The telegraph were the ones that reported that bullshit "we're gonna cut you off" story last time so wait for an official response.

I would like to see someone here write something up on the whole file sharing thing.

I.E. how you can go from E-mule, to bitcomet, to more underground stuff like usenet groups and paid sites etc.
How much it cost etc, download speeds, really all the ins ans outs.

It would be a good read.

newsgroups and invite only trackers = will max most ppl's download bandwidth (certainly the 24mbit that us brits are limited too)

both have downsides have to pay for decent news servers and have to keep a decent upload ratio on trackers

as the Icelander says its as mainstream as your bitcomet and emule were in 2003 or whatever

How's that supposed to work? Will the BPI monitor p2p like they currently do and just tell Virgin the ones they caught, so Virgin can act? Or will Virgin monitor the traffic of every customer?
In case of the latter, how do they know that the content a user is uploading/downloading is actually infringing on someones imaginery property?
In case of the former: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/05/the-...n-notices/

"An inanimate object could also get the blame. The researchers rigged the software agents to implicate three laserjet printers, which were then accused in takedown letters by the M.P.A.A. of downloading copies of “Iron Man” and the latest Indiana Jones film."

If understand correct the ISP is happy about this?

Isnt that like shooting yourself in the foot?
I mean the ISP's should know why people are getting there 24+ mbit lines. It isnt for surfing the web for sure.

How dumb are some people. Jebus.

virgin also has a music recording branch, so i guess doing this will protect their own franchise.

distributing copyrighted material is what usually gets the lawyers springing into action. That is why newsgroups are 'safer' than torrents (assuming no encyrption)

Or if you already have an account:
