by both definitions pavel is a pro - he has won the cup (not an ordinary player) and earned money by doing so.

Think about your definition: "living from that activity" So one's compensation from competing should be somewhat commensurate with one's standard of living, right? Well take this example: an NFL football player who basically sits on the bench, a 4th stringer who makes maybe around $80-$90k/yr. What if his standard of living includes weekend gambling, drinking, maybe even coke? What if THAT is his standard of living? According to your definition, he can't "live on that." He would even say, "Man I gotta work another job on the side just to keep up my lifestyle"

So it seems your definition depends on a rather arbitrary dollar sum associated with "living from that activity," emphasis on living. The necessary condition though is actually making ANY money from competition. There are pros who can't live off what they make; however, there are NO pros who don't make ANY money. Why is this so hard to get?

Given the amount of cheaters there are, online cups like zotac don't make you a pro.

As far as I'm concerned, agent, pavel, amai, none of them are pros.

They may have attended the odd LAN here and there, but they have been mostly irrelevant participants.

So he's definitely NOT a top pro for sure, but who's left? DH ql duel tourney wasn't some kind of Fatality shootout for amateurs to take a chance with active pros.
