Blizzard Entertainment's 3rd instalment of the Diablo franchise is rumoured to be released this coming Christmas with the online beta multiplayer trial to open on 11th September, 2009.

"It was unveiled on June 28, at the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational in Paris, France. Development on Diablo III began some time in 2005 when Blizzard North was still in operation. Four years is about time for a game release.

Associates working on a Diablo 3 game design have supplied the following information.

The release date for the online beta multiplayer trial version is currently set to:
11th September, 2009

The final version, available for purchase is to be released before Christmas:
24th December, 2009"

Maybe not. They've been focusing almost entirely on multiplayer in SC, and the beta is likely to be MP-only. I think they've been working on Diablo 3 for a long time, and they're only showing us a little bit to make it seem like it will be SC2.

Dont think it will be released 2009 for a very simple reason. Blizzard announced some time ago that they will release ONE (and only one) blockbuster each year. The fact that they stated that the developement of SC2 is far closer to beeing finished as the one of D3 is and the fact that there is already a SC2 beta announced, points to SC2 beeing released 2009..therefore no D3 in the same year

I don't believe they would release both titles that close to each other. That could possibly ruin their sales number. You've got to let a lot of people who purchase SC2 get bored, before you release another hammer on the market. Releasing them both at the same time will have people picking and choosing their favorite franchise instead of buying both.
