The CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid seems like an awesome keyboard, thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately, they stated to not sell them in Germany, which means our layout will be excluded. Anyway, there is still a chance of a limited shipment towards Germany, but without mention of the layout and used keys, since the red switches are exclusive for some regions.

Tenkeyless keyboards are the best invention ever made after the wheel.

Haven't tried cherry red switches, since those were very scarce until lets say 2 years ago, but they seem real nice for gaming use.

Wrist rest....nah.

There are plenty of keyboards with PS/2 NKRO support, which is the best port for a keyboard. If the computer doesn't support it (mostly laptops) you can always use a passive adapter and it'll register up to 6 keys + 4 modifiers at the same time, which is more than enough.

1000hz is not recommended.

In short, get a filco. I'm a bit outdated on this topic but those were the very best ones for gaming use.

edit: Just checked elitekeyboards and it seems they don't sell them anymore but Leopolds, which is one of the many spin offs that appeared lately. No idea where you can get one now.

Just looked the Leopold keyboard up on Elitekeyboards, it has just as the CM Storm keyboard a great layout but unfortunately lacks the gimmicks, though shares the same problems with it: The Return-Key is small, left Shift is big, X, Y and all the special characters are interchanged.
Is the 1000 HZ polling rate unrecommended because of high CPU load?

You could ask on geekhack, but thing is there isn't a "perfect" keyboard so you'll have to get used to some things. The closes thing to a perfect kb (since it's a matter of personal preference) would be a better quality HHKB2 with arrow keys like the japanese version.

1000hz doesn't bring much to the table for a kb (and for most mice for that matter). In the end it's just unnecessary cpu load, which affects every PC but most importantly laptops since most of them can't handle a 1000hz keyboard with a 1000hz mouse.

If I were you I'd ask on geekhack first, but having in mind there are some features you should try going for, for example tenkeyless and easy to actuate switches, and others that you should avoid no matter what they tell you, for example gaming keyboards.

I recently acquired the Tt (Thermaltake) eSPORTS Meka G1.

I am not sure if this keyboard can be acquired with german layout, but that is for you to research, should you choose to.

It cost me what amounts to 95€, which I consider a goddamn good price, especially considering what I have to say in the following segments:

I must say, I'm impressed by it. It's not of tenkeyless design at all obviously, but it is neatly sized nevertheless, and is not of further encumbrance even though I feared that myself (as I wanted tenkeyless aswell originally, but the priceyness of the ones I found was too much for me).

If you are anything like me when it comes to peripherals of this sort, which it certainly sounds like, I am almost certain you would like this keyboard very much. It takes getting used to if you come from a regular membrane keyboard but it is absolutely worth the adaptation time - which in my case was only approximately 3 hours of using the keyboard for both typing and gaming.


Firstly, it has cherry mx blacks. I am not sure if this is something that makes you want to completely ignore this keyboard, but either way, I have to say that I currently like them better than cherry mx reds, but I know myself well enough to realize that one day I'll probably want reds instead. For that I can switch them with the blacks instead of buying a new one, depending on its condition when that time comes.

It's got USB (6KRO I believe) with PS2 adapter on it, which yields full NKRO (tested it the day I got it, just to make sure), and it's got a little hub for small USB connected peripherals. Think flashdrives, USB coffee cup heaterplates, and such. No powersource, so any external bus harddrives won't do. It also has input jacks for microphone and headset which at first seems neat, but in reality is a bit unnecessary. You don't pay for it though, I think, and I've heard that it has a tendency to bring a distinct annoying humming sound both in microphone and headset. It's cord is a really thick one. It feels heavy duty, and IS too. The keyboard itself is boasting a good solid weight, and there is no flexing of the keyboard so you'll definately not feel like it's going to break if you pick it up and shake it like a madman, raging over a lost match. - Also, it has a wristrest as you can see from the picture. Detachable of course. A very, very nice wristrest by the way.

It has 1000hz polling rate and some people don't recommend it - currently I'm clueless as to why, since it does not affect anything in any negative way for me so far, so if anything it's been positive. Though I must say that even though 1000hz is 'good' in regards to how the numbers look, it's not at all necessary with anything above 125hz. It's different when it comes to mice, but for keyboards it's not a big deal.

There is only two gripes I have with this keyboard, which is about the only ones for me. The cord, even though it's pretty thick and sturdy, is not that long. For me this could prove to be a problem when I move to my new apartment as I intend to lengthen the distance between computer and desk. Best thing I can think of is getting an adapter to make it longer, if I really desperately need to do this, but is something I shouldn't have to worry about. Usually a keyboard cord extends pretty darn far - or at least the ones I've had until now did).

Second gripe is my backspace button. Seeing as this is more of a gaming keyboard than a writers keyboard, it is to be expected that it is not as comfortable to write with as other keyboards, at least not in the beginning, so I'm bearing this in mind. But the backspace button has this friction'y sound that resembles that of nails on a blackboard, if you really sit and listen to it. Though I'm told by two of my buddies that own the keyboard as well, that they do not experience this.

But thats really it. I'm thoroughly enjoying the keyboard and quite honestly, the only reason I'd ever switch it, is if it got smashed up good by something extremely heavy dropping onto it. I would switch it out if I knew of a much better keyboard, but thus far I'm more than satisfied with this.

Im hating it for the right shift position, but that's just a matter of adaption, the keyboard is fairly decent if you're looking for non-tenkeyless, but compact keyboard

same also switched mine to colemak recently.

I’ve looked that one up and it seems good for me. The main problem here is obviously finding a keyboard, that fits my ideas of a perfect one, but recently it put out to be very difficult to purchase just any one with the correct layout, but without insane shipping costs (50 – 60 $).
So, available keyboards are Steelseries 6gv2, Qpad MK-50, Zowie Celeritas and Tt Esports Meka G1. I’ll definitely keep the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid Red in the back of my mind, if it isn’t available to me soon enough, I’ll probably get the Mega G1.
I hope the Cherry MX Black switches won’t be too fatiguing, as I already am tired of stuff like heavy mice.

I appreciate the shorter travel of the keys, but hate typing or gaming on flat keyboards like that, I just can’t stand the feel and in addition to that mostly the keycaps discolor quickly. With wireless keyboards there is also most often a certain lag and the need to change batteries.
