On November 29, 2016 Sweden jukebox ran Quake on easy mode in 12:17, beating the old record of 12:25 set nearly a year ago by Finland Elgu

Grabbed the demos and rendered this up last night. Enjoy.

Hi guys. I need some good eyes to judge the video quality of two demos.

I've rendered two demos 6 times each, with each video having a slightly different encoder quality. For each test, can you tell the difference and which video is the best and worst? Please check them out in 1080p since that requires the highest bitrate.

Test 1:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV2wlwfXvd8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2Hqq90c8Rk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM8SOCVZB-I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkGjZz-oBZw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbE9Cu1mVU0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu69gJESMjg

Test 2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsT9yaFPBBM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5obw-nCPxk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAEeXudIQ08
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF_T9xm3CP0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74XTSGFeFbo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBiyl23UkOg

I basically want to adjust the quality of igmdb.org encoder output. Right now it creates gigantic 30+Mbit/sec mp4s which result in huge downloads (2GB for a 10 minute render). After going through YouTube the quality gets reduced anyway so a high quality video output doesn't really mean much. I'm trying to see if reducing the encoder quality is even noticeable.

Thank you.

IGMDb demo renderer config (19 comments)
Posted by MaverickMSG @ 14:33 CST, 3 January 2015 - iMsg
Hi guys. I made a few improvements to the demo renderer, the most recent being the ability for a person submitting a demo to be able to set certain cvars for the renderer. For instance, being able to render a demo with r_picmip 3 rather than 0. My question for you guys is:

What other Q3/QL cvars should be exposed and allowed to be changed?
What values for the cvar should be allowed?
If you know, a quick description of what the cvar is/does.

I'm mainly looking to cvars that will get a fair amount of use, rather than an obscure cvar that will be ignored by most users.

FYI:
Q3 renders use q3mme
QL renders use wolfcamql
Any cvars that either of those two engines use are valid.

Note that the cvars can be mod-specific, like for cpma, defrag, etc.

First of all this will DEFINITELY be my last contribution to the quake world. Everything notable has been edited and Q3A just left my hdd.

This time it's pure cpm. Out of my own 250 "best-of" demos I ended up with the best... 70? Hence the length. Again a lot of first person mixed with occasional third person cams. I've orientated myself to movies such as Velocity and part 2 and I totally love all those power_of_heavy_metal competition movies over at youtube. They include dreamy but yet positive and energetic music combined with awesome first person runs.
Since quake is always a bit about experimenting this movie is split into two parts: Radiation 2 and Radiation 3. They are mixed together nicely with one audio track made out of releases by "Solar Fields" so that there is a straight consistency in the whole film.

So you can expect 28 minutes packed with nice records (there must be some skill being involved since 2004...), sweet shortcuts on well-known maps, those interesting map transitions you know from "MAZE" (except that they took me 5 days and not 3 years ;)), and encounters of a lot of old school maps, connected with a beautiful soundtrack. Enjoy!

Again: After a decade of Quake and Defrag I finally say farewell and hope you enjoy this last piece of mine. I thank you for all those joyful hours of gaming and it was fun to always aim for better times and beat the others. Without defrag I wouldn't be the one I am now (sounds dramatic but quake gave me for example this broad taste of music).

Huge thanks go out to Maverick who supported me by hosting IGMDb and posting news.

On youtube and here you can get the full movie meaning Radiation2 and 3 running right behind each other. You can also get part 2 and 3 singled from the download section. If you put both into a playlist they will just play fine like the full movie.
Since my network connection is too slow you should try out those two high quality parts; a link to the high quality full movie will follow.

The package of the demos of this movie and a lot of others (demos since 2004 from players all around the world) can be found over at the q3df forums (link provided later)

From Bliccer - So! Here I am again. That was a short break. The reason why I am back is. I found all my old demos from 2004 until now. And I thought hey, I'm creating a movie for another person, so why not do yourself a favor and invest some time into your own wasting of time for a decade. Don't get me wrong, not every minute was a waste but I already wrote something about this last time.

IGMDb Grand Opening (66 comments)
Posted by MaverickMSG @ 14:40 CDT, 8 August 2014 - iMsg
After about 2.5 years of development, I'm pleased to announce that the Internet Gaming Movie Database is now open to everyone. The requirement to log in has been taken down so anyone can check out the site. Feel free to find your favorite video, register an account, and give it a rating or leave a comment.

Through the extraordinary contributions by Hungary mdv, Netherlands TheBeats, Germany yks, Germany Bliccer, Canada KittenIgnition, Russia ent, Serbia zeroql, and Germany cityy the site's layout is complete and the database has 1300+ videos in it, almost all with downloads.

And if you missed the announcement the demo-to-video rendering service is part of IGMDb as well. Large improvements have been made, most notably rendering of QL demos is about 50% faster and a bunch of new games have been added to the support list. As of right now, 3000+ demos have been rendered to the YouTube channel.

Shout out to everyone in the mIRC #maverickservers channel; everyone there has at least touched this project in some way.

Maze - a 15 minute long cpma CPM movie closing a gaming chapter in the life of a German DeFRaG player who started in 2005. With this movie two defragger, Maze and Bliccer, want to say thank you and goodbye to the community.

This movie comes in all kind of flavours. Everything available in HQ, MQ, and LQ. A standard name & time hud, topviews of the maps for orientation and the COMPLETEPACK, which includes the topviews as a second video track, input subtitles, extra clips, all redesigned maps (you can use these for your own demos) and maze' demos.

Movie download is preferred to YouTube streaming, since latter doesn't support 50fps. Of course the author recommends downloading the completepack and starting the full experience by reading the info file inside.

Also a gigantic thank you goes out to the judges: NineX, Nzr0, ddk, Anthem, Shadow, and cityy. Without these guys donating their time this never would have wrapped up.

The map pack is downloadable now and there are screenshots! (some are included in the judging thread) as well.

NOTE: "spenctf1" and "Zen" are QL maps and will not load in Q3. "sanctorium" runs in both Q3 and QL; just make sure to use the correct PK3 file with the correct game.

Demo database (9 comments)
Posted by MaverickMSG @ 08:24 CDT, 24 September 2013 - iMsg
So after collecting a crapload of demos I've started parsing through them to make them a little easier to handle. I'm using a script to grab information out of each demo that you can then sort on. Theoretically after i get through all of them you could query the database and search (for example) for every demo of gellehsak from padawan's pov on cpm22.

Right now the following information is collected from each demo:
-who was playing and spectating
-who was taking the demo (the pov)
-the final scores (and final team scores if applicable)
-the mapname
-the server name
-the gametype

My question to you guys is, what other information would you want to know and/or search on across all the demos? Would you want to see a list of the frags and what weapon was used or is that not useful? Would you want to know what chat occurred is that not useful?

Note that certain things like the time the demo was taken or the event the demo was taken at isn't always accurate or even available.

Quake 3/Quake Live Demo Renderer (223 comments)
Posted by MaverickMSG @ 14:54 CDT, 8 June 2013 - iMsg
In May I started working on a project after being annoyed at how difficult and drawn-out the process was to convert a Q3/QL demo into a movie. As a result, I now present the Quake 3/Quake Live Demo Renderer.

In a nutshell, you upload a Q3/QL demo, wait a few minutes (or hours!), and out pops a 1920x1080 30fps x264-encoded MP4 for you to download. No messing with WolfCamQL or Quake 3 and no sweating over config files; the server does the heavy lifting.

This project would not have been possible without Hungary mdv and his feedback and configs. He's made it all possible.

Update: There is a YouTube channel now.

No Shave November Fundraiser (6 comments)
Posted by MaverickMSG @ 21:20 CDT, 14 October 2012 - iMsg
So I was chatting with my dad recently about the upcoming November and how we weren't going to shave again per the month's tradition. The subject came up that it might be a neat fundraising idea for cancer research and fun community activity.

Anyway, I wanted to see if this seems like something anyone here might be interested in. I also figured that charities to benefit from this could be both Childs Play (because we all love video games) and an anti-prostate canecr foundation, like the American Cancer Society, Prostate Cancer Foundation, etc.

My thoughts are to setup a facebook page (or similar), and collect $5 from each participant, which in turn gets donated at the end to the charities. The $5 gets your picture on the page along with any status updates showing your increasing beard-burliness. The goal is to earn money to research while having some fun not shaving.

So some questions I have are:
-Does this sound like something you'd do?
-Would you change any of the above or add/remove things to make it better?
-Is the $5 amount appropriate? Am I missing anything?

Let me know what you guys think.

UnrealNorth 2 has been a long time coming, with various movie-makers stepping up to do the title then losing the motivation or opportunity to continue. Vlad has had plenty of both and so is the one to finally bring us this epic movie for our great site and community. Many thanks to him for his time and effort!

Around 80 demos have been used from 30 players of the UnrealNorth community.Vlad will be taking a break from movie-making for a while, so enjoy his latest creation until such time as he decides to make another.

I bring to you my personal fourth creation, containing mostly DM17 rocket frags from the last year, This project started just after the release of Fragger's Rock which was created by Cliche. My intention for this project was to have a fast-paced video showcasing mid-air rocket content. Show Projectile is 'on' however the mme effects file I'm using for this has the smoke set at Black and is hard to see on Space Maps.

If you're not one for Space Maps, then don't stream or download and don't bother posting useless negativity, I'm up for constructive criticism that will help future projects.

Quake done 100% Quickest is a 100% completion speedrun of Quake on Nightmare skill, going through the levels as fast as possible, killing every single monster and finding every single secret in every single map. The speedrun was performed by members of the Quake done Quick team and this movie was put together by Jozsef "j0zzz" Szalontai. This is the sequel to the very popular and outdated 'Quake done 100% Quicker' which was released way back on the 5th of January, 2000. Speedrunning has come a looong way since then!
