Our beloved ESports observers and professional gamers, you shall be delighted to know that the most important community pro has been interviewed by a ProMode enthusiast, web casting sportscaster and twitch star, xeroslayer.

The original platform twitch is not great for podcast, and quality is pretty bad due to volume differences, but I compressed, EQed and filtered the audio, so the end file a whooping 2h30m of wisdom.

There was an interesting discussion about design of the QC. I think some many good points were maid about what the wrong approach to designing the game is, such as not designing by committee and firing someone. Or that makaveli hasn't really been playing the game, and that's why hes not the best expert.

Another relevant point was the hiring of incompetent people, that was probably the closest to truth of the matter. The truth of the matter is that a designer with a proven track record of designing fun, but balanced, competitive game is not in charge.

If you look at CS:GO, or just CS, didn't they hire the creators of CS? How long has Blizzard been tweaking StarCraft? Somehow, they also have a proven track record.

arQon seems like the closest [id] have come to hiring someone with relevant expertise to multiplayer design. Q3 was team effort, but that was when McGee, Paul Steed( was it ?) Carmack, and other major experienced talent were on the project.

Yeah, someone should get fired, but someone with relevant development experience should be making the key decisions, not just a progamer, or a club of progamers.

tens of thousand playing dota at high level???????????? the top ranked idk 1000 players are complaining that their games are trash when matched with with lower ranks. games undergone some massive changes to help trash in recent years. wtf u talking about not hard did u elarn how to lasthit in practice mode and decided ur legit oh my gosh im triggered

comments nature is in a direct response to what xerosawyers saying during the podcast. they were commenting on toxicity in games where xerosawyer proposed the idea of de-platforming or muting or whatever for being mean. i think the idea behind it was to change the way people interact with others.

2nd part of the comment is really pointless to get into unless u've some understanding the mechanics of dota. he said dota is an easy game where there are tens of thousands of high-level players. whether he thinks dota is easy is kinda subjective, but i dare say he's wrong on both accounts due to just ignorance.

i hope this helps u understand so that i can go back to rolling my face across the keyboard and make indistinguishable !!

Yes that helps. I think xero is vastly underestimating the 'depth' of quake, mistakingly suggesting quake can be made as appealing as dota, which I think is nonsense.

i know it helps, toxicity in dota dropped by 35% across the board when they implemented communication bans. still dont like it ???

yeah i dont think quake can because dota can be played at garbage tier with a good degree of immersion and at pro level where its a lot less immersive and much more about numbers !!

Great podcast, probably the best on AFPS I've heard (not that there have been many). Are any of the earlier episodes around or worth listening to?

EDIT: See the others on twitch too. Any chance for uploads to sound cloud or a more podcast friendly site? Triggers me listening to podcasts on twitch cause I'm using an insane amount of bandwidth for no reason and they also have music parts blocked?

Hope you keep them up and keep doing non-promode guests as well. I know Thorin also does AFPS Quake podcasts but honestly I enjoyed this much more because it was more free. Thorin is too focused on competitive stuff while the Quake community has so much more to it.

hey, for anybody who listened, xero and i speculated about whether or not makaveli is working with the QC team. for anybody who was wondering whether or not he is, the man himself spoke up in another thread to point out that he isn't.

No, I am not affiliated with id software, not hired by them, not paid by them. In any way shape or form. No, I have zero input on game development and tournament structure. Zero input. I have no idea where you get these ideas from. I'm just playing the game like everybody else.

Quake could have 300k players. Stacraft 2 was shit from a product design POV, yet it still got this many players this many years after original release. Whereas all deathmatch games have been complete messes in terms of product design. So if a game wasn't a mess... It could be decently sized. Not moba sized... But decently big.
