For entertainment value it sure would be something. But do you also share the view that TDM maps should have more buttons activating different lava, spike or pressure traps?

Anyway I promised not to tell anyone but cityy is actually working on a TDM map called "Temple to Nined"

I'm completely not a fan of buttons and traps, and except for BS on dm14 (if you can even consider it a trap), at least not of any of the ones that have been implemented in maps to date. At least none come to mind. I'm sure some day a map will come where such a thing actually fits in nicely.

No anyway, my reason for getting Nined as a judge would be his attention to detail on the map's geometry. Because let's face it, a map without a dash of shamanic is a shit map.

nice, kudos to the event and the authors.

FACE IT should do final event and have judges over skype, debating the maps and why some things work and some things don't. Its like a week away, cmon throw it together DDK.

A video showing the maps would be really nice considering many don't have Q3 installed and thus can't check the maps out.

Is it only me or does the quality of the maps that made it into the final judgement stage seem lower than in the competitions before this one? The maps still look great don't get me wrong, but from those screenshots and a little bit of looking around the forum-threads of said maps I can't find any entry that has the complexity and visual detail of cityy's, bst's and ShadoW's past works for the previous installments of this competition.

I can just speak for my map and yeah when i compare it to oldwr contests it definitely doesnt look that fancy. Like u can see from the name "First Pitch" its actually my first time finishing a map and i actually put most of my effort into making it playable and competetive. Anyway im just happy i could compete in this contest and that ql might get some fresh maps! Gl to all the other competitors

And if they are good in terms of gameplay, there is nothing wrong with them being not as detailed as some other previous entries. Most of the players turn down gfx anyway. Also detail can be added later when it is certain that a map will make it's way into QL. Congrats on your first finished map anyway, I never could do that, always lost my motivation in the middle of the process (mostly because I am just bad at texturing). Hope to see some of the maps in QL at some point!

Fracked freezes q3 when "awaiting snapshots"
smktourney1 makes q3 crash when loading.

tried to run them in baseq3 1.32c, hunkmegs set to 512 (otherwise jvr3ctf1 doesn't load, but at least gives me a good error message)

"first pitch" is just for ql so i guess it wont run at q3

I fear smktourney1 has some trouble with win seven systems.

Yeah, can't try any of the non-zipped maps for some reason.

They are compressed in a different way to be run with QL, so I get why they aren't even found be Q3.

I get this in QL

FS_LoadZipFile: failed to load pak file.

I suggest grabbing the latest version of the maps from the forums. Some of them were fixed / updated later on. Also, Sanctorium, SpenCTF1, FirstPitch & Zen were compiled for QL since it was a Quake Live & Quake 3 Mapping competition.

I know right, I completely share your thoughts about the useless textures & geometry. It is the hardest thing to pull off while giving the illusion that it is actually useful.

I wish that everything in the world was simplified to minimize the standard for futile elements.

Actually, I would have probably removed the 4 towers as well since they are wasting some good potential space, one big block or nothing.

I am also a big fan of Cityy and since I discovered that he was studying in Architecture, I realized that perhaps I should do the same so that I can show to every human beings my perception of what a perfect world should look like.

Quake isnt CS. its not COD. And its not real life. Quake maps dont have to be pretty, because the graphics in´this game even at max is limited. Useless textures in quake are as much use as your version of the Taj Mahal. Smooth maps are good for jumping. There is alot of boxes, grates and that kind of stupid shit in his maps.

Ok everyone, to be able to play smktourney1, try to load via normal ways (practice->team deathmatch->smktourney1->set bots and rules->start

No need to complicate via console commands. The map runs ok, but drops 'FATAL: Out Of Levels' everytime on the console. Just ignore that, it's fixed on later versions of the map.
