Its not black or white.

Thirdly, I am British, it means the majority of my influences are made up of British values.

We don't have big walls in the UK where you get shot if you try and cross them. As a result a lot of content is mixed.

I've never really appreciated how fucking devastating the flu could be.

Russian Flu
1889 - 1890
Deaths: 1 million

Spanish Flu
1918 - 1920
Deaths: 40 to 100 million

Asian Flu
1957 - 1958
Deaths: 1 to 1.5 million

Hong Kong Flu
1968 - 1969
Deaths: 0.75 to 1 million

Our generation hasn't experienced anything like this, yet.

"Persons at greatest risk are those who do not practice safe sex, those who are not monogamous, those who participate in anal intercourse, and those who have sex with a partner with symptoms of advanced HIV infection and/or other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In the United States and Europe, most cases of sexually transmitted HIV infection have resulted from homosexual contact, whereas in Africa, the disease is spread primarily through sexual intercourse among heterosexuals."

The difference between AIDS and flu is that AIDS can be avoided. Unless your a recluse who has his own source of food it's very hard to avoid the flu when it's pandemic.

while they maybe a bit silly about it, no they haven't this time, this is a big risk to people. the media is like the boy who cried wolf, a real story happens and no one believes them.

there are still a lot of question marks about how much swine flu has spread, it takes time to collect information and organize it, so no one really knows how bad it is now, let alone could be.

many seem to think just because sars or bird flu didn't materialise, that this won't either or that 'people get flu all the time' forgetting this isn't seasonal flu.

plus according to the WHO, we are only one phase from a pandemic.

oops, it actually is a pandemic - http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenz...index.html

oops again, that's bird flu i think, well whatever, you get the idea.

So far, all we know about this is that it's no different than an average flu, and possibly even less dangerous. The attention that this has in the media is just insane. They are closing down schools, shutting down public events, and the media is already talking about martial law.

There is no threat - this is just an excuse for martial law and forced vaccinations.

we do NOW, we didn't before.

and in the 1918 pandemic , it started off mild, then mutated. so even now it's important to keep it contained. it's a world wide serious public health issue, it's not something to be taken lightly.

what martial law and what is wrong with vaccinations?

what about martial law? it's bad? i never said anything about government responses, though most have been good.

i guess you're referring to the rare neuromuscular response in the 1976 vaccine in which a very small number(25) died. though unfortunate, there was a bigger problem from vaccine fear from unfounded rumours that other deaths were linked to the vaccine when they weren't. besides there is no vaccine for the current strain yet, which funnily adds to the risk for it spreading.

not that any of this has anything to do with the media coverage.

Yet you asked about them anyway.

The entire point of the whole pandemic scare is just to get people to quietly sit by and let martial law be enacted. It might have worked if so many people didn't speak up on how stupid the government/CDC/WHO were being.

You're seriously supporting your argument with 1000 deaths? That's about 5% of the deaths caused by the average seasonal flu each year. Additionally, even the CDC said that the swine flu would peak in mid-October, which has already passed.

The vaccine, however, has already infected, killed, and permanently disabled dozens of people that would statistically have an exponentially better chance of no issue without taking it. Even Obama, his wife, and his children aren't getting the vaccine.

On the plus side, it did bring me a few laughs with this video:

Oh man, 1000 deaths! On average, 5-20% of the population of the entire world get the flu each year (CDC), and more than 20,000 people die from it. At a maximum of 20% infected world-wide, that would be 20,000 out of 1,335,000,000 infected people that die from your AVERAGE flu - not even a strong one!

~~This makes swine flu only 10x more likely to be your cause of death than being killed by a bolt of lightning.~~

Scratch that - double checking my math puts death by lightning strike at about 12x more likely than death by swine flu. Death by the seasonal flu is only slightly more likely than death by lightning.

Traditionally fear is a common tool of non-liberal state to control the masses, and traces of that can also be seen in the yellow press.

What interests most me is not so much if I am going to get away healthy or how many people wil get it, but the social scope. What about the cases in Mexico city? Because first, it was 150 people dead over a very short time, then conflicting reports told us about only 9. The fatal cases seem to be confined to Mexico. That 's very strange for a virus, that has adapted to the DNA of humans? It will not stop at the Mexican border like someone who has lost his passport.

For all we know it could be an experiment in power management of the Mexican government - very unlikely though, of course. But the deserted streets of Mexico City I saw on the news made me think: 'No government alone can do that, only fhe fear of a deadly and fast-spreading virus'. It is the ultimate way to control people.

Scientists say the virus could eventually gain vigor and become deadly. We already have such a virus. In the 2002/2003 flu season, more than 16,000 Germans died with the flu. Nobody seemed to give a rat's ass. The media brought this shocking news after the 5th minute mark or on the 3rd page. We are liviing with deadly things around us, but the deadliest remains the brutal potential of the fear of the masses me thinks.

You can also put Kremlin on your photo instead of that blue dude from "Sesame street" and Putin on your avatar instead of Manny Calavera (if I spell that right). That'll give you approximately 20-30%% of extra income from reacting trolls :D

The choice of the Kremlin and Putin vs Manny Calavera and the Cookie Monster is a one sided fight I'm afraid.

better get it now than when it mutates and eats you alive!

Also, please indulge me, how can you tell he "probably" has it?

Because he has most of the symptoms.

yeah, as do millions of other people, cause the symptons are the same as the normal flu.

Okay, so even if you have the normal flu, should you not stay at home?

sure.
But what he has might not even be the normal flu but just a stronger cold. So, he should go see a doctor.

My point was and is that you can't tell by looking at someone that he "probably has H1N1".

But it's fair to say you can tell if someone has the flu, correct? I guess I was wrong in being too specific (H1N1).

Regardless, people who have the flu should stay home. He didn't show up to class today, so I'm happy.
