I've had a mx518 for a long time but got annoyed by the prediction.

I switched to the g500, but I noticed it had some nasty negative accel on my qck heavy. It seems to work fine on all hard surfaces but not on cloth.

But I always played low sens (40-50cm/360) so fell in love with cloth mouse pads and now I dont want to use anything other then cloth.

I triend using a higher sens (still prety low though), but I still get this negative accel now and then wich I find extremely anoying.

If it wasn't for this problem the g500 would be the closest to the perfect mouse for me cause I love the shape and sensor position.

Is there any cloth mousepad that works well for g500? And does the color of the mousepad matter?

With the way in which newer sensors track movement color doesn't really have much significance.

I don't have a g500 but I'd wager the Artisan HIEN KAI.g3 works great with it.

Try the Allsop XL Raindrop, it's a bit better then the Qck Heavy with these laser mice.

I'm currently using 36cm/360 withought any accel and im making 270 degree turns (or even more) all the time while im just moving around the map in quake. I do this because it gives me a nice feeling of control over my mouse. These huge swipes fail every now and then when im doing them to fast.

So hearing a pad is good when tested with a higher sens then my own doesn't convince me I won't have any problems with it. Still thanks alot for all the comments so far.

I read some good things about the Allsop XL Raindrop, but as I said im not yet convinced.

I'm starting to think I just have to buy a hard pad, but are there any that even come close to the size of a qck heavy?

I have tried two G500's and a Xai. As you know they have the same sensor and from my testing they all suck on a cloth pad in terms of hitting negative acceleration at pretty low speeds. On a hard plastic pad I couldn't get any of the mice to hit negative acceleration.

If it helps, the golathus speed seemed to perform the best out of my other pads (Qck,Talent,CM AK47). I still hit negative acceleration with the goliathus speed but it allowed for a slightly faster swipe before doing so.

I loved the control of cloth and refused to use a hard pad to just because of a defective sensor but I eventually just stuck with a hard plastic pad while I wait for a new mouse. The CM Storm spawn looks promising.

Isn't the CM spawn released yet? I read it had the same sensor as the mx518 but it seems the mx518 has a Avago ADNS-S3080(E) and the spawn has a Avago ADNS-3090 [5].

Any idea what the perfect control speed is?

I haven't found the spawn for sale anywhere in the US yet. Judging by the rumors it sounds like the perfect mouse for me. In the spawn thread the weight is rumored to be 86g and the liftoff distance was claimed to be around 1mm, both awesome numbers. If it has no acceleration problems and has a good perfect control speed then it's definitely a winner in my book.

what are 'pretty low speeds' to you in terms of m/s? i keep seeing these threads about the avago laser sensor and clothpads but i've yet to run into a single problem myself.

Low enough to actually feel it during normal gameplay. I have no way of accurately measuring the actual speed but a very rough guess would be slightly under 2 m/s. The reason I pull that number out of my ass is because I never had a problem with negative acceleration with my 1600DPI MX518 which scored a perfect control speed of around 2 m/s in Sujoy's test. I could force the MX518 to show some negative accel by swiping pretty quickly but I never reached those speeds while playing so I was happy with it in terms of its perfect control speed.

there's a freeware 'mouse movement recorder' (forgot the actual name) that records the speeds in m/s. thing is, i stay below 0.6 when aiming and i hit 0.7 with a swipe. i don't think i'm such a minority in that regard tbh.

hmm.. by playing Quake and ET like I'm used to I'm getting 0.91 m/s

by doing some fast 180s in Quake I got to 1.30 m/s

the Razer Copperheard is reported to hit its malfunction speed at 0.85 m/s - I never had any problems with it.
