There is a private pickup that sees a lot of TDM activity. But as you're new it's pretty unlikely you'll get an invite.

I am already in the pickup channel you're talking about. There is even another secret pickup channel dedicated to TDM which is full of people who never play.

The current pickup divide works fine IMO. There's #qlpickup.eu for the newbies and the priv one for everyone else. No need to fragment it further with a TDM-only pickup (which evidently doesn't work and is inactive).

EDIT: There has only been one game played in the priv TDM pickup and it was a 2v2. It's a waste of time setting up even more channels.

They don't play TDM in #qlpickup.eu - as the OP has said already it's 99.98% CTF. They're welcome to play TDM in there but they don't seem to want to. There's nothing from stopping players joining #qlpickup.eu, improving their game then asking to join the private channel. If anything it would be welcomed.

But I don't think starting them off against the div 1 pros will be of any benefit to them. The newbies will get owned, the more seasoned players will get fucked off with uneven teams and it'll just make everyone unhappy.

Just make it clear that it's for high level players.

It's private because it's the easiest way to control who plays tbh. If there was an easier way the admins would probably do that.

I don't believe the segregation is as divisive as you make it to be nor as ruinous. We're talking about two pickup channels that make up a small proportion of people playing Quake Live.

As I said previously, it might even be beneficial to keep them separate.

If that angers you, if you resent me, I completely respect that. But you can't force people to play together if they don't want to.

This is my thoughts exactly, as a newcomer, how am I ever supposed to get into TDM? Really, the response you get from the community and all, if I hadn't had a friend helping me I would've been long gone by now.

There's no way to learn, and there's no way to prove yourself.

I haven't really used irc for pickups much (Well, I have for CS - yeah, yeah I know), but for CS, pickups tend to go by skill (IE: ultralow, low, mid, mid+, high, PCW) so does QL have the same pickup tier system or is it "ohwtfbbqimgettingowned" because as much as I'm good on a pub server (tier 5 in QL - el oh el), it's like saying "well I can cook an egg, so I'm sure I can run a restaurant"

What I'm getting at, is if I have absolutely no experience in pickup CTF, am I just gonna get abuse if I join one? :D

how about starting a new ql pickup channel exclusiv for tdm? I would like some decent tdm pickups... public tdm is so much like ffa and fair teams are so rarely. No shuffle makes it even worse!

Hardly anyone plays TDM anyway. I've been playing TDM for nearly a decade and now switched over to CTF because it seems there is more stuff going on at the moment. I enjoy it. Plus, we really do lack TDM maps.

dont get me wrong but i love c7 and c8 :) maybe even better if they were 5v5
