ye there are some contract limitations so for example they cant change gfx much which is good imo, i want it to remain the way it should be, infinity engine art style is beautiful.
there are a few functionality improvements, higher res(with anti-alias afaik?), some features from bg2, bugfixes, and their new content which is fine i guess.

they cant improve gfx because they are ought to use infinity engine, which wasnt made for high resolutions and stuff...

BG2TOB had 1024x960 res support, but items were so small, it was hard to see them without highlight...

high res in bg enhanced will have the same problem, as they did rescaling

I miss Baldur's Gate. I remember playing it 'till 6 AM on summer school break, waking up at 1 PM -> brunch -> coffee -> BG 'till 6 AM again.

Baldur's Gate series, along with Fallout2 and Monkey Island 1,2, and 3 are the only games I wish I could completely erase from my memory just to experience the joy of discovering them all over again.

I still prefer Planescape: Torment. Both legendary games though.

Torment is a much deeper, better written game, so it wins in my eyes, as well (though i love Baldur's Gate). Playing it is much like reading an excellent book, and that's the epitome of an rpg experience for me (mostly because it's a book you influence by your actions). BG never had that feeling for me, although the trilogy is a masterfully crafted experience itself. It's funny because the protagonist in Torment is pretty much deadlocked into being who he is, but, in comparison to BG, the game offers a much more detailed rendition to whatever choices you make while playing.

Precious few role playing games give its players the opportunity to do that. Torment sits proudly next to Fallout 1 and 2 in my personal topx rpg list, for that.

Same here. Role-playing has always been about text for me - no other medium can have the same level of detail. I believe I spent about an hour in a cafe in that game (the one with the flaming guy in the middle) just reading character dialogues. Writing is so cheap yet it can make for some high quality content. It always disappoints me when I see developers blow thousands of dollars on voice acting and animation when text can offer the same depth and so much more. I suppose it goes parallel with the anti-reading brain-drain you see nowadays.

Now we only need Icewind Dale.

there's a lot of 'hate' on IWD tho, for its linear and combat-oriented play. i personally love it just as much tho. awesome gfx/music/atmosphere, fun making strats/tactics for fights.

I loved BG. But loved IWD and IWD2 even more.

Yes, atmosphere was key. Even though it was 'just' 2D, I was so immersed in these two games. Loved it!

Fallout maybe, it's different story. It's SF vs Fantasy - you cannot say what is better. As for Planescape Torment: i've finish it a week ago and i truly think that it is amazing game. But there is one element that is really week: combat. BG wins clearly here.

Fallouts are the most epic RPGs of all time I think.
Your actions have consequences. So many possibilities in every way. For example, you can finish the game without killing anything. Or (in the first game) if you have the needed INT+CHA+speech, you can persuade the last boss, that his ultimate plan scientifically is a total bullshit and make him commit suicide. : D And so on.
Amazing humour, tons of gags, brilliant character creating and skill system with tactical combat, unmatched style - you can feel the radiating post-apocalyptic feeling in your pores while truly old jazz makes the sensation complete, making a bizarre, but undoubtedly very moody and original ATMOSPHERE. All-time favourites.

On a sidenote, Star Wars: KOTORs (especially the first) are awesome too. A person saying this, who hates Star Wars in general.

-awesome mods for F3, like Children of the Wasteland (solid 1.2 GB and finally, I can have my nice post-apocalyptic lolis to save the post-apocalyptic future - or bring it down to its ashes >:]) and Fallout Wanderers Edition (FWE) - in the latter, the RPG becomes a real "human entity simulator" too; more lethal combat system, more realistic sneaking, more realistic injuries and addictions, radiation and crippled bones mean a more serious problem, you can find chems and ammo much rarely, food is more expensive, EVERYTHING has weight, you HAVE TO eat, drink, sleep, otherwise you slowly die (you can notice gradational minuses clog together on attributes : )), the system scores the protein and nutritional value of the food you eat (you can roast many of them with a mobile campfire, and their values change) and calculates your weight-->you can lose and gain weight depending on your diet, how much you run or walk, what incumbrance you carry, extra items and so on.

Yep, if you call yourself a true RPG-fan, SW:KOTORs are basic experience. Thank God, that the story takes place 4000 years before the movies, so I don't need to hire an imperial AT walker the squash Yoda into the snow. : D

You played a rpg before with touch controls? Tried Avadon: Black Fortress on my Xoom and even though I thought the UI was good, I stopped playing after 30 minutes and never touched it again. Need M/KB controls to have better control.

Sucks, but they've made the right decision.
The new release date is November 30th, which funnily enough coincides with bg1's original release back in '98.
