The 2 LED's and the wire are 3-4 grams, if that. Wont notice it in the long run anyway.

The curve of the mouse is so elegant at all. When I touch it, it is freaking soft and comfortable. You know what, it looks so hard and tough, but once you touch it, you will feel amaze and unbelievable with it. Looks nothing like a g500 aside from the paint job being matte on top. g500 has a metallic luster where the DABE is just black. It's funny how it took a limited edition model only in order to get enough people to tell Razer the same thing I've been saying all along...

Besides the jitter bug that some DA 3.5G's still experience for whatever odd reason, the s3888 is nearly identical to the original s3668.

Personally, I didn't notice any bugs on v2.41 firmware. I was more concerned with the glossy sides.

-Both the S3888 and S3668 share the same perfect control and malfunction rates. The sensor was designed off the ADNS-2020 back in 2005/2006.
-Both use the same CPI setup system in intervals of 90.
-The Newly release Avago ADNS-3090 is basically a rebranded S3888 with 2 default CPI settings (1800 and 3500). Do you honestly think Avago would release a faulty sensor based off the same design?

I'll admit that the 3.5G has a bunch of weird problems, but if you look at the 3G's release, it was kinda the same situation.

What I know:

-Some people still have defective 3.5G's that still jitter for some odd reason. This is after updating the firmware.
- The DA's I've used don't have this problem and function perfectly without a hitch. (V2.41 firmware)
-I will not accept a defective sensor if the Black Edition I ordered doesn't work properly.

Personally I never cared much about perfect control and malfunction rates, most people will never reach those with _most_ decent modern mouse.

I played back and fort for two weeks with the 3.5 and 3g. Basically I played one map and then swapped mice. The 3.5 just doesnt give the same amount of control.

And as for the question if I think avago, honestly, would release a sensor that they like, but may or may not (depending on firmware) think is good, well, I guess thats a rethorical question.

I also see the black edition has it´s own driver. Maybe it works perfeclty now. I really doubt it will ever be as good as the 1800 dpi mouse though, hence my wish for a frankenmouse.

You know, there was some buzz in the media, I guess it was around 10 years ago now about how many hz people could see (this was back when crt´s was pretty much the only thing used for gaming). And some scientists claimed that humans couldnt percieve hz above 75 (or maybe it was 85). Well I tried that and I could see the difference up to 120 (my monitors max at my chosen res). So nowadays when someone says 'it´s like this' I try it, and as you know, you like me, might or might not prefer empirical data.

Considering that it has it's own drivers and the release of the 3090 a few weeks ago, I'm willing to open one of these up as long as razer's design is still defective and requires a 2nd set of feet to prevent the body from scraping the pad.

He, yea a 3090 sensor in there might be nice. Unfortunately I think the odds are against it. First cause it doesnt have 3400 or 3600 has according to spec (iirc) and cause the black edition has been around for a month or so already. But ofc, the black edition driver would contradict it being a regular 3500 3.5g sensor.

Considering it's a super cool "black edition" it's probably just different graphics on the driver interface.....

This mouse isn't light just because they did not use Led logo and glowing scroll wheel.
They did not included in this version because black scroll wheel wouldn't glow well?? :D
So they decided to make new drivers without option of scroll wheel and logo on and off and they added rubber side grip which everyone wants.

I would still be too if my sensor hadn't died on me (or the replacements have jitter). Twas the best shape, weight, size and grip for me all around.

rubber grips sound nice but the shape still kills me =(. this sensor + mamba-like base/sides would be nicer imo.

On the mamba, there are indents that make it easier to lift and grip. well, for me anyway. i have small hands =(.

I'm still curious how the rubber sides/top texture of the new DA will feel in my hands though. looks interesting.

The DA is my favorite mouse. Perfect size and shape. I wonder if the sensor is the exact same or if they've fixed the jitter problems? My 3.5g has the latest firmware and it still jitters occasionally on black cloth.

And I wonder if the rubber sides changed the size and weight? i.e. did they layer the rubber over the original dimensions thereby adding some millimeters and does it weigh more?

I'm not able to comment about the weight, but at least you do not have a 1600 DPI version, but a 1800 DPI one.

If so, then no.
The diff. revisions of the DA, aren't compatible anymore too, so u can't just change parts from one rev. to the other.
So i guess they just found a way to produce it even cheaper.

I have..4 or so, I bought 1 at retail, tw guidlwards edition from a amazon.de shop (bit-something) and .. cant remember where I got the last one from.

just to be clear, it shows two 1800dpi DA's, and no Black edition, but still u cant just change the board, from one to another. (rev.3 has soldered board with the buttons, whereas the old rev.2 has a cable u can unplug, and the board where the buttons sit, doesn't fit in the other shell).
So if u have a later revision of the 3G DA (1800dpi rev.3), it is more likely the board will fit in the DA BE shell, but i wouldn't bet on it.

if u still have the box, then u can read somewhere RZ01-00150100-R3M1.
That would be a newer rev.
If u bought the mice after the mid of 2009, then u most likely have a new rev.
Also the LED of the new version have more green in it, and the old ones have more purple in the actually blue color.

After playing with the 1800 dpi DAr for 2 years the 3500 dpi DA feels different im sure its heavier it feels it when i lift the mouse

just hope the rubber on the black edition and the the no leds make it lighter

But they could safe much weight, when they don't shape the shell, like they did where the back LED sits.

I just got my DA black today, and it most definitely DOES have the 450 DPI setting. So any fears about it not having it are unwarranted.

I am sort of curious, though:
Why does the DA black have its own driver, if it uses the same sensor as the 3.5G regular?

In fact, the 1800 DPI and 3500 DPI use the same driver; the driver just detects what version is installed (but on some motherboards, --someone else posted about this problem, except it was permanent for them--it can bug out and detects N/A on 1800 DA's, and gives the 3500 setting, and the option changes don't work right, until you unplug and replug. Happened in XP randomly after polling rate changes on my 975X P5wdh board, but NOT on my P67 UD5 board at all).

Also, the 3500 firmware updater detects the black DA firmware as 0.00. Drivers say 1.00. Just wanted to see if the firmware was actually hardware identical (meaning if you wanted to, you could probably flash a DA black with a 3500 version? who knows...)

Really like the sides of the mouse. The shell seems to have a slightly different coating as well. Liftoff distance is just over 2 cd's on the Mantis speed-same as my 1800DPI DA, and 1 CD (won't track at 2) on the Exactmat, same as my 1800 one. It has over 3 CD liftoff on the Mantis control, though (the 1800 DA won't track at 3 CD's...)

BTW don't like 3500 DPI at all. Doesn't feel or look smooth, especially on cloth. 1800 DPI is fine.

Maybe later I'll see if the guts can be swapped with an 1800 version...

Yes it's just slightly heavier than the 1800 version. Not like it's noticable unless you're looking for it. Seems like it's the different shell; hard to tell without opening it up...

The 3.5 g DA has lights, that can be turned off and on within the driver.

DA Black has no lights atall, thus the driver must not have light settings, hence the diffeerent driver for it

Well I put the 1800 dpi sensor from my Deathadder Mac in now and it works well. I tested the 3500 dpi sensor that came with it but it just doesnt feel good. I got the Goliathus Control.
Except for the obvious (having the best sensor in the best shell) I NEVER have to disable light in drivers again.

Yea I just swapped the innards, no need to solder anything. Sorry no pics, seems one of the xscrews got busted (what do you call it when the x for the screwdriver is dissolved?). Too bad I didnt even twist it hard.

if anyone is interested i returned my DA Black because i couldn't grip it as well as a normal DA. The rubber is slippy rubber, try using it after a shower... slip slip slip. Bought a standard Deathadder Respawn and i'm happy.

In my testing the best grip that exists for any mouse is the logitech drygrip.
But you need to use the mouse for 2-3 months for the grip to really start to perform. Because when new it doesnt offer comfortable grip.

That aged grip is excellent when you have dry hands or when you have sweaty hands.

Beats razers shiny plastic and rubber coating by miles. Sadly logitech cant make a good non gimmicky gaming mouse for claw grippers.

Well i dont know about that, but if you want to stick something onto the mouse for grip there's a simpler and cheaper solution..

Get a tennis raquet overgrip. You can get like 3 in a pack for 3-4 bucks. That should easily last you a year or more.

Cut it out and stick it to the mouse using normal paper stick glue. Its great grip, absorbs sweat, doesnt wear out too fast and is rly cheap.

ive read elsewhere, that it gets very sticky, and that u cant change the position easily on the mouse while playing.

Grips differ. Since i play tennis i have a very certain HEAD grip that i use and its perfect for mice

Imho its very smooth when you have perfectly dry hands as soon as there is some perspiration though its perfect. Definately not too sticky. Also I think there is still some of the 'dust' left on it that all my previews DA´s had when they were new so I guess that affects it too.

had my Deathadder black edition now for a week. when i first started using it i couldnt grip it at all the Black rubber sides are not really rubber like a IE3 there shiny smooth ruber like they uses on a top of the original DA

Yea same here. Also I find it helps when your hands are a little bit moist.

Yeah. The sides seem to work best when your hands aren't in pristine dry condition (like, right after a shower). Once your hands get a little oil on them naturally, it's fine.

The problem with the ORIGINAL DA sides is not the grip directly, rather its the grime buildup (oil, skin cells, etc) that build up. The shiny side DA grip is perfect if the mouse is cleaned and your hands are perfectly dry. The mouse virtually sticks to your hand. But the grime starts building up fast as your hands sweat, and soon the grip gets horrible. This doesn't happen wtih the DA Black.

Already have the original as well as the 3G. I've loved the shape of the mouse for years now, so I guess this is gonna be the next mouse I replace the 3G with if and when it breaks. Love the minimalistic look of this one!

Jittering issue was fixed by firmware upgrade in both Black adition and respawn, right?
