It's a series of exerts from her giving a lecture/talk with several external sources for verifications/validation.
I enjoyed this when I saw it a few days ago, worth the download for sure. It has a Chomskyian air to it.
However I'm pretty sure the argument she presents is about 3 months old now. We/Americans need to be worrying about whether following administrations will relinquish the illegal/unconstitutional powers that the Bush administration left as their legacy.
Simply 'closing Guantanamo' isn't really enough. It's the bastardization of laws that allowed it to exist in the first place that should be the main talking point imo fyi ianal tbh.
yup, except that most americans seem to worry more about who's gonna win american idol this season.. or that they seem know more about the guy who hosts 'are you smarter than a fifth grader' than about their constitutional rights..
I have just started reading 'The Shock Doctrine' also by Naomi Klein and I am enjoying it quite abit.
One thing I was hoping an American could verify for me is the state of the schools in New Orleans. In the book it says that the majority of public schools in New Orleans were bought out and replaced by privatized schools? Apparently the school board which use to run in excess of 150 schools is now running only 4, the rest being run by private companies. The majority of teachers also being made redundant.
I really don't know about New Orleans but I do work for a school district that does get funding from corporations in the city. What happens is that in depressed areas these corporations come in looking to get breaks on taxes (as in 0 tax), which 9 times out of 10 they will be granted for something like 10-15 years. In turn, these corporations have to provide something for the city, beit jobs or funding, but the district itself still has jurisdiction over curriculum and whatnot, however limited. Then there is also the state in which the school district resides to answer to if the situation is really bad, so the input from the school board is diluted even more.
This situation doesn't do so much good because as administrations change, so does the source of funding, and so do the programs instituted. Having a corporation in control outright, if their intentions are honest, may not be a bad thing so long as they are a constant in the community, not just there because they made the highest bid.
we've been brainwashed to think that way. The government purposely brainwashes us to believe in the celebrity to distract us from the real causes. Also, they don't educate us, because dumb people don't ask question and just do as they are told. Americans need to gather some knowledge and not let the corporation controlled government butt fuck us any longer.
DONT LEAVE IN FEAR AMERICA QUESTION THE GOVERNMENT!
Well, is it our parents fault or is it their parents fault? Then is it their parents fault? You can keep making that excuse to the end of time. Blame the corporations for brainwashing. The government for not educating but taking advantage of the people.
That was inferred in my point but you can't expect the government to educate you. All they're there, or should be there for, is to provide structure and opportunity for everyone, unconditionally. It's been made very clear that they really only have the select few's interests at heart so you need to take measures to ensure you're aware of what information that passes between your ears gets filtered and what stays. This ability is becoming more and more of a skilled craft, especially in this country. Good luck!
Well.. you have to see the big picture. After generations and generations of brainwashing the people of today aren't aware.
We walk among zombies. These people are unaware of what is happening. They are consumed by the thought of brains. ( like reality tv, celebrities, religion, that the government will actually help them, and all other shit besides being self aware.)
BRAINWASHED TO THINK WE NEED MATERIAL POSSESsIONS. BUY BUY BUY CONSUME CONSUME. YOU CANT BE HAPPY WITHOUT MATERIAL THINGS. Whatever will keep your mind off us doing what we want.
Nah, Americans need to worry about the future of education in this country first. Everything else will fall in place. Bush wouldn't have happened had people not been on permanent vacation from the excess of the 90's.
I agree that true education reform is essential to the future of our two countries, but it's a bit of a catch 22. Education reform needs political will, political will won't arise without political reform and political reform won't arise without an educated public.
Until then, all we get to choose each election is what colour dick to sit on and nothing actually "changes".
I've been meaning to check out Naomi Wolf's work for a while now. Last time I flew long distance I was going to get her book 'The Shock Doctrine' but I decided on Cormac McCarthy's latest, The Road.
I have a rather liberal american friend who is quite sold on her so I'll see how she goes.
i thought the word milf was mostly used by teenagers/young adults...
YOU should say, "this women and I are so related to each other, like we have the same age: we should fuck together like consenting alduts"
I watched that just now. I was not that impressed, especially the first 30 minutes seemed very standard. No surprises at all. I thought most of the examples given for the 10 steps were somewhat unexplored... Can't really put my finger on it
that's similar, but not the thing i posted.. the thing i posted is kind of one third presentation (like on that youtube link), one third voiceovers by her with clips from news reports etc, and one third interviews with different other people..
this dude mentions Bechtel Corporation who was contracted to build highways in Romania (in exchange of pollitical gains)
they subcontracted local companies to do their job (5!! km of highways in 4 years, fuck yeah!).. so were they really needed as an intermediary? they sucked a lot of money and did nothing.
this country is so corrupt that they don't even need to hide it. the press is yammering non-stop about a lot of dirty economic actions with public money, the subjects eventually die out and people move on.
you can't do much anyway.. all is done in a legal grey area.
fuck Romania, sometimes i wish someone would nuke it (ruskies plz?)
beautiful country with shit people nowdays.. ruining the great work of our ancestors: surviving at the crossroads of so many empires (Ottoman, Russian, Polish, Austro-Hungarian)
haven't read the book or watched the documentary, but i would certainly like to see the american empire come to an end, soon. it is a threat to the survival of our species.
The dude drives a Hummer that runs on bio-diesel. How awesome is that? Although, it is he who sold GM on the Hummer as a passenger vehicle in the first place. I'm an independent but Arnold is growing on me...
just watched it
pretty much sums up everything i - and in fact at least 90+% of all europeans - said for the last 5-7 years
i used to like america, the american people and the american way of life...
until they all of a sudden became fat, brainless zombies in 2001 when they got themselves a republican to lead their countries fate (and trash it)
i have hope there are a few states left where people might actually still be sane
i was in wisconsin for a couple of months in 1999 - on student exchange - the people there were actually quite like us - completely different from everyone i've met on a 4 week vacation on the west-coast in 1998
