Why do you want to read it again - what did he say in those particular posts?

I have been looking into old articles, columns, interviews etc. because I am interested in digging into old external aspects of competitive gaming. I guess it could be considered some personal research.

Threads like these always keep reminding me that there are a lot of 'true gamers' on these forums and they long after the oldschool days when stuff was more real and competitive and true to what e-sports should be. Nowadays it's all about the money and it has become a multimillion dollar industry. Not saying the latter is bad, but it feels a lot of unnecessary concepts got added to the whole competitive gaming 'scene' which make it feel less true to what the 'scene' used to be, and where it actually originated from.

An example I can give you is with how 'gaming' mice and stuff evolved with all these LEDS and glitter glamour and 16k colour shit. Back in the days it was about the function, quality and performance. But since it became an industry you see companies degressing in the actual build-quality. Where are the WMO's of today? A mice unparalelled and still used by people who still have eye for classics. And one of those people is OP and probably you and me.

We need to stay strong comrades against this mainstream tyranny! Stay elite! Stay ESR!

This community deserves some love. Next time you feel like trolling somebody or REKTING him with some witty blabber, try to be nice instead and get this community growing. Tell your friends about it. Let people appreciate true gaming again.

Part of that is because 'e-sports' is much more a marketing engine than anything else. At the same time if it weren't then maybe a lot of people that currently make a living out of it probably wouldn't be able to. There's a lot more to it I think, but for a different time.

On the other hand, it really is nice seeing how e-sports is 10 times bigger than what it was in the good old days, and how people now can live off doing what they love the most in life. I hope one day it becomes socially accepted, even.

I don't agree with the WMO part. Nowadays there are like 20 alternatives to it, all technically better, some with a similar shape. Only rapha still uses the WMO: all the former Quake pros switched a long time ago. Nowadays people don't only use one mouse (a 2016WMO) because now there are enough alternatives to suit preferences.

I think the ESR database got corrupted/deleted a few times over the years and seeing as he was most active in 2000-2001, I believe most of that stuff did not make the cut.

Maybe some of the old ESR admins have a private backup.

I was afraid of something like that. I think he might have posted up till 2003-04 but I'm not sure.
