Good idea. I know alot of people will reply with "Why don't we just go back to vq3 if we're going to use it's settings anyway" Quakelive is unique. Joining games via clicking a link, running via serverbrowser so no one needs to buy it. You can log on any pc (handy) plus countless number of things to add that I cba thinking of :p

Yeah, except q3 is pretty much free anyways and ql runs much worse on the same machine.

Let's not even get into how bad the serverbrowser is without an additional greasemonkey script.

btw, QL single handedly killed the Israeli quake community and im sure that goes the same for many other places.

Check #Edawn out. it also supports QL gameplay, is free and has better net codeing.

Here is the post Sync made a while ago about the RL changes in QL. As far as I know everything in that post is still accurate.

Damage wise, rockets are quite a bit weaker than they were in Q3, doing a maximum of 84 damage from splash as opposed to a max of 99 splash damage in Q3. That's almost as big as the difference in rail damage.

Both RL and rail are to weak IMO. It's another factor that contributes to low scoring games.

The max rocket splash damage should be increased from 84 to at least 94. I would also increase the rail damage to 90. Both of these changes would help make the game more exciting, especially on faster maps such as aero.

RL speed would be fine if the splash radius would be decreased (a lot), the rocket splash damage doesnt really matter, its more about the knockback when it hits you from 10metres away.. I'd like the RL to be fast but only hit if you're accurate. Either that or much slower rockets, maybe 850ups and same splash as now. Anyway, rl is definitely overpowered and weird atm

Rail is like shock rifle or some shit now, should be 100 damage and 2000ms reload instead, so that it feels like it packs a punch but often punishing to use it like it was meant to be

I'd rather it be: clean pickup; pickup with minor splash; pickup and hit by rail; pickup and hit by direct rocket; and enemy pickups etc.

I disagree, rail and lg can be easily abused, making it equal to rocket.

What I will agree with is that certain players have difficulty playing against some people with good defensive rockets.

Even with the latest increase, the hitbox is STILL smaller than the hitbox in vq3.

Also, the rail speed is still the same as vq3. (i.e. 1500ms) They have only lowered the damage.

Therefore, you have no idea what you are talking about, and honestly you should not be deciding to make any changes with regards to the weapons.

I'm sorry but I am just being honest, if you don't know the correct values and you are going by how it "feels" I must disagree with you, and really don't think you should be suggesting any changes.

With regards to the changes you have been correct about such as the rocket launcher and shotgun, my thoughts are this:

- Rocket launcher is fine and fair and equal to the other weapons. And I am saying this being a strong rail and lg user. VQ3 settings are a joke, you shouldn't be able to kill a guy in half a second if he has no armor. Or alternatively, I should not be able to defend an item with nothing but an lg. I believe the current settings are fine, but I will be happy to go back to previous settings as I will get a huge "skill increase".

- Shotgun is still useful in specialized areas, i.e. finishing off and extreme close range. I was mainly a duel player, and these were the only areas that I would use the gun in. In CA I hardly ever use the shotgun. I would hardly use it in CTF. In TDM (for which the changes were made) I am pretty good, but I'm not really a dedicated player, I would prefer to defer judgement to people who actually play the game mode more than me, and it appears that they are happy with the current changes. That said the changes don't bother me as I only use it close range anyway, the mg bothers me more.

Regarding the hitboxes. Well. This has been discussed on the website before, with pictures, but I won't be able to find it now. I believe that at some angles, the hitbox was like 30% larger than the model.

But generally, I remember hitting stupid accs with the original hitbox's, and my acc going down with the first changes, and my acc going up very slightly with the latest changes.

if you weaken rockets, shaft becomes too strong etc. sure, decrease the rocket splash by 10% maybe but that is about it. stop talking about 2000ms rail reload time. this is not cs.

+1 also decreas just a little bit rocket splash radius would make the game more challenging and less +back spam.

I don't understand how 2000ms rail reload would turn it into CS? It actually has the opposite effect cos using rail would be much more risky as you can't change weapon or fire again until its done reloading, rewarding players using more "+forward-type" weapons like shaft and rocket. What it really does is make you think about when to use the rail, rather than just abusing its instant-hit 85 damage at any range. It makes it the situational weapon (long range) again like it used to be and imo how it should be.

edit; tbh a faster fire rate on shaft so that ammo decreases faster and u have to be more accurate for a short period of time would be better imo. With a 1500ms rail i would like it to have some delay like the q2 rail so that it has some prediction skill, and rockets fast and small like cpm :) My opinion isn't worth that much though as I pretty much hate everything about QL, particularly the unlagged netcode.

rail is a hitscan, is has no timing, from the barrel origin the range end position is traced, the path effect is played and the line material in the effect file uses "end origin position"

Well, on first take a comment can come across as an insult, but in hindsight looking at it again and again I guess it can pass as noninsult so I censored. But, the rockets are still flying in flight too fucking fast and takes the fucking fun right the fuck out of the game. Noone ever or nearly is out of ammo so the rockets are just too fucking fast. So going to vq3 rockets would be nice--and have more dmg but yet more prediction needed hahah. But yeah, it won't happen, because id doesn't really give a shit. And I don't either really, the shotgun did not need nerfing and the fact they ignored the rocketlauncher flightspeed just makes me laugh.
