I am in September and have done two full marathons already, all for Cancer Research - over the past three years I have raised over six thousand pounds - however, your oh so sharp e-wit counts for considerably more. How dare I retort.

pretty much every cancer type you can think of. there are a few prominent examples where extrinsic factors are the main cause and account for most of the cases. on the other hand, if you have a hereditary mutation in lets say a tumor suppressor or a DNA damage repair gene, the likelihood of developing cancer because of a second, random mutation is dramatically increased. and there are enough cases in which neither a preexisting mutation nor extrinsic factors are main causes of tumor development.

Don't over-exaggerate, you can increase the risk but it's not like cancer is the next logical step to smoking as lying out in the sun is to getting burnt skin.

Maybe for brits but for those of us with a darker complexion than elmer's glue it's not like being out in regular sun for an extended period of time necessarily equates with burning.
