<3 Eazy-E

Ice Cube released a new album in August. Might be time to check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzeZhCt5PVA

I prefer some older flow (hustle!)!

treach is dope. hip hop hooray is timeless. 80s-90s hip hop is win.

99% of rap/hip-hop that came out after 96 or so is pure garbage, old school all the way!!

yeah, when sampling got nerfed there was a serious decline in the quality of hip hop. there have been some good tracks since then, tho.

not really, just the good hip hop is mainly underground now
mainstream pop rap isnt hip hop

"Underground" music being considered "good" has always been around and an object of pure opinion. I agree that there are plenty of "underground" artists which are 1000000x better than any mainstream bullshit hip-hop you hear on the radio now a days. But I think this argument will always be made as long as music is around. People have been spouting that mainstream music is terrible since, well, music has been "mainstream."

True but when you consider the number of genre-leaders who have died in the space of the last 15 years prematurely it's going to hurt the overall strength of the genre. In other genres like jazz or prog-rock people can have 50 year careers where they released 20+ studio albums and 30 live albums. If we had that long from pac, eazy etc I imagine hiphop would be a hell of a lot more exciting right now.

I agree though in that I can always come back to all the classic shit like pac whereas a track which comes out now and which sounds hot can be annoying 3 months down the line.

Yea true, pac has plenty of stuff out there though. I still would have loved to see him not get shot and be continuing to make music up to this day along with big, eazy, etc...edit: and of course big l!

I dunno what is more crazy: the amount of good tracks he managed to get recorded in that short an amount of time career-wise (albeit many of them without proper beats at the time) or the fact the guy did all he did by age 25. So many rappers come off as fakes in the face of his kind of genuine charisma. Sadly you only seem to get a handful of those kinds of people per generation per genre.

rap sux

I'll pass on the message.

talking about commercial releases, I can only agree.

Are there any niggers here tonight?

(the sound quality isn't that good though, try finding the mp3)

edit: the lyrics obviously suck for those that expected something else, I posted this for the beat.

50 cent, lyrically weak

Definitely. Lyrically, he's really bad. I was talking about the beat though :D

R.I.P B.I.G nigga, R.I.P P-A-C nigga R.I.P enough of that shit it's time to OD, one tme, but y'all can tell us how you want it

The Art of Robbing the Industry, heh that was WAY before he was mainstream.

what the fuck was insane about that?

fucking mind numbing and I can tolerate generic simple bullshit

Don't you find the beat really good? I mean ofc the lyrics are going to be dumb, it's 50 Cent, but I love the beat here.

If you're into beats I'd recommend getting the DJ Krush album 'Code 4109' and looking into Jedi Mind Tricks (their last album is a good place to start) assuming you haven't already.

yeah JMT are really good, I'll check out dj krush's album though, thanks!

Yeah JMT have always produced some sick ass beats, always enjoyed their shit

best beat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_tWvlicMQw1

sorry, but those sucked
lyrics littered with verbal fillings, like 90%
i like hard hitting lyrical brevity more.

unwritten rules about gangsta rap:
- more production value is less
- the further you stray from '96, the chance of sucking increases geometrically

accidental pluzzz =[

:(

I liked the first one, these guys could be flaming on ESR eventually.

O__O

how to make a good hiphop/rap song:

1: wave your arms around randomly a lot, preferably in an aggressive manner

2: if something doesn't rhyme, make up a word that does

3: make sure to say "yo" in every sentence, and as many times as possible between sentences

4: wear ugly clothes and compensate for this by wearing lots of "bling bling"

5: have a lot of girls around dressed in as little clothing as possible, to make sure people focus on your song more

6: call girls for "hoes", 'cause they like it

7: make sure to promote various criminal behaviours and talk badly about the police

8: destroy old vinyl discs, this is considered very cool

wowzers never heard those before

guess that means i'm not the only one who's realized this.

How to make a pseudo-witty post on internet forums:

1. Completely reduce a genre to some mainstream artists.

2. Conveniently ignore the fact that the best artists are not necessarily the most popular.

3. Make sure it's rap/hip-hop you're criticizing because other douches will inevitably agree.

4. Don't be original in what you're saying (I'm actually surprised you didn't mention "rap = retards attempting poetry").

Nujabes ft. Substantial - Think Different

If you speak french, a very powerful song by MC Solaar, La concubine de l'hémoglobine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIT1w6PrAmc&fmt=18
MC Solaar - Nouveau Western
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n8kGW16RYs&fmt=18

If you know MC Solaar you might know the artists behind these two tracks, if not then enjoy:

Iron Sy - Résistant (Generique De Fin)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K38ylA-1wRA

Iron Sy & Kmso - les Choristes Remix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR-GSOmFFeM

I frankly don't really like french rap except for mc solaar's first CDs (he's truely done a lot of great tracks) and some stuff by IAM etc. imo Solaar was really the best French rapper with his plays on words, alliterations and so on :)
"Face au sol-sol, sol-air, Solaar se fait radical"

these are my favourite french rap tracks!

ohh yeah dangerous is a great track!

IAM feat Wu Tang Clan - La Saga

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZPjgjkSv9g

:E

Demain c'est loin - IAM

bestest, nig!

nice track!

French rap in the 90s is so much more than Solaar/IAM/NTM. Problem is you really gotta understand French to enjoy.

2 bal 2 neg - Que faire
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=bIJh-IKNaws

Fabe - Des durs des boss... des dombis
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=zYrTIZKqV2s

Démocrate D - Le Crime
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=GyqIdpK_dc4

Wow, talk about overreacting to a post that clearly was not meant to be serious at all.

1. Many jokes are made based on the general conception people have about a subject, be it that jews are cheap or that all emos cut themselves, and every God damn joke in the universe offends someone (in this case you.) Lighten up.

2. Kinda the same answer as to 1, and I agree 100% that very often the most popular artists are not the best.

3. Other douches will inevitably agree about pretty much anything one could make jokes about, and some will be offended.

4. Since almost everything already has been said several times, it's almost impossible to be original.

I will not resort to childish namecalling.

It's just that it's a bit too easy to make fun of rap because of shitty artists like soulja boy etc. And tbh most people that say the things you mentioned in your post actually mean it and don't think twice about categorizing the entire genre as "garbage".

Pretty much every genre suffers from the same fate (though there might be exceptions to this, I'm far from an expert on the subject.) It's a sad truth, and I don't think there's any way to do anything about it. People will always be ignorant, for whatever reasons.

Ain't that the truth :(

Plus for Nujabes!

9. Steal all of your content from real musicians/artists

sorry, but most of the clips you posted sucked. see #32

"Slim anus, you damn right, slim anus
I dont get fucked in mine like you two little flaming faggots"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6hr_yh4MzU&fmt=18

ICP have nothing on eminem tbh :p there are SO many great songs on the slim shady lp and the marshall mathers lp.

Lyrically I like infinite the best out of all of his albums, kind of ironic he states he was just trying to find his style in this one, and was really just screwing around with it. Though I think his want for commercial success had a huge impact on the albums following infinite.
