not really much to say, not really interested in saying anything.. pretty tired of that boring, broken warp fest of a game tbh

have so many dozens of other examples of this kind of crap that happens constantly. I mean it's just unplayable. broken game.

I just got a 2014 Razer Abyssus thingie (18 comments)
Posted by daryl @ 17:30 CDT, 9 September 2014 - iMsg
apparently it's a mouse. I bought it to replace my old Abyssus because the clicker stopped working, yet again (no, I didn't abuse it.)

I'm not fond of it "forcing" me to use this Razer Synapse software to change DPI/polling rate/&c., but I haven't had any issues with it so far. unfortunately, it doesn't seem to let me select 450dpi, which is what I was using before? unless the very sketchy "in-betweens" are actually incremental values, I only have the option of 400 or 500.

and this doesn't translate at all to the mouse feeling I had before in Quakelive, where I was using in_mouse2, no acceleration, and sensitivity 3.5. I've had to up the sensitivity to 5+ for a similar feel. what gives? any ideas?

axi is a random south american player who plays on american servers with 130 ping and hits 40% lg (he used to lose every game to everyone ever, like his venezuelan clanmate txevolution.) axi gets destroyed in this public ffa game. fun for the whole family.

hello esreality users (67 comments)
Posted by daryl @ 16:30 CDT, 21 October 2011 - iMsg
I have been using this website in its various incarnations since ~1999, when it was more or less Shayne's House of Demos, but mostly at the point it was called XSReality (version 2). I have been one of the more well known users of the forums ever since then, and at times I have been banned, on probation, regular user, trusted user, VIP, user administrator, site administrator, head administrator, and director. many of these privileges were granted by Sujoy himself, as well as other high-level admins and known figures.

I have, in fact, helped Sujoy in the earlier stages of ESReality (then known as esportsaddicts) on some questions of site security, advising him a minor amount and making some suggestion on bits of code. for whatever reasons--probably because I am outspoken and very blunt--many have regarded me perpetually as some sort of troll, idiot, or flamebait-er, or whatever. this has been a constant for many years. I should not expect to be unique in this regard, as the nature of ESReality in general lends itself toward that kind of polarisation. that said, it is not unknown to me that I would easily rank among the more notable apparent "trolls" of the website. regardless of this, I have maintained an interest in this community ever since its inception, or I wouldn't be here. many times some of the regulars have tried to run me off for whatever reasons, but those attempts have always failed. I have been, however, much less active in the past few years, and particularly the past one or two, because I've been growing up and focusing on other things. still I have not deserted the site, and though I feel it has been on a steep decline for many, many years now, in my assessment originating from some administrative decisions made by Sujoy around the 2003-2004 era or so, it is in my estimation evident that things have very recently taken a rather sharp turn for the worse.

if it hasn't been made clear to anyone yet, the official "head admin" of the site for the interim since Sujoy has moved onto other things has been a guy buy the name of Demiurge, aka Yeltsin. I am not sure how he ever acquired this position in the first place as he was always universally regarded as an idiot even moreso than myself, but stranger things have happened. part of the reason for this, presumably, is his willingness to work on the website backend and maintain it, coupled with his apparent work experience in related fields and his longstanding position and recognition in the community. that decision is certainly question however you look at it, yet it is the way things are. but it has long been known to me that, while I personally could not be anything further from a "troll," Yeltsin is exactly this, and should hold no position of authority or autonomy over anything, anywhere, ever, let alone the community that, for better or worse, I've had some hand in making and have some incentive in seeing the continuation of.

I have also long been a close acquaintance of Demiurge's troll-friend and collaborator, Brandan, who has in recent weeks seemingly gone totally mentally unstable, and it is actually rather depressing to me as someone who once considered him a very close friend, but I don't live in the past, and as has been mentioned, I do not sugar coat things or distort the truth just for the sake of social cohesion. I have in fact collaborated with Brandan on many projects over the years, including some to improve upon or compete with ESReality itself, as we have always shared philosophical attitudes towards websites and the expression of speech, particularly as regards the community we both knew best--ESReality. it is unfortunate for me to see the way his attitude has shifted in recent times, and how willing he is to openly disregard the very integrity he once held in such esteem, all for the sake of saying haha, it's the internet and I'm a moron.

this is a call to Sujoy, to the ESReality community in general, and all the longstanding users of it who have any interest in seeing it through to something more than a whimpering death at the hands of some festering-assholes of a bunch of "admins" jerking off all over the screen willy-nilly just because they can. these autocrats' troll post about some decision to censor content is obviously meant at least partly in jest, but it demonstrates a completely disgusting degree of immaturity which I don't think should be so eagerly expressed by anyone claiming to represent this website, and I am even more disappointed that any ESReality administrator would censor any kind of post just because he can, even if it's for "laughs."

I have in other threads demonstrated my work with Brandan in the past on some alternative to ESReality, which you can view at:

In light of these developments, I am interested in pursuing this further in case there is anyone on this website who still gives enough of a shit about it for it to be something more than the playground of some 25-30 year old men who want to act as if they're 12. further, I call on all of you, even if you are unconfident in my ability to provide such a service, to petition Sujoy himself to wrest control from the schoolchildren, and bring this site back to where it should be.

it should be made clear that I haven't written this with any sort of clear "plan" in mind for improving the site. I do have ideas for doing so, but the main point in writing what I've written was an attempt to gauge you guys' opinions on the way things are going right now. I am personally pretty unsettled by these developments, and I have made an effort to minimise going into too much detail about personal issues I may have with involved parties, but I've done as much as I felt was necessary to bring attention to precisely what's going on--who is an admin and what they're doing--for anyone who was unaware, and to provide a little insight into the historicity of these things and why they might be the way they are.

if any of you guys feel similarly unconfident in the direction of ESReality, please let me know your thoughts here. I'm open to all kinds of input. I'm not pretending like I have any answers or that I can provide an efficient solution, but I did have to note my project that was underway for bringing about some changes I'd personally wanted to see for some time. regardless if you agree with me on anything philosophical, if you do have concerns about the site itself and particularly these recent events, we can all work to achieve change through whatever methods are available to us, and that may be something as simple as getting in touch with the guy who actually owns and runs this site. I don't think any of us (apart from the real trolls) truly want to see its demise.

dubstep is absolutely awful. alright, that's probably not true; I'm not big on genres in the first. I listen to music of all sorts of genres so long as it strikes my fancy. not to say I'm not a pretentious shitbag, though. hence my "post rock" habits.

while we're mindlessly posting videos of mostly music (and sometimes also video), and feeling entirely excluded, I feel it's my turn to shit all over this website with a few of some of my most liked post rock songs:

the evpatoria report - naptalan

youth pictures of florence henderson - our door handles stopped moving years ago

explosions in the sky - your hand in mine

explosions in the sky - the moon is down

explosions in the sky - the birth and death of day

explosions in the sky - last known surroundings (from their new album)

godspeed you! black emperor - sleep

godspeed you! black emperor - east hastings

this will destroy you - threads

this will destroy you - happiness we're all in it together

a silver mt zion - the triumph of our tired eyes

laura - bobik is in amerika

meanwhile, back in communist russia... - no cigar

sigur ros - untitled #1

sigur ros - hoppipolla

mogwai - you don't know jesus

god is an astronaut - suicide by star

mono - the flames beyond the cold mountain

as the stars fall - no good deed goes unpunished

tortoise - salt the skies (does this count?)

maserati - pyramid of the sun

jonsi - howl

kashiwa daisuke - stella

yndi halda - dash and blast

and so I watch you from afar - clench fists, bla bla bla

and so I watch you from afar - beautifuluniversemasterchampion

do make say think - the universe

johann johannsson - ibm 1401 processing unit

maybeshewill - I'm in awe, amadeus

maybeshewill - co-conspirators

maybeshewill - in another life, when we are both cats

red sparowes - alone and unaware, bla bla bla

russian circles - geneva

I've got exactly eighteen thirty million more so be glad I'm stopping now cause I'm starting to be insanely bored. also I didn't include any mathy crossover stuff. don't waste your time listening to all of that shit unless you're a huge nerd.

Quake baseball (5 comments)
Posted by daryl @ 04:53 CDT, 4 July 2011 - iMsg
Doesn't this share a striking resemblance to an outfielder extending his mitt to secure the Red Sox yet another World Series win? If you're a Yankee's fan, fuck you.

You could organize this is a team sport. The map is The Longest Yard. The offense chooses a "batter" to stand on the railgun platform and fire rockets toward the quad carrier (defending player) as he goes up the jump pad toward the mega health. If the quad carrier is not gibbed over some number of bounces, the
offense has struck out. When the offense succeeds, the defending player's corpse will gib, hurling the quad damage to the floor of the map. The defending team will have several players standing below to attempt catching the quad as it is in play. If the item is caught before hitting the ground, that is also an out. Each quad damage cycle represents one inning.

Baseball is America's #1 sport. With republicrats like Sarah Palin and other dumb-minded Christian literalists gaining ground, liberals could gain the loyalty of the electorate by hosting Quake Baseball fundraisers, thereby bringing legitimacy back to American politics and simultaneously re-establishing the dominance of Quake as a competitive video game.

How to play back QL demos

the # in the demo URL has to be replaced with %23 for it to be downloadable:
sorry. that bug should really be fixed.

I've been lagging really badly lately in QL and was just trying to find a fun FFA game. I infact only have one channel of sound and am again on a crappy small res CRT @ 100Hz because my 120Hz LCD is out of commission and my headphones are broken, and having played a grueling series of duels yesterday, I wanted to settle down to some mindless, relaxing fun, when all of a sudden I came upon this guy [KcQ] KENTAR, who was clearly "playing down" to beat up on a bunch of lesser skilled players. to make matters worse, he was obviously abusing his advantage of having 5 ping and repeatedly camping every quad damage. it was quite sad to see, but what made it more infuriating is how he talked down to the new players (or so I'm told--I didn't capture it in this demo, but I'd seen it before).

I felt it was my duty to put this low-skilled player in his place. this is not a good game, being that I had 65 or 70 ping to his 5, and I'm lagging on top of that (I've recently discovered that it's frame lag; can't even play bots), but it's a victory for justice, in my mind. punks like this constantly terrorize public servers in some attempt to obtain personal gratification. I've had a history with this guy.. basically, I repeatedly beat him in FFA games and he seems to get really angry about this to the point of insulting me and making up stories that, frankly, sound completely crazy. for instance, he just asked me if "bud" had killed himself, and if I was still trying "IPv6 reverse proxy lookups." I have no idea what any of this means, but he additionally threatened to send my demos in (to syncerror? jesus? I don't know) for apparently threatening people's lives (this must be illegal in kansas or something, where I suspect kentaro is from), so I made sure to do just that for the camera. enjoy.

also in case zoo doesn't approve of my demo for entirely fascistic/french reasons: edit: link removed because zoo has approved demo files !!!

I hope this keeps all of my fans happy until I can fix my lag or I beat up stunt at quakecon.

How to play back QL demos

yo. I'm posting a demo, as you can see. it's gonna get mad zero votes. mostly I wanna be popular and I'm also very lonely, but I happened to think this was a pretty cool game. maybe I can stir up more jamerio or visje or whatever that guy's name is rage. more importantly, I'm sincerely curious if anyone else can notice the lag I'm experiencing in this demo? it's the best game I've played in a while, as I've hardly played in the past 2-3 months because of this issue, but it looks like everything on my screen is all jittery, and most of my shots go through (well, normally they do--they seem to be precision guided in this particular game). I changed my IP address just an hour or two ago and played this game, and it seems to have helped .. but now everyone else looks like they're warping. QL is broken, aye????? mates?

download link until my amazing video game replay is inevitably approved:

update: added a game I just played which I felt was pretty good as well.

and I'm posting it in the "ESReality Site" category because it has some tangential relation to the "ESReality Site." this post took no effort on my part whatsoever, because I am merely echoing something that has found its way into my life through no action of my own.

I just wanted everyone to know that I've received an iMsg from a very special person on this very website, and I'm sure that I must be particularly unique in this regard, probably as a result of my undeniably charming personality.

an imaginably lovely, clearly very young and fertile female named lizzy had this to say to me:

iMessage sent @ 07:15 CDT 12 May 2011 - lizzy01 is offline

as you understand, this is a particularly intriguing event, and was met with much joy by yours truly, for I am perpetually lonely and socially stunted. I am so happy that I've found my lizzy, and now I can be content in my life. I thank God for his wisdom and guidance. my faith never wavered, though many times have I been tempted by Satan's wicked ways. I > Jamerio @ FFA (281 comments)
Posted by daryl @ 11:50 CDT, 18 March 2011 - iMsg
guys, I just want to make it clear that I am the best FFA player in North America. Jamerio couldn't hold a candle. I'm sorry if that upsets you, buddy, but you know it to be true. search your soul.

I thought that in light of recent discussions of QL free for all, I would provide some much needed FFA material, for there hasn't been any such thing since czm's showing at Quakecon many aeons ago. my methods are well-defined, my ESReality persona honed, and I find no reason to waste the site's time by publishing another major demo, which I could well do, so I am instead taking to the forums. consider yourselves lucky, for if you are the type to decry such blatant time-wasting, you needn't continue any further.

all those years ago, czm's skill was jaw-dropping, but having watched that particular game several times over the past few months, I am no longer impressed. since everyone seems to love silly rail whoring, I'm uploading my "rail test" made just after the hitboxes were increased. rail is not my weapon--I am an lg player--and I don't have anywhere near the rail aim of strenx, toxic, stermy, or cypher, but as far as public FFA goes, I think this is a good demonstration of what's possible. (I have much more dominant performances, but this one is fun.)

Jamerio, let's see you do this. if you want to compare FFA times, I can provide demos of myself winning in 2 minutes and 50 seconds. but I think you will be satisfied.

tyryl and g1play3r (challengers), two of North America's top cyberathletes, battle it out against the champion, justanothernewb (champion), who is coming straight off impressive victories over e-Sports veterans Jamerio and outlaw. the American players' 120ms latency makes for an exciting two-match series, widely acclaimed by notable cyberathlete fans such as sandal "Vo0" kasjapper and jonathan "wendy's" fatality. watch the demos to see who comes out on top!

I must say that I'm impressed. I'm not even kidding. I'm sure it takes A LOT of time and effort finding out what's been posted, then making sure nothing that was posted by me gets approved. despite the fact that bantown is sort of a non-serious troll organization (what set of rational, utopian idealists aren't?), this is something i wish i had written.
i was actually thinking of writing something quite similar the other day, but now there's simply no need.
it gets worse as it goes along, but it starts off well and delivers it message efficiently.
for anyone interested in computer security and freedom, i'd recommend having a read of it.

A myriad threads making fun of Jamerio? I don't care what sort of hardware malfunctions you have, neither do I care what your mental state is at a given moment. You do not lose 51-8 unless you're total shit. Granted, TooGoood is an amazing player, but Jamerio was also pasted by Vorvavoo. That's really just a pathetic showing (not to discredit Vorvavoo).
If Jamerio ever retained any modocum of skill (brain), then there is no way he could ever be defeated that badly by a ehh-slightly-above-average player.
