Faceit has been getting more success with CSGO, back then they had their glory with Quake but in the end it didnt do them any good.

Hey guys, I know I'm late to the party but thanks for the post and that you're still supporting us!

We're really hyped about the new league and the growth we've been making over the last year, and a lot comes from the experience we gained in Quake.

Obviously Quake is still in our hearts as it's where a few of us have their roots (stermy and me read ESR almost every day), but unfortunately there need to be new ways to properly integrate the game on our platform. I hope it can be found in the future, but I don't want to make promises.

And indeed, we share our office with Twitch in London!

What do you mean by properly integrate? I know you said FACEIT can't work with QL after the Steam release but how come other sites like qlranks can? Can you explain how exactly is CS:GO integrated with FACEIT platform? I don't play CS:GO so I'm curious.

It's also not out of the realm of possibility that post-steam update, QL requires further integration with the FACE IT website platform, which would mean they'd require further clientside development BEFORE they'd start heamorrhaging ££/$$ by covering QL...

It is possible. But it's highly unlikely since they refuse to provide the answer about what exactly can not be integrated. Fetching match data and stats is not exactly coding a kernel. Qlranks does it without problems

I get the feeling that if you suggested some improvements as to how the game could be better integrated within your platform, then there would be a higher chance of said improvements being implemented. With quake being as stagnant coverage-wise as it is, and with faceit being as big/growing as much as it is, I doubt any reasonable person in charge would shoot down your requests as it's in quake's best interest to have some more support coming along for it, even if that means they (the developers) need to put in some work too.

That said, part of me also thinks that the faceit team (not you personally, just on the whole) simply doesn't care enough about the game anymore and that this is some kind of diplomatic post designed to settle any potential bad blood between the quake community and faceit so that they're not potentially segregating a portion of their future playerbase by completely shutting down any hope that coverage may ever return to the game again, whilst also simultaneously not committing to doing anything positive either.

Personally I see faceit as a business, and if a business wants to be as successful as it can be (talking in a general sense here, not just gaming), it needs to offer something to people who in turn want it. Since there is a (let's be honest, significantly) larger market for games such as CSGO atm, I don't and will never blame you or faceit for discontinuing your coverage/support of quake, even if that really does mean that it's never coming back.

But some transparency would be great (even if it's something you're not sure we want to hear), and earn you more respect than getting people's hopes up for nothing, at least in my opinion. If you really are interested in supporting quake in any way again, that's awesome, but you should probably make the requirements you have known so people can go about fulfilling them first, otherwise nothing's ever gonna happen. Or just put the issue to bed once and for all and say "sorry, we've moved on" or sth.

I doubt they have interest in doing QL atm, yet they want to leave the door open for 'em for when/if new quake game gains traction. It's as simple as that

I'll reply to this one and also cover some of the previous comments made.

First of all, we have always given the Quake Live devs feedback regarding anything that concerns both us and their devs. It's up to them what they do with it though.

Regarding to why the integration doesn't work, I'm no expert in this so I won't go too deep into it. I can check with our devs on Monday, if they have a few spare minutes.

I don't know what the future holds for FACEIT yet. We're a startup and we're in such a quickly developing environment now, that everything is possible. This is why I don't want to exclude a return to Quake. I don't think we'll be hosting weekly Quake Live Sunday Cups again, at least not in the near future, as I think 125FPS has done a great job filling the void of weekly and daily content, and we simply don't have enough casters and studio space to cover it at this point.

Short version.

Quake is dead.
We didn't gain any popularity as a tournament streaming company until we covered games people actually play.
If we had kept covering quake we would be poor as shit since only a handful of people have any interest in the game. Did you see the effect Quake Live was having on Stermys hair?

By integration we mean simply turning game on.

FACEIT, Quake Live is shit.

This is my understanding of the issues with QL.

QL does not provide the interface to allow integrating the faceit platform to the extent where players would use it outside of cups (read sunday cup). Such features would include thing like allowing the platform to spawn servers with on the fly setting, auto connect players to it, gather information about the game at different moments during the match etc. This is me thinking for 2 minutes; I'm pretty sure faceit dev's could add to this a number of limitations to interacting with the game, and all nice things that would come without those.

As a result, faceit platform cannot provide the level of experience to quake players that would make them use the platform regularly, which in the end is what is gonna pay the bills.

These issues have been discussed many times and it seems like an agreement with id software was not possible, which is really sad.

At one point things were mature enough for face it leap to CS, which appear to have the proper interface. I would not be surprised to hear valve has been collaborative.

I don't know how steam complicated things, but I guess it did not solve the existing issues, and if it added difficulties, they stacked on a pretty high pile.

So, if there was a way to have all quake live players use faceit platform when they play, and get a better experience thanks to it, I'm pretty sure we would also have cups on Faceit tv. Faceit loves quake, but the current situation with QL is not worth their effort, especially when they are growing to large markets.

This. People here don't get faceit is much more than a cup hosted every sunday.
